Plantar fasciitis, no more walking need to find swimming pool

Have plantar fasciitis (strained muscle = pain in heel/sole of foot basically) and doc has said I'm not to walk for a few weeks at least. I usually (regularly since February only intermittently for the year before that) walk home from work in the evenings - about 4 miles - and go for a two or three hour walk up the mountains at least one day on the weekend. It's pretty much my only exercise. Still have a considerable amount of weight to lose especially now as it contributes, along with my extremely high arches, to my foot problem.

So, am trying to find a bike to borrow for getting to and from work and would also like to start going swimming. I was thinking about the Markiewicz pool in town which would be close to work but have heard it's always really busy. There is a pool beside the Garda station in Crumlin/Sundrive - does anyone know what that's like? Any other pool recommendations for Terenure/Harold's Cross/Kimmage/Crumlin area?

My other option is to join a gym, LA Fitness and Carlisle wouldn't be too far. I'm not sure if it would work out just too expensive though as I know from previous experience I wouldn't use the gym istelf (even after foot is better) and it's really just a pool I need access to.

There's one in Terenure school open to the public. Also a public pool in Rathmines. Both 25m length

Doctor said it was okay to try it but to stop immediately if it cause pain. It depends on where you put the pressure apparently. I've gotten so well acquainted with my feet over the last couple of months that I'm fairly confident I'll know straight away if it's the wrong type of movement. It's one of the things suggested on the vhi website though so I'm not toooo worried about it.

    Thanks for your replies.

might be worthwhile getting a second opinion, I had this 2 years ago after a half marathon, it lingered for 3/4 months but I could certainly walk and even do short easy runs without making it any worse. night splints, stretching, running your foot over a golf ball, icing etc etc are the best things I found. my advice would be to find a good physio/physical therapist as they would likely have much more experience of this type of injury than a doctor..

Make sure to stretch your calf's really well to. It can have a beneficial effect.

I can get terrible pain all along the base of my foot/arch if I dont pay attention to how I cycle, too much pressure (too high a gear) and cycling like I have elephantitis of the balls puts a lot of pressure on the outside of my foot and the pain is excruciating.
As bad as I get skiing sometimes when my foot decides to have a fit in my boots.
