This has been done a few times, and in the end it always comes down to the fact you can spend upwards of 15,000 on server parts and huge lcd monitors.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,762 ✭✭✭WizZard

It's been done before. You can go all out and as krazy said, spend upwards of 15k for the "Ultimate" build.
It's very subjective too - my "ultimate" build might be much different to yours. :)

I think ditch the Watercooling and go for Phase, that would certainly add more uberness to it.

This thread in a few months will be started off with Conroe... the rest is incidental :D

The apex kit is good, but you can get better for watercooling.

    Speaking of the ultimate build....

A brand new MESH Pc came into the shop today to be repaired, The guy spent €3500 on it and it got dropped in the post, the case is all bent and the graphics cards brackets are also bent, And im still trying to get the X-Fi Working..

    Its a fairly modest setup

    FX-60
    2 7900GTXs
    ASUS A8N 32 SLI DELUXE

But, It has a cheapo 550watt psu, and 2 gigs of OCZ value ram. Ewwwww:D

He has been trying to contact MESH since Monday....

I think either the X-Fi or the PCI slot is fooked, I will have to try again on Monday, The graphics cards are ok, but they wont work in SLI??

Conzy there is an issue with the earlier X-fi Music edition cards and nForce4 chipsets. AFAIK its only on the music editions, something to do with IRQ sharing and conflicts, i think there is a firmware update to solve it. If the sound card your having problems with is Music you should look into this, could be the reason SLi isn't working too.

Thanks, But MESH took the PC back, there was something seriously wrong...

Agreed, otherwise it just a high end stock system. My opinion isnt warped because Im considering selling my R507 Modded Mach II Phase cooler.. at all. :D

Also, throw in some really hardcore drives, like 15K Atlas II SCSI drives connected to a PCI-E 128MB Cache U320 SCSI controller.

    Matt

Just throw eight 2.6ghz Dual core opterons in a Tyan board, throw in X1900XTX crossfire or Quad SLI, and that is the ultimate build

    16cores:eek:

    It can with some tweaking:D

But it cannot support more than 4gb at-all at-all

how hard is it to get it to address 4 gigs of ram?

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

    Its impossible.

You need a 64bit Processer and a 64bit Operating system to address more than 4gb of ram....

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,201 ✭✭✭KamiKazi

so an AMD x2 and windows xp 64 edition would work?

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

Yes, but why would you need more than 4gbs of ram?

    512mb isnt enough

    1gig is perfect

2gigs help some programs out a bit more

    4gig is just silly

    u damn rite

but id have a gig of video ram, so id have to keep it in proportion rite??:D

    i.e. 4 gigs of ram

  • Subscribers Posts: 6,408 ✭✭✭conzy

    Ah..............NO:D

    2gb is loads

And if you use all the DIMMs on a S939 board the Command rate drope to 2T which is a performance hit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,762 ✭✭✭WizZard

Plus some, so-called "Premium" boards have... "issues" with 4Gb RAM. :(

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 6,201 ✭✭✭KamiKazi

in fairness theres no point gettin 4 gigs of ram.
games atm wont use it all, and u would have to buy xp64.

might as well wait for vista

Wait for vista thats a bad idea. :D

4gig of ram is excessive 2 gig matched corsayer low latentancy ram a better buy.

Mabe 2 serial ata 2 drives in raid 0 (if a hard drive dies it dies but so does 1 big drive)

after that its down to what you want intel or x64

For the price of an xps ur better off building ur own. XPS are for gamers who arnt willing to do some research. Hell Komplett tell you what parts go together!

for an ultimate build i think you would be looking at 8way or more dual core opterons, all phase change cooled and oc'd, as much ram that will fit on the board, as much hdds that fit on the board, sli if available (gfx phase cooled too) and an aircooler in the case. all volt mods done and everything ocd to max

but thats just a dream build and probably wouldnt even be possible :D

I'v heard from oc forums that trying to oc quad core systems and keep them stable is like trying to ram your head ino a brick wall.

ah yeh id say so, multi chips to oc and ram would be ecc ram and not mad preformace ram so kinda hard to oc that, plus the mobos arent designed to be oc'd
