Films that were THAT bad

Okay, I thought this would be a smart little tie-in with the other thread. If people don't think so, feel free to delete this thread.

Anyways, which movies did people there were actually that bad.

For me, one has to be Gigli.. yes.. that movie. I watched the first 30 minutes of it and I had to stop it was so awful. The acting was horrible. The story was pointless and everything about this movie just plain sucked!

Catwoman is also really THAT bad.

Some of the most annoying editing you'll ever see in a film... but not annoying enough to distract you from the terrible script and acting.

Another one has to be Time Machine with Samantha Mumba and Guy Pearce.

What was that lad doing, seriously? There has never been a good film version of this book and going near it was just stupid. It was such a modern hollywood version that it just completely had nothing to do with the book, apart from it had a time machine in it.

I have seen a lot of really bad movies in my time.

The only movie I've ever walked out of a cinema in recent times was XXX 2 State of the Union. About 30 minutes from the end I realise I couldn't give a sh*t if the bad guys blew the main cast away with shotguns, in fact I wished they had.

And basically anything with Eddie Murphy in a kids movie in the last 10 years. I actually was made go see Daddy Daycare, which I would have walked out of if I wasn't with a group of friends. Knocking yourself unconscious by banging your head against the seat in front of you is unfortunately harder than it sounds :(

It is the cynical Hollywood cash-ins movies with completely generic plots that annoy me more than the Plan-9 From Outer Space type movies that you can at least have a good laught at.

Titanic also really really annoyed me, mainly because everyone thought it was brilliant. I tend to get more annoyed by average movies everyone things is brilliant (Shawshank Redemption anyone) than really really bad movies, because I can actually take steps to avoid really bad movies.

Oh where to start?! So many to choose from. I'll limit myself to 3 of recent times.

1st: Blade Trinity: the other 2 were good, this was just terrible. I'd try to say why but I'm just not able to do it justice.

2nd: Hostel: Would be first in the list if it weren't for the fact that there was nudity in it. What was Takashi Miike doing associating himself with this garbage.

3rd: Serenity: Jesus christ this was bad, crap dialogue, crap action, plain retarded acting. Would gladly have left after 2 minutes but the idiot I was watching it with thought it was a waste of money to leave

only 2 films i have ever left the pics early from

The Thin Red Line - boring, boring, boring
Kill Bill - overrated and pointless

I wanted to leave America Dreamz ( we knew b4 we went it would be ****e ) but were in the absolute middle of the back row and didnt want the hassle of going. That without doubt the worst film ever made, how Hugh Grant can prostuitute himself for money is beyond me.

Definitely agree with Blade Trinity. Watched half an hour and just couldn't watch anymore. But I'd disagree with Serenity. I liked it, but regardless it was just an extended episode of the Firefly tv show so unless you watched that, it made no sense (even the cheesy dialogue makes sense in the tv show :D).

Coyote Ugly really made me want to break something. It was just so ****ing stupid. I'd go along with Blade Trinity too, it was like a 90 minute iPod advert.

Catwoman. League of extraordinary gentlemen. Daredevil. Gothika. Van Helsing. Hellboy. Matrix Revolutions. Ocean's Twelve.

I was going to type up more, but nearly everyone knows why these movies were so damn bad. I don't think I could stomach sitting through any of those again.

Particularly the last one. Oceans Twelve. I'm going to repeat it because I wouldn't wish that film on my worst enemies. It's just so painfully bad.

The Village - I've never been more annoyed at a film in my life. What a turd.

I wanted to kidnap the director, put a sack over his head, drug him, fly him to my house and tell him i was english and was going to kill him. Then just as i was about to put my knife to his throat, kick him square in the balls and say "How's that for a surprise ending you f**king, no talent, little Spielberg wannabe a**hole".

    The end.

i wholeheartedly agree. topped only by kill bill 2
how Hugh Grant can prostuitute himself for money is beyond me.
if you can cast your mind back a few years, you'll remember that hugh grant likes prostitutes

agggggggggghhhhhhhhh. that means i agree. i'd like to add signs to the list of terrible M shite shyamalan's films

and war of the worlds. i waited for the credits so i could get the name of the little girl who did nothing but scream for the entire film. dakota fanning. never again

    Pearl Harbour.
What a load of a*se. I'm amazed Michael Bay is allowed to make films anymore.

The original XXX was dire too.

I have to go with him on this one. Serenity could have been done so much better! I found that it relied too much on the hope that only the fans of Firefly would see it, as there were a few things that people would have only gotten or understood if they had seen the series.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,216 ✭✭✭✭monkeyfudge

I hadn't seen the series when I went to see Serenity.. and I enjoyed it a lot and it inspired me to see the series.

It wasn't perfect... but it was several hundred times better than Revenge of the Sith... can we add all the Star Wars Prequels to this list by the way? They make me sick.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 302 ✭✭kermitdfrog

I liked War of the Worlds! Probably because I was expecting it to be crap. Your expectations tend to influence your feelings on these things - I hated Napoleon Dynamite, HATED it, but probably expected too much. So taking any prejudice out and judging films purely on how bad they actually are, I'd have to say:

    Batman and Robin
    Oceans Twelve
Sweet November (even for a chick flick it's just terrible)

House Of The Dead.... Excellent game but an awful awful film that had a very annoying habit of flashing up clips of the arcade game in random intervals.

One of the main characters was a sailor called captain kirk.... I mean c'mon....

It's like, how much more crap could this be? and the answer is none. None more crap.

True. They were completely overshadowed by anything that the Star Trek movies did in my honest opinion. Though, for the record, I never did say Serenity wasn't a good movie. It could have been so much better.

I wanna add Team America: World Police. Terrible movie. Nowhere near as funny as people made it out to be. It was just an extended episode of South Park but with puppets.

I agree... I was really looking forward to that one and really wanted to love it... but the great bits in the film were few and far between... trying to watch it a second time was very difficult.

People raved so incredibly much about this movie that when I went to see itl, I had my hopes up. And they were dashed. The Matt Damon bit was funny, yes, but thats about it.

Another one for me was Hero. It's a terrible film to watch when you're exhausted, because everything about it is so hard to follow! And some bits of it were just laughable; the water fight, the bit where the guy is having sex.. I turned to the girl beside me and said, "christ, he finished quickly.. and it was all grunting!" or the scene where the whole hall is filled with curtains and the Emperor is running around going "Brrrruuuummmmmmmm". It was like the way a child would impersonate a motorcycle.

Alien vs. Predator. For an action film it wasn't the least bit exciting. Dreadful. The dialogue was almost so bad it was funny.

Kudos to whoeveer mentioned thin red line, another terrence malick pretentious **** fest. All the pretty shots of scenery and supposedly spiritual imagry can't make a awful movie better only even more boring.

I was made watch maid in manhattan. Awful chick flick. Basically it was a rehash of an officer and a gentleman except with a change of scenery and added dire. even the ending is basically the same.

I did not care for The Godfather.

War of the worlds was the biggest crock of horse sh!t ever!!!

Oceans 12 (let's milk it while we can, and that they did, till it was dead)

Street Fighter (live action, Jean Claude van D!ckforbrains)

Batman & Robin was the worst comic adaption ever, George Clooney as batman, come on!!! As for Arnie in it, "Ice to see you", I thought he left those cheesy lines back in the 80s!!!!

Kill Bill 2, my god I know sequels are usually sh!t but this thing took over as "The worst Sequel Ever", it took him like 10 years to write it or some sh!t, my god he's talented!!!

Matrix 2 & 3, ruined the whole bloody series IMO, 1 was a classic but these 2 were complete and utter turd, I'd rather pull my eyes out than sit through these again.

The Ladykillers, officially Tom Hank's worst film ever, I'd rather watch him in Sleepless in Seattle than sit through this horrible excuse for a movie.

Showtime, daddy day care, 15 minutes - basically all the old great actors who have resorted to starring in sh!t, where are their standards gone??

Anything with Ben Affleck in it (apart from Good Will Hunting), the guy just reeks of "this film is going to flop coz I star in it"!!!!

Alien vs. Predator (also mentioned above) was the biggest pile of dinosaur dung ever, just leave both series be as they did pretty well, bar aliens 4!!!

I really really hope that this time next year I don't have to put Transformers in to this list of **** films as it has the potential to be on of the greatest films ever, if I have to I will personally assasinate the director and producers of the film if the fcuk it up!!!

To be fair, Dogma was a great movie, and he wasnt too bad in it either. Everything else he's done, yes.

The Client was the first movie I ever walked out on. I dunno, it's certainly not the worst movie ever... I just found it dullsville.

Revenge Of The Sith is the last movie I opted out of early. Absolute trash. Acting so wooden it had me clawing the arm rest.

Other terrible films I wish had never met my eyes would be Secret Window, Robocop 3, GI Jane, Da Vinci Code, Batman & Robin (worst movie ever?), Speed 2, spiderman, The Forgotten (how BAD is this movie?).....

Utter sentiments of a lot of people here:

AvP (one of the only films i've never switched off half-way through)
U-571 (the only film that made me leave the cinema outta sheer boredom)
Team America: World Police (horrible unfunny... honest to God, there's only so many times you can re-use "durka durka" and "Matt Damon" jokes!)
Mona Lisa Smile - girlfriend made me watch this.. christ, it was woeful! Like a really poor 'Dead Poets Society' with a bunch of expressionless brutal actresses
    Hero - YAWN!!
House Of Flying Daggers - nice scenery plus fancy stunts != good movie. The last few scenes in the snow were just downright crap!
The Hills Have Eyes - no, it wasn't scary or intense.. it was shi*e! The acting (apart from the young brother was decent) was atrocious. The script was obviously written by a 8 year old. And yes, Alexandra Aja really sullied his name here after 'Haute Tension'

I have SOOOOO many but i'll leave it at that for now!

PS - heyyyy... quite the Kevin Smith hating. Big fan here.. enjoyed everything of his apart from the "too slapstick-y" 'J&SB Strike Back' and "just downright crapfest" Jersey Girl

So, is this for movies that got slated and we agree with, or are we allowed to put in movies that got good reviews, but which we hated?

Ah, what the hell - here's some movies that are considered classics that I don't like.

    The Godfather
    Raging Bull
    Taxi Driver
    Gone With The Wind
Shawshank Redemption - not bad as such, just no way near as good as it's reputation
    ET
War Of The World - good up to the ending
    Braveheart
    Titantic
    Unforgiven

In fact nearly every Best Film Oscar winner of the last two decades with a few exceptions (American Beauty - great, Crash - not bad, LotR - fantastic)
