Weight Advice

    Hello,

I'm looking for some advice on weight loss. I've read the sticky about diet etc, and also the posts below about belly size etc. However, I'd really appreciate some feedback on my own situation.

I'm 30 years old, male, 6 ft tall and weigh just over 100Kgs/ 16 stone. I realise I'm overweight. I was always extremely fit, weighed about 14 stone (lot of muscle) but in the last year I've piled on the pounds. I haven't been exercising as much, due to work/family commitments, but I need to do something as my belly is just ridiculous now.

    My diet is as follows:

9 a.m: Bowl of cereal, 1 slice of toast, OJ.

    10.30 a.m Scone and jam.

1 p.m 2 home made sandwiches (ham, cheese, lettuce, peanut butter). Apple or banana.

    4 p.m Diet "healthy" bar.

    7 p.m. Dinner potatos/pasta chicken/steak veg.

    10 p.m Bowl of cereal.

I don't snack at all. I drink maybe 4 cups of tea a day. I only drink at most 4pints a week. Used to drink a lot more, but not in last year.
I only have time to walk 45 mins a day, every second day I run 2.5 miles, or cycle 15 miles, so only about 3 exercise sessions a week really.
But I am still putting on huge weight.
    Any suggestions appreciated!

ok try and replace the cereal in the morning with museli or porridge and get rid of the OJ eat a feckin orange instead.

try and replace the scone with fruit until you have at least lost the weight and even then only have tehm occasionaly

For lunch try and have wholemeal sandwiches with a chicken fillet or tuna , or chicken salads instead of processed meats

at 4 try a banana and another piece of fruit.

and what ever you do get rid of the cereal at 10. eating a sugary carb so late in the evening will just add on the weight.

And try and get back into a proper exercise regime if you really want to lose some weight

9 a.m: Bowl of cereal, 1 slice of toast, OJ. Cereal as in coco-pops? White toast?
10.30 a.m Scone and jam. -> Bad, scones are full of Trans-fats.

1 p.m 2 home made sandwiches (ham, cheese, lettuce, peanut butter). Apple or banana. --> Ham, full of Salt, peanut butter is full of fat.

4 p.m Diet "healthy" bar. is there such a thing?

7 p.m. Dinner potatos/pasta chicken/steak veg. - Potatoes, loaded with carbs in the everning is not good, steak can be fatty
    10 p.m Bowl of cereal. --> Cereal at 10pm?

I don't snack at all. I drink maybe 4 cups of tea a day. I only drink at most 4pints a week. Used to drink a lot more, but not in last year.

Cut the tea and the pints for now, subsitute what i have marked with more healthy items.

Thx for the advice, it's just the kick in the ass I need!
Starting now I'm going to make those diet changes - just a few quick questions:
what about eating late in the evening (i.e. 10 p.m?). If not cereal, what about toast and cheese? Or a yoghurt?
And what about tea? Some other posts said green tea boosts the metabolism. So any harm in drinking that or coffee?
    Thanks again!

This is fine if you are up to speed on your program. However, if you are trying to lose weight like the OP, eating after 7.30/8 in the evening is detrimental.

That means your body has no nutrients for twelve hours or so while you sleep. It'll respond by storing fat as it wont know where its next meal is coming from.Eat a light protein meal before going to bed to prevent this.Certainly dont eat CARBS after 8 if you want to lose weight.

I'd also try to include some form of lean protein in every meal. Protein is pretty ,much out of your system within 2.5 - 4 hours. As such you should try to eat protein with every meal every 2.5 - three hours. It doesn't have to be a lot, a can of tuna is fine. This will keep you satisifed for longer as it helps in slowing down the release of blood sugar. It will also help keep the lean muscle tissue you have on your body rather than used as protein source.
