Its competition time again. Anyone whos been around for the other competitions will know the prize will be worth it.

    Brief description.
Since the advent of google and other search technologies the ability to find stuff on the net is fairly easy. This is kind of a treasure hunt. Everything you need to find is on the net, but I have made it far from made it easy.

    *** IMPORTANT ****
Please ensure you read the rules and understand them because if you mess up you may loose or be disqualified.

    RULES
    1. Rules are subject to change without notice. My ruling is final in the event of disputes.

    2. You must have a valid boards account to enter. If you are banned your disqualified. Anyone who is not directly related to me is allowed enter.

    3. Only one person will win (even if you use a team to solve it).

    4. The hunt is six clues. You need to unlock each clue before you can move onto the next clue. Each clue will be a sequence of words. Each clue will get progressively harder.

    5. When you believe you have unlocked the clue you have the following options to get a score. (Note: You can guess as many times as you like)
    Declare it publically
(on this thread). If you are correct you get 2 points and the next clue is shown to everyone. If you get it wrong you loose no points from your current score.

    Declare it privately.
You post on this thread that you have PM'ed me. The time will be based on the post on the thread, not the PM. YOU MUST Send the PM first. In the case of disputes where the PM was sent second it will be dismissed.

If you get it right you get 1 point + the next clue. If you get it wrong you get -1 point. After three people get it right or three days pass from the first correct PM the next clue is made public.

    6. The first person to solve the last clue gets a bonus point (as I believe it is insanely hard) :D .

    7. The person with the most points win. So its a game of tactics as well trying to solve the clues.

    8. Once you have access to the clue you are free to give that clue to whoever you want, or post it on this thread. Posting fake clues on this thread will get you disqualified.

    9. If you edit any post on this thread it is disqualified from the competition (so you can loose points). If you made a mistake just post again rather then edit. This is important!

    10. If the clue is not being progressed after a few days then hints will be given. No timeframes as to when these hints will appear. You are free to post hints, etc on this thread to see if someone else may tip your hand to the clues.

    11. Remember each clue requires some investigation on the net, so don't assume that the clue can be solved on its own.

    Gerrycollins = -1
    jhegarty = -1

At this point the final question is worth three points. In the event there is no clear winner it will be based on who made it to the highest points first.

It just requires a bit of lateral thinking. This is the most easy clue which means the answer is closer then you think.

Just to add to it.. this early in the game it may help if you confer with people.

I should point out if you think you have guessed correctly you should post the results you got, otherwise someone else can get there before you.

You don't get minus points if you post it publically, only if you PM me the answer and its wrong.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 60,110 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tar.Aldarion

If you get it wrong you get 0 points.
So we can only guess once?

erk. I will reword it. You can keep guessing publically without any loss to your score. The loss of score for PM'ing is partly to stop people spamming me and also that it gives people a headstart.

is it just a random sequence of words or is it supposed to make a sentence?

For all clues it will always be a random sequence of words.

so its impossible to know if im on the right track as the answer wont become clear as i progress?

Well you have two options. If you think you have the right answer you can post it publically without risk of loosing score. If your right the next clue opens up to everyone (you still get +1). You are free to guess as many times as you like, but I recommend you ensure that your guess follows the pattern of the clue.

Its only if your confident with the answer you can PM me.

Tried four or five things in notepad, didn't work. Maybe it will with the right method.

if its random then how can there be a pattern?
i cant be confident of an answer, again, as its random

there is about 50 ways to assign the numbers just off the top of my head and i dont really want to post over and over with different ideas.

He said you need the net to do this, so frequency analysis probably isn't going to work.

    -1 score for Goodshape.

It will be a sequence of words people, I have already given some hints and at least 2 users are on the right track.

And to repeat again, all clues require looking on the net. They are not solvable on thier own.

    ARS

The agricultural research service seem to be coming up with most of these numbers, with sensing laboratories in countries using these figures such as france and cambodia etc.

Maybe a sequence of 6 countries including france, cambodia etc.
