    Hi there,

I have a friend who wants to lose weight. The problem is that she is just starving herself an over exercising (walking running for an hour everyday, does sport, dancing, uses a bike for and hour everyday)

She doesn't have breakfast, just eats salads  and fruit. She denys not eating and just says she's not hungry.

She's not even fat.. she's 163cm and 55kg or 8.5st. She says she'd like to take 2 or 3 off that number..

Can you people tell me if this can be healthy (most important) and then what would be the best way to burn off "fat"?

    Thanks

Your friend is definitely on the slim side already - 8st 7 at 5'5" is a really nice weight. The exercise is healthy, but living on salads and fruit is completely unsustainable and she needs to get protein. Also, by going on a crash regimen like this, she could end up messing up her metabolism and gaining the weight back the minute she starts eating normally again.

Girls (myself included) are guilty of wanting instant results, but she would be far better off eating sensibly and keeping up the exercise.

She's not very slim. btw I think she's 5'4" .. I might have got the cm wrong in the OP. I've told her about her metabolism and all but she won't listen.
Maybe she just needs to tone up rather than lose "fat"

She is quite slim. Her BMI is under 21. She not only needs protein in her diet, she also needs some fat. People want to be thin, when they should really want to be healthy.

Hi, thanks for that info. BMI = Body Mass Index? (I think) But i'm not too sure what it exactly means. Is under 21 good/bad?

a BMI of 20-24/25 is healthy, and anything under that is underweight. You say she's not fat in your first post and then you say she's not slim in your second- make up your mind!

If she is 5'4, the recommended minimumweight for her is 8 stone 1lb.

    Btw I just converted and 55kg = 121lb = 8 stone 9lb. Is she 8,9 or 8,5 or 8 and a half? It's not clear from the original post.
