It's not secure sites that are a problem - it's any Word or PDF downloads at present. Have tried turning off firewall and have installed Mozilla Firefox to no avail.

Whats the name of the site? Have you tried, right click and save link as in Firefox.

There are extra add-ons that allow you to view PDF and DOC files within internet explorer, this is probably why you cannot download them. These things (in my experience anyway) are notorious for crashing the browser. To download the file just do as Ruu said

Just tried this and selected 'save link as', clicked save again and it downloaded onto my desktop immediately. The website in question is the claims forms page www.revenue.ie. Normally, I just click on the link and it downloads - what might have changed? Thank you both for solving the problem.

Ugh pdf files are the devil. I think I must have installed a plugin or some such junk when installing Adobe Reader, hateful, hateful format. Crashes my browser nearly everytime without fail.

As in, it opens automatically? What happens when you just click on it now?

Boardsie Enhancement Suite - a browser extension to make using Boards on desktop a better experience (includes full-width display, keyboard shortcuts, dark mode, and more). Now available through your browser's extension store.

    Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/addon/boardsie-enhancement-suite/

    Chrome/Edge/Opera: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/boardsie-enhancement-suit/bbgnmnfagihoohjkofdnofcfmkpdmmce

I hate pdf's, they are the spawn of Satan. The only truly usefull pluggin i have for firefox alerts me when i click on a pdf link and asks if i would like to open it in a browser, cancel or download the file. It is a Godsend!

Nothing, a new page opens but nothing downloads.
