ive seen the paper, he's there

ok, i didnt see it. but he's gonna be there. only an absolute idiot would predict he won't come up.

    here's the deal:
-he hasnt been on in 6 years or something stupid like that.
-he's not on until 2011 after this year.

    conclusion:
they won't put a poet on a course and not give a question on him

end of discussion on poetry in english. now go away and learn hardy.

    C'mon Hopkins :D

Why does everyone hate Hopkins What'd the guy ever do to ye :o

My final decsion - I'm learning

    Hopkins :D
    Bishiop :)
    Hardy

If they don't come up then they can feck off I'll be in denial and write an essay on hopkins and just scratch out the other poet

Stupid Hardy, worst poet on the course. Except Bishop, who is a disaster. And maybe Longley, who just annoys me, the beardy bastard. Yet those three look certain to come up. Hopefully a bit of Donne will ease the pain.

  • i'm doing

Hardy - Cause i can write on him, and he's bound to come up.
Plath - Cause i love her poetry, and could easily write 5/6 pages on her (she's not coming up though :()

Donne - Meh... I can answer on him...
Longley - Love Ceasefire, and can mould other answers to that.
    Eliot - Meh..

But Hardy and Plath are the ones i'm doing most

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭OctavarIan

I hope he does come up cos I've learnt (learned? oh fúck!) his stuff the best.

[edit]I'm talking about Hardy, of course.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 301 ✭✭MB44

Bishop = the biggest b*tch who wrote poetry. all she talks about is fish. avoid her like the plague. i couldnt write a half page on her. Now donne better come up or hardy but i ned a good essay on hardy.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 887 ✭✭✭Rockerette

All she talks about it fish?!?!

seriosuly guys, do some of you just not UNDERSTAND poetry???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,252 ✭✭✭Funkstard

Elizabeth Bishop is probably my fav. poet on the course, and The Fish my favourite poem! I know it's not what she intended...but I can't help but feel soo sorry for it! When I read it I was like....she better not ****in kill the fish, and then she didn't so it was all good

i myself have just focused on hardy. i'll run over bishop tomorrow night (just to make sure she's dead :p )

hardy all the way. 100% banker. dont waste your time on anything else.

Ok so which year did he come up so i can see a question on him?
Im just gonna abandon Eliot and do Hardy now even though I didn't do anything on him all year, Im just gonna look at three of his poems:
    Drummer Hodge
    When I set Out
    Convergance of the Twain

    should that be alright?

I know right?Bishop is a fantastic poet imo,and a lot easier to write on then Hardy.

Learnt Bishop,Plath,Longley and Yeats because I hate Hardy and his grim little poetry with a vengence.

No-you need to write on 6 poems during the essay.Write a few paragraphs on 4 of them(and you can't pick all of the ordinary level poems either)and refer to two other ones somewhere duringthe essay.

Writing on 3 will leave you with a pretty large disadvantage.

In my mock i did an essay on longley and only mentioned two poems got 35/50, but i dunno...

Yeah i just realised there are no questions on Hardy, has anyone got a sample question on Hardy?? Just so I can see what they could ask?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,460 ✭✭✭Orizio

Oddly enough the other English teacher in the school seemed to think that writing on three only was alright.

However I regard him as a bit of a tit so 4 analysed and 2 briefly it is. :D

Usually 4 is good and a reference somewhere along the way to another. A lad in the class only did three though and got the highest in the mocks, though...

Also, be sure and say somewhere along the way "my personal fave poem is..." Examiners love it ;)

when I open the exam on Wednesday afternoon, the first thing im gonna do is check the poets.. purely too see if Smemon was wrong.

oooh that'd be great wouldnt it?! :D

I'm not a religious man in anyway whatsoever-not since that priest told me off for flirting with a girl whilst standing at the back of the church-however I'm going to say a million hail mary's on tuesday night just to make sure that chauvinstic sob Hardy doesn't come up.

And when he doesn't come up,I'm going to come back on this thread and laugh my ass off.:D

you know i'm right ;) im the master tactician, i wouldnt back hardy if their was a chance he wouldnt come up. i've studied the past papers, studied the future course poets and Hardy is odds on favourite to come up.

he was on the pre's in some shape or form, couldnt be bothered searching for the papers now. if you want to cut corners and have a no-nonsense approach like me, you'll learn hardy above anyone else as he's a dead cert.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,736 ✭✭✭OctavarIan

    Merde!

Don't start praying for Hardy to not come up! Some of us actually studied him (along with other poets of course) and would benefit from his appearance!

I'm glad I'm not the only one banking on Hardy coming up. How many pages/words should I be aiming to write in the exam? As for Bishop, she can stay sleeping with the fishes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

he was on my mocks anyway. ironically i didnt answer on him :D

you'll be asked the same stuff you get asked on all poets. something like:

"Thomas Hardy is great and his poetry is lovely, discuss..."

LOL, I would seriously fall over laughing in the exam if that came up!

Any question on the new course is just a personal response. That's all the examiners want to see - your response to the poetry. The questions never deviate from 'personal response' 'imagine you are giving a talk...which poems would you choose and why', 'write a letter to him/her telling him/her why you like his poetry'....all comes back to the same thing: what you think.

That's why there has to be 'I', 'I found that..' 'In my opinion' etc..literally all over the place.

That's my take on it anyway

i think its a definate. put it this way - if i had nothing learned and had to cram 1 poet, id cram hardy.

I don't think it's worth anyone's while assuming that Hardy is definitely coming up. That is far too risky. The fact that he hasn't come up in years doesn't mean anything...
Not discrediting the heads up or anything but just don't study ONLY Hardy.
(perhaps I am saying this because I'm not doing him... -_- - I'm doing Plath, Bishop and Longley!)

I'd an odd dream last night that people opened English Paper 2 and a big cheer went up from everyone ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 887 ✭✭✭Rockerette

hehe at the end of the day, it's only 50 marks.. if you can make up something about a poet, even if you havent revised him, just write about what you remember, you should at least get 1/2 the marks i think...

so im not too fussed, i know what each of the poets are on about most of the time, so raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaambling on should work wonders if i dont like the questions on the poets i know really well

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,467 ✭✭✭smemon

lads and ladeez, as soon as you get paper 2 and open it and you see Hardy there, just think of me - i'll have a smug grin on my face with my collar up and my chest puffed out :D

in your head, you'll hear me say - "i told you so" :)
