I'm dreading it. Paper 1 is awful for me as I just can't write essays for my life. I hope I'm in an "English mood" on the day...

Biology - okish.. i'm hoping to honor it. have done loads of questions in exam & sample papers.
Geography - wtf is going on?! just gonna do as much as i can.
Accounting - sorted as i have 5 days off before this exam
    Spanish - as above

English: Fine dont really care about it to be honest
Maths: To get a C1 will be easy but to get a A2 will be hard.
Geog: Ah lost in this subject just goin to try my best on the day.
Bus: Ah think I left it too late to study for it.
    Con.st: 50% done already hope to get a B2
Tech Drawin: teacher told me that i would get a B i really dont think i can might get a C1 if im lucky
    German: So fu*ked its unreal!

english is easy, i just have to turn up and i'll do well.

the only thing you have to do in english is poetry and revise the comparative studies. bluff the rest.

chill, relax, zen... it's 11 days by the way  OVER a week and a half

English - Havent studied it since the mocks... lots of work to be done in it this week
Maths: Grand, pass is piss, I need a B2
Irish: Need to do a bit of revision on some of the pros
Music: 50% done, really easy subject
Physics: Been doing alot of this over the last month, as long as I dont fail, ha ha
History: I dont think I can do anymore, I know the books off by now
French: Hopefully its an easy paper!!

    Im nervous...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,252 ✭✭✭Funkstard

Well here's me basically. I can't afford to get a B2 in any subject pretty much:

Art - Practicals went grand, it's just I don't really know what the story is with the Art History. I have a day off before it so alot of work will be done then hopefully
English - By far the subject I'm dreading the most. I have my 2 comparative essays ready to be learned off, but I haven't done Lear in about a month, and poetry...I think it's going to be me learning off personal responses, without knowing the poetry itself too well. Not even sure how many poets I'm doing, probably 4. My panic for the essay in paper 1 has steadily risen over the last few days and is now at 'ready to cry' level. I can't remember the last time I did an essay.
French - Orals went grand, I'm good at comprehensions & ok at the aural, but before school broke up I was only getting 18/19 out of 30 for the written. Haven't done anything for it yet either
Geography - I'm fine except for the fact that I, along with everyone else, doesn't have a clue whats going on. I have some of the sample questions done, but that's my problem - knowing the topic, not knowing how to answer a question on it. The fact that it's so easy and general means that they're going to expect very high quality answers if you're looking for a high mark.
Irish - Decided last week I'm doing pass. Don't care.
Tech. Drawing - I only took it up this year but it's now my best subject & the subject I'm most prepared for.
Maths - I've gotten 4 questions revised as best as I can, I'm doing trigonometry now. Once I get algebra & question 4/5 on paper 1 done it's plain sailing. We finished the course in...October and since then have done every past paper from the '94 sample paper - 2005 (bar 95/96 papers - the 'off the wall' years).
Physics - Just need a pass at ordinary level for matriculation, don't care

Architecture in UCD was 535 last year, so I'm aiming for that even though it'll go up. I need a few A1's, alot of A2's and one or two B1's and I'll be alright. I can't afford to get below 80% in any subject! That's whats scaring me.

That's the summary...it's gotten to the stage where I should be learning off stuff but I can't for some reason. I started off the week great, but since then my enthusiasm & concentration levels have wained considerably. Now I'm sitting there panicking, frustrated & scared - but not doing anything about it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 92 ✭✭Muiriosa

Feels like there is so little time to go back over all the stuff. Just can't wait to get stuck into it though and get it out of the way. I'm not too bad though cos I'm finished in 5 days!! Starting on Wednesday, finished on the following Tuesday! Brilliant. But still the thoughts of it all coming at once scares me...

    Sooner tis over the better!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,645 ✭✭✭Shrimp

    engrish - should be fine
    Irish - just wanna pass
maths - it should be ok
    french - i'll be fine
geography - yep, bull**** is my speciality
biology - tricky, so much stuff
art - prrft, piece of piss..

    I HOPE..........

just a bit on the nerves situation, after doing the leaving last year.

as soon as the first day is over, you'll wonder wtf your teachers were on about, about the leaving being such a big deal and all that jizz.

the exams will just be like another summer exam except it actually will be summer whilst doing them.

    good luck all!

In English.. is anyone just learning off stuff directly off notes from courses and books etc...
Can they still nail you for plagarism if it isn't a lookin' over your shoulder job?

Business - I've prepared every question 1 so I'll definitely being getting 60 marks for question 1.
As for the other 3 long questions ... well sure once I know the jist of them...
Still have to practice ABQ and short questions...

German - OMG OMG I'm trying my best to study everything I failed my Oral so I need to get a good result in the written and Aural. I gpt about 3 percent from the oral so far...not even I'd say. I got a D3 lasy year

Art - Well sure it's just a case of making oyt about 6 essays and learning them most of Art is finished now anyway and it'd be very hard to fail it considering the effort I put in for the practicle.

Irish [pass] My 7th back up subject :D I couldn't even tell you the tiyles of the stories/poems.

Biology - Kinda worried ALLOT still to do made out 20 questions to do tomorow.

    English - Terrified.
Don't even know the story to As you Like It nevermind the characters...Prepared Bishop and Hopkins so far have to do Hardy and Plath on monday. Comparative - I want to kill it yes if it was a person standing in front of me ohhhhh ... I get so angry even trying to prepare for it with all the''is similar to's and crap HATE IT SO MUCH that I CAN'T prepare for it I don't even know how I'm going to even actually write the fecking thing in the actual exam.

Geography - Whathewacca whaat confusion big blur. Ah sure I'll be grand I know the Mezzigiorno and India off by heart just need to revise Ireland and some other Euopean region oooh and that Isotopy thing haha what ever that is. I've gone over and practiced zillions of geoecology questions...worried about the human elective prolly have a look over that on tuesday.

English: Haven't done much, but I get high B's on paper ones regularly, just need to up paper two a bit.

Irish: Eh, joke of a subject, night-before job

French: Need to learn some handy phrases, royally ****ed for the listening part

Maths: Please god it'll be an ok paper, my grade curve in this is wacky. From Bs to Fs

Engineering: 4 days off before this, easy

Physics: Been working on this since mocks, still fairly certain i will fail though, the stuff just doesn't sink in!

Biz: Easy enough, not too worried.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,130 ✭✭✭Azureus

im not nervous yet, but i also havent studied as much as i should have lately. took a day off completely today, even the thought of study was tiring me out! as for how im feeling bout each subject

English- im grand for paper one, know plath bishop and longley ok, need to go over the others and Lear, havent a clue what im at for comparitive-anyone know where i can get some sample essays to work off?

Irish-so so fecked, paper one will be ok i think , but nee some serious work on paper 2!!!

French-meh, should be ok, not too sure how to prepare for the listening other than practise though-which i never seem to get around to.

    Maths-grand

Art-last exam and im really confident in it

Geog-eugh, dunno where to start its hit and miss-depends how the marking scheme goes.

    Biology-know units 1 and 2 well, have to revise 3 a lot.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 636 ✭✭✭NADA

Ah. I'm dreading English. I hate the way you have to go and write cack essays about stuff like King Lear. It'll be like this. THe language is excellent in paragraph on and the author is amazing blahdy blahdy blah! I consider it a pain in the arse more than I'm worried about it.

Irish. All I can say is LOL

Maths--- well prepared. Hoping for an a1 in honours. Got a b2 in the pre but the paper was rpck hard and strange.

German-- Sorted. A1 here I come. Got ian a1 in the mocks and my oral was even better in the real thing.

Accounting--- I'll be grand. Some **** to do. Hope departmental question 1 doesn't come up. if it does it will cost me about 20points. Hoping for an a1

Physics--- Did a lot of work. Hopefully I can get at least a b1 maybe an a1

Geography. Got 96% in the pre but it was marked ridiculously easy. Hopeing for an A1. Lots to learn though!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 307 ✭✭Idgeitman

Irish - Few stories/poems to learn and it'll be grand

english - pass english - no point in worrying, the course is hammered into me

maths - €1000 worth of grinds, was worth it, remember the formula's and im good

Geog - Never been that hard

Construction and Engineering - I got an 8 day gap between the first batch and these, so plenty
    of time.

No point in worrying, not as if we havent seen be before, its the same general structure as the mocks. so not as if its gonna be like "holy **** i didnt know it was this long", we've been prepareing since the JC ended. haha remember the JC?, how bad it was meant to be, then turned out like a glorified summer test.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 960 ✭✭✭:|

English-pretty screwed, hate this subject with a passion

Irish-lots to do still, havent even started on an triall, too much to learn! i managed a b in the mocks but i knew exactly what was coming up

Maths-thought i was ok until i started doing past paper questions, am lost on integration and complex nos, could fail!

french-written paper should be ok, i will fail the listening though

Acc- cant seem to be able to remember the accounts!! pretty screwd here

Physics-hopefully this is ok, my favourite subject

    Geog-completely lost

I'm freaking out big time myself! I have so much sh*t to learn this week its unreal!

Irish(H)- All i want is a C2 or C3 but I'll be very lucky if i even get that. I should have been learning stuff for the past 2 years but have left it all way too late! I can't write essays, never have a clue about the comps and all the learning I have to do for Paper 2, noooo :(

Maths(O) - My only pass subject so I'm giving it the back seat, a nice high C in it and I'll be happy

English(H)- Love the subject but for some reason after the junior cert I lost any talent I had for writing essays! That and Lear is the only problem, comparatives and poetry should be fine! Hoping for a B.

Geography(H) - Like everyone I'm totally confuzzled about the whole thing! Have to learn the whole bloody course this week, eek, and then hope for the best. It's the questions they ask in them bloody papers that scare me the most! Hoping for a high C.

Biology(H) - Have to learn nearly the whole lot this week, its a lot to learn but I should be OK, I'm hoping for a B.

Art(H)- did fairly well in the practicals, I think it'll be a night before job for the history of art! It's not too bad, you can talk alotta ****e haha. Hoping for a High C.

French(H) - Barely hung on at higher level but I hope I think I'll manage. After getting fairly ok at the comps and the written pieces, but I have the vocabulary of a 2ndyear! Hoping for a C of some sort haha!

Good luck with the cramming this week everyone, I know I need it!

it'll probably strike me the day before the results or something.. aah well, twill be too late to do anything then!

Maths: Fairly confident about this. Just finished learning off all the theorems, now just Vectors and some Trignometry to go over and I'm sorted.

Applied Maths: I've a week and a half between history and this, so I haven't done a tap and I should be grand.

English: I've got 5 poetry essays written up, 1 and a half comparatives, and 4 Lears. Should be able to learn them off fairly easily. I've forgotten about Paper 1 but it should be alright with some practice.

History: Soooo much left to do. A few days of pure history should get me there but that's easier said than done.

Business: Somehow, I only have one chapter left to study. I'll go over everything quickly and maybe practice some exam questions but I don't foresee any problems here.

French: For some reason, I've forgotten about French. I basically spent all of 5th year learning the language and was confident of an A, but that has all evaporated now. Ah well. I'll do some practice and hope for the best.

Irish: I wish I hadn't stayed in honours. I spent ages studying the poems and the stories and the stair, realised how little it was really worth and that no matter how much I did I was always going to fall short of my other subjects. I'm undecided as to whether I'll bother learning off an essay or An Triail or the rest of the literature or just leave it. Seems a bit of a waste...

Overall, with the exception of Irish, I'm fairly confident of having enough time in the coming days to get myself ready. Unless Scrubs is on.

I've not done any study all this week and its starting to scare me..

Maths - I'm usually a border line pass on this, yet I've been working so freaking hard on it.. I dunno... BLEH!!!!

English - Should be ok.. I'm banking on the usual female/irish poet combo to happen. And the Lear question I can always bluff it spectacuarly. Lets just hope I don't screw up my essay in Paper One

Irish - Pass, don't need it

German - I'm hoping NOTHING like the pre paper comes up, its was ****!ng ridiculious. Teacher said it was uni standard.. Anyway, orals went really well ( got the easiest roleplays and picture sequences) Just gotta get my grammar and sentence structures up to scratch

History - A1 banker for me.. I hope. It should be piss easy considering its the first year and I know most of the course inside out.

Economics - Only took it up this year, another A1-A2 hopefully

T.D - I really need to work on finishing every question. Other than that it'll be a B min for me, I hope

Physics - I might not even turn up for the exam,......

you may choose to ignore me, but my advice is..

know each story in English, know what its about, know the main theme, and learn of a few phrases for it..
that way, at least you'll know in your head what you're supposed ot be saying, and hopefully on the day you'll have enough Irish to get it down...

its not too much effort, and i think its much better than just forgetting about everything..

say for Fiche Bliain as Fás, for the mocks, i hadnt done any preparation for it at all, apart from the night before, where i read through the summary.. it stayed in my head, and the question was about points of humour in the extract, so i managed to write somethign down.. got me a good few marks too, and that was with about 10 minutes of effort!

the same with an Triail, just be sure you understand what happens, in English, and at least you'll have something to say..

isnt it right that in paper 2, they cant really mark you down for grammar mistakes and everything? thats what our teacher told us..
they care more about actually talking about the stories/poems/play?

so i say.. just write dome some relevant stuff!

dont worry yourself with learning off answers or anything..

ok. i'll go back into my box now...

English-Other than poetry,I'm pretty sorted for this, not expecting anything over a B in it though.I have the comparatives very well learnt, and I can bluff Lear to a small degree but I have no quotes learnt for it,at all.

Irish-Pass level.I hate it.I really do.I hate it a lot.I got a c3 in the mocks on it and all I want is the d3 in it

Accounting-In the mocks I only got 57% in this which I was really disapointed with(damn time problems :( ).Have put a lot of work in this, and have a week free before this(although it shares a day with physics) so I'm expecting a B2/1 or an A2

Italian-Pass level due to my lazyness.Did pass on the mocks, and got an A1,I shouldve done honours but I'm happy sticking with pass now.

Physics-I hate this subject. But I'm prepared for all the experiments, and 5 long questions(leaving me no choice though...)I only picked it because I hate chemistry even more.

Geography-In the mocks,I was disapointed with this.I got 66% in it which I was really annoyed at,I'd expected a good B.We had some stupid "alternative paper" instead though, and I hadn't done the option book(meaning I had to use what I heard on the news to answer it) so this should hopefully be a B or an A as well.

Maths:Paper 1 is great,I know it very well.Differentiation and integration love me and I got 149/150 on those 3 questions in the mocks.Paper 2 is bad.I hate trignomatry so much, although I've put a lot more work into it now.Hoping for a C3 in this subject...Paper 2 bought me down in the mocks,a lot.

You hear it far too much from us college types, but really, the key is to maintain just the healthy amount of panic that spurs you into working, while not letting it worry you while you're taking a time out.

In college I see too many people who genuinely know material but get mental blanks as a result of freaking out far too much and then panic because their memories aren't firing at 100%. Just keep taking deep breaths, and treat your body well for the next month or so - full nights of sleep are a genuine recommendation because you'll need the rest before two-paper days, and you'll absorb what you're revising while you sleep. Really is my number one recommendation anyway.

    Best of luck, everyone! :D

Cheers, that's actually very relevant advice for me. With the short stories in the mock, I got 0/40 - couldn't even remember the basic storyline of An Cearrbhach Mac Cába, couldn't be arsed to attempt the question. I'll see how much time I have left after my other subjects and, depending on that, either go for your approach or try my 'fluke' strategy. That is, pick one or two poems/one or two short stories/one or two an triail questions/two or three stair/an essay, learn off some proper answers, ignore the rest and pray for a gigantic fluke. As long as I get a C, I really don't care - and, who knows, I might get lucky and nail the exam.

Speaking of english, there are some good notes on www.sparknotes.com. I found some interesting ones for King Lear and Silas Marner there if anyone is doing those texts.

since i got off last monday, i havn't done ANYTHING and don't intend to.

i'll wait til monday and tuesday next week to start studying. if you overload your minds too much at this stage, you'll suffer from burnout in the middle of exams and won't be alert towards the last exams.

the most important thing is to relax and be able to clear your mind, focus 100% on each question.

you guys are in panic mode already, just listen to yee. you took 1 day off from study - oh my god  that's suicide, you're going to fail because of that

I only need about 260-300 points, (which isnt a problem) but I need a C in maths for my course, (which is a huge problem) and granted I am worrying most of the time, I agree with ya partially, today is the first day since monday Iv'e done any work, and so far it's consisted of just an hours worth and practicing some paper1 questions. Im gonna concentrate on maths and english, and as soon as the first weekend comes, I'll put my head down and get my sh!t together.
It's not that I'm particulary lazy, Iv'e did the work, and put the hours in since christmas (2 hours of study after school most days) it's just a case of reading over the stuff, and revising.
Iv'e been in and out of "meh not to worry" mode, and "omfg what if I fail" mode :D

    Atm i'm ok though.

But y'see the thing is, is that I'm learning most things for the first time. Was out allot this year so take today for example I learned the region India. I haven't read this before so it's all new. Tomorow I've to do Scania and the West and East of Ireland. Again it's all new to me. If I didn't do it now I'd be leaving blanks in the exam.

The same goes for the Irish stories and poems - don't even know the titles because I was out of school when we were doing them.
So I REALLY can't afford to miss a day of studying.
