Yes, but if you amend that search trinity college/ UCD (nobody types in university college), you get this:
    http://www.google.com/trends?q=Trinity+College+Dublin%2C+UCD&ctab=0&date=all&geo=all

And if you search TCD/ UCD, you get this:

    http://www.google.com/trends?q=TCD%2C+UCD&ctab=0&date=all&geo=all

    :D

But what could there possibly be for true greatness to be jealous of?

    Trinity College Dublin:
A world-respected institution and the most hallowed hall of academia on this island

    University College Dublin...er...Dublin:
A Stalinist carpark with toilet-paper degrees.

    God I love UCD....

    er...D.

Not so much for trinity itself, but who's at trinity ... and by that, I mean my intended supervisor next year. And for the record, my application to trinity was completed before I met the bf :D

Well, can't really deny that it'd be a plus, but it was only really considered after I'd already applied :D

But is trinity not really just the sum of its staff/students/pgrads and a few buildings?

Yeah, but I don't really care about the sum of whatsit ... just want my thesis to be supervised by a guy who happens to be teaching there ... he's the expert in the area ....
The rest of it's an irrelevance really :D

okay, so we're all just going to ignore the potential revenue from the glory holes?! It's twice as popular as the Book of Kells!

Nah, it's cos there's too many historians of modern Ireland in UCD, so he can't get in :D

Wonderful's not the first word that comes to mind when I think of you tbh, Ian (though I do try to avoid doing that :p) :D

Sigh another childish debate among TCD students about how better they are at being then everyone else

    Settled

Sigh, another UCD student who thinks that proving some minor victory for UCD doesn't show up their inferiority complex... :D.

Hint: Change the word from "TCD" to "Trinity", and watch UCD's ass get thoroughly wamped.

EDIT: On second thoughts, leave TCD as it is, and replace UCD with UCDD - tis only fair, sure we changed our name to that anyway. See how many f**kin results that turns up...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,246 ✭✭✭✭Riamfada

Im sorry but what exactly , other than the attitude of TCD students makes TCD any better? TBH you have your fair share of horrid buildlings .

In fairness, neither "TCD" nor "Trinity" is adequate, seeing as the former is rarely referred to and the latter is also common outside of Irish university lingo.

No need to get pedantic, sure no matter how specific you may be with google search, it'll always throw up results that have absolutely no relevance to what you typed in. Irritating as hell, but a regular occurence.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 595 ✭✭✭gilroyb

If you're going to get particular about not using trinity then there are issues with using UCD seeing as it's the initials for a number of colleges around the world, and I'd imagine a good deal of other institutions.

Can't we all just get along?

International ranking after international ranking after postgraduate opportunities after international recognition after international ranking?

And that's before we get into the superiority of our students' academic prowess ;).

And yissers' attitude that you have to prove that ye're as good as us.

Actually, I was referring to peoplefinder, where he is down as Dr.

Me? Philosophically? You don't know me bob :)

I completely agree. But it's not pompous to say our university is better. We are, by most all reports, just that bit better.

Is it pompous for a Liverpool fan to say his team are better than Aston Villa? Not at all. And if the pompous thing was just a general stab at Trinity, you really don't know the students well enough.

My parents both went to UCD - Mum did English, Dad did Medicine.

One of my sisters and one of my brothers went to Trinity - to do English and Drama respectively.

I've spent a lot of time in both universities. I know what I'm talking about.

And so what if I'm a wannabe Trinner? At least I admit that the only reason I'm not there right now is cos I missed out by 20 points (still rankles). I know plenty of others in your "camp" that secretly would love to be in TCD but didn't get the points.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,246 ✭✭✭✭Riamfada

You ever meet somone so ignorant on the street who believes their idiotic ideas with such conviction that you become so frustrated that you just want to scream in their face and bang your head against the wall untill the brains come pouring out? Thats how I feel when Trinner's lot need tell the world how great their college is. And well to be honest I dont really care which college is better but Id rather be in UCD with the people I have met there than spend any time with the quality of people from TCD .

seb i am sure there are plenty of people out there who would have prefered to have gone to Trinity but they generally are the people that bitch about UCD non stop *cough cough and see themselves as too good for UCD. Im sure there are exceptions of course but thats what I have seen

Arts Block FTW to be honest :(. And I know it's the preserve of the dark side, but good call on CRANN. It's gonna look great.

Ever feel so frustrated that your girlfriend can be proud of wearing her NUIM hoodie but you can't wear your TCD coat for fear of being considered a snob - or worse?

Get over it. You're aware that calling people snobby simply because of the college they go to is snobby too, right? Can you name anyone on this board that's snobby?

Yeah there are some snobs in Trinity, but not a magnificent amount more than UCD4. The biggest snob I know goes to UCD. As one of her friends brilliantly said of her lately, she's only ugly on the inside :D.

The arts block has something about it. It's not as ugly as people make out, and quiet beautiful in it's own right. Allot of architecture and design went into the building. The Lyod and the sniam are just factory packeted and ship buildings, horrific both of them.

I'm not going to get involved in this stupid UCD vs TCD debate because it's petty and childish. We like our college, you like yours.

But one thing I will say is: re snobbish behaviour. I have encountered FAR more of this in UCD than I have in Trinity. We have a great mix of people from all over Ireland and indeed the world. UCD seems to be largely populated by south Dublin bourgeois saps who care more about what you wear than who you are. So don't give me this crap about Trinity being snobby, because things are FAR worse in UCD, D4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,246 ✭✭✭✭Riamfada

To be honest I dont ever come into this forum but the title

"Glory Holes v Book of Kells" really says it all about what this college thinks of itself in relation to UCD ie a Disgusting Sexual Reference to UCD against the pinnacle of medieval education associated with TCD. Even though I always associated the Book of Kells with ..... Monks and not Trinnity

Wow. You complete and utter sap. The glory holes was in reference to our own, in the Hamilton toilets. This is what you get for barging in and being a hysterical little bitch.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,945 ✭✭✭cuckoo

The ducks in Trinity have a bit of mud to root around in whenever the rugby pitch floods. The ducks in UCD have a lake.

    Ergo, UCD is superior.

*insert the usual platitude about each institution having it's own strengths and weaknesses, there's many different ways to define 'better', etc, etc*

The real question is - which of the two campuses has the highest concentration of ooompa looompas?
