Well. Strong II.1 I'd say. Maths could have gone a bit better I suppose though.

    How did they go? They don't start for nearly a week ;_;

Such an easy exam if any study was done. I passed, I'm pleased. Its a slippy slope downwards after today I think until Saturday 12-30 of course!

7/8 done, thank God!!! But I'm so bloody tired!

Before you all decide you hate me, I've been doing exams for two weeks and finish on June 7th ... and I still had four exams in seven days, despite being in finals mode for a month. Ye bastids, ucd :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭shay_562

4 out of 9 done. Business went pretty well - I screwed up the Barney question 'cause I hadn't read the text in about 8 months (it was on my list of 'non-essential' texts during yesterday's study blitz, shows how much I know) but the rest went well enough. The next three aren't too bad, Economics is the only hard one left.
mmh its hard to believe that the exams will be over so soon.

Feh. Speak for yourself - mine don't finish 'til June 7th.

I like to think of it as god having a personal vendetta against me and only me, but hey, if you think it's cause I'm trying too hard I'm not going to argue with you.

Just out of my first exam now, the wildly sexy and exciting Gender and Popular Culture. Couple of twists in the questions but think I covered it all. Now for a week's break before Mental Health and Addiction Studies...

Just finished Maths. So tired. So very tired. need cram another exam. I'm gonna just crash out on Thursday afternoon - though i have been conscripted into helping someone move stuff, think i'll just fall asleep there :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,764 ✭✭✭shay_562

Maths and Stats. Maths went surprisingly well, Stats less so (I had a complete mind blank on some of the formulae, but I think I managed to make it look like I knew more than I do), but all good in general. Sociology tomorrow - men=bad. Womyn=good. I think I'm ready for it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,314 ✭✭✭Nietzschean

had me yokie there twas grand, could have been better, could have been worse... should be a 2.1 anyway barring me overlooking something massive..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

My first exam was yesterday and it went well. Probably could have answered in more detail but I didn't leave anything major out so all in all, a good result. I'm not as confident about paper II though but luckily that's not til Thursday.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 975 ✭✭✭Plunky

Done 2 of 5 and I've been RIDICULOUSLY lucky that my topics have come up (for today's, i had studied 2 topics for an "answer 2 of 6" paper and they were both there in all their developmental glory!)
Long may it continue (at least until the 6th...)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 887 ✭✭✭wheresthebeef

well i reckon i failed the first one, not knowing anything much about health promotion and approaches to it.

but the second paper was fine, consent to treatment and care of the deceased were nice and straight forward.

note to all students, do not feck off to brussels on a european junket for the weekend before exams!!!

yea ok i guess, was happy enough with business yesterday, less impressed with maths and stats today tho. didnt like it at all, or more to the point it didnt like me!!

but come on how CUTE was good ol o'toole walking around asking us were we alright?! i mean ahhh i clearly wasnt but awwwww! and what is it with that man ALWAYS lloking so hung over?! i mean wow he looked well rough today!

first out of four, done with 3 to go (2 in the next 7 days, then last one on the 10th - will the pav be open on a saturday, 3 WC games on that day i think!!). anyway passing so far!!! what a waste that a four year degree boils down to pass/fail for me at the moment....

Paper 1 physics (though they're all physics)

Damn hard paper, that was generally the consensus (apart from a couple lucky people). Screwed up on time a bit and lost a couple marks for that. But generally made the best of a bad situation. I'd say I got low 50's in that one (need 50% to pass this year). Hope to god I can pull it up in the other ones.

    Stupid physics, so goddamn hard!

Yeah.. I'll second that.. all the TPs seemed to think it was a bitch.

And Blau's questions? wtf? I was expecting them to be easy playschool questions since he kind of only taught us half a course.. instead he asks us weird shίt that I dont think he really covered in any detail.

If i did as well as i hoped, i passed by a margin. If i did as badly as i fear, i failed. who knows?! all i know is i'm tired. oh so tired.

My second exam today. Went quite well. Psychology could have gone better but it could have gone worse too. The immunology question kept up the same trend of being the same as the one on the biochemistry paper (which was yesterday ;)) and genetics was a gift of a question. There was a bit of bother with the paper as the wrong questions were printed but it didn't affect me and I got 20 minutes extra at the end. Score for John.

And it seems my divine beseeching paid off. Don't think I could have asked for a much better paper... Pretty sure it's dragged me up just into the 2.1 average. Suweeet, what a relief. Just gotta keep that up now for the last two papers.
    Sev wrote:

What did the TP's think of this paper 2? I know you don't do our quantum (which were actually kinda hard this year) but the electromag? Handy what? Thermo was a little tough for myself, especially considerin the minimal study I put in, I was damn lucky with that adiabatic demagnetisation Q. But what did ye think of it overall? Most of the EPs/AP's I talked too seemed a bit happier with it than paper1.

You absolute lucky bastid!!! Ah no good to hear you're doing well.

Crash I'm sure you'll be grand. Just remember how little fun bein marginal is though this year and next year you might work to a fraction of your ability and ace them. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,328 ✭✭✭Sev

Yeah.. that paper 2 was great.. of course I still made some retarded mistakes.. but it was a very fair paper.

    2 essays which were brillaint

one which was mediocre, bit ranty, and one which was to quote bartronllic a big pile of bray. infact someone from bray would have been embarrassed by it.

too tired, slept in, got there on time, still stressed from the shock of waking up, then worried about non exam things all through the exam. passed certainly....but i wanted a I

then worried about non exam things all through the exam.

Oh yeah, that. Best exam worry ever.

Boo-urns to the lack of a globalization essay on PolSci, and also to the doubling up on institutions (also, what was with that "You're stuck on a desert island" question. Has she been watching Lost DVDs or something?), but I'm almost certain I passed, which is all I need.

yEAH but that was supposed to be all Bicarmel and unicarmel whatever the hell its supposed to be. I stayed away from that.

I did question 7, its was the only essay I didn't have prepared as such so I gave them a taste of this

Last one tomorrow. It's accounting, will be happy with a II:2 in it, crappy subject that's of no use to me.

Does the library stay open over the hols? If so, what hours?

It's 9-5 once the exam period is over afaik. I used to go in the summer after first and second year to read all the books that I didn't get a chance to during the year.

Why would one subject themselves to the library over the summer

    1. Economic Analysis
    2. Monetary & Welfare Economics
    3. Economics of Less Developed Countries
    4. Industrial Economics, and most importantly:
    5. Econometrics

Having a good grounding (i.e. most of the Michaelmas Term stuff studied) in all of these prior to the commencement of the 2006/2007 Academic Year will provide me with either:
    1. A fine grounding for a I end of year grade, or
    2. A good grounding for a II.1 end of year grade and a strong attempt at Schols again.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 290 ✭✭Right_Side

Meh, ucd library is a short walk from my gaff so I plan on using it extensively over the summer to read books I've always wanted to, especially novels and history, since I cannot possibly afford to buy all the books I want.

(at any one time, I covet at least forty books. Yes, I have a problem. I don't care though. :p )

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 290 ✭✭Right_Side

Whats with the burning desire to do Schols a second time? I'd only consider it if I felt I didn't give it my best the first time.

I gave it my best all the way up until the exams. I completely shirked on the Linear Regression on Maths&Stats (worth 30% of exam) and thus a near certain I dropped to a II.2.

Dr. Walti (no umlauts on this keyboard) gave me 30% on the IS-LM question, giving me zero marks for sections (b) and (c), getting (near?) full marks in the other parts. Had I interpreted (b) and (c) correctly, or rather intepreted them in the specific method he didn't specify well enough, it would have made a big difference on the overall grade. We're talking as much as 15%. Again, economics was a II.2.

Account for those two, and two exemptions becomes very close to Schols very quickly.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

Dr. Walti (no umlauts on this keyboard)

Just add an "e" after the umlauted word, it's the same thing.

On a general exam related note, the BLU and Hamilton Libraries will be open this coming Saturday afternoon (3rd of June) to 1600 and on Sunday (4th of June) 1100 - 1700.

This is a first1 for the June Bank Holiday - it is normally closed apart from the Saturday morning on this Bank Holiday.

However, it will remain closed (along with the rest of College) on the Bank Holiday Monday.

(I received an announcement from a nice Keeper today)

[edit] One other thing, I'm fairly swamped with queries these days so if anyone is looking to get my attention on here, please send me a private message or e-mail me at education AT tcdsu DOT org.

    Thanks,

    Dónal (Education Officer)

    __________
    1. 'First' is according to what I was told. Mr. EduCat has suitably corrected me that this has, of course, happened in the past. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,135 ✭✭✭✭John

My general paper went well. The best description of it was challenging. Could have gone better, could have gone worse but I'm happy with how it went.

Oh and Dónal, sorry I didn't make it to Captain America's in the end. Someone we were meant to be meeting was bringing vouchers and he bailed so we headed to Eddie Rockets instead.
