    Looking forward to it...

I wonder what the turn out will be? It's a bit expensive & I was nearly tempted not to race. But I'll be there?

I'm looking forward to it. I'm hoping to beat 1hr 40min. But I haven't raced that distance in a long long time. & now that I've said it on-line, no pressure on me to perform!

Well? How did you get on?

I did it in 1 hr 42 mins, delighted with it seeing as it was my first proper run.

Was expecting a bigger turn-out, 830 wasnt much considering there was 2,500 at the Ballycotton 10!

Ray Darcy did a decent time too.

Came in at 1 hr 36 min. Happy with that. Nice course. Some tough hills & climbs thrown in for good measure. An enjoyable if not tiring run.

I'm in training for the Edinburgh marathon in June & was having a bad few weeks. But after that race, my confidence is back & I'm re-motivated.

I was impressed by the turnout considering it was the first year. Ballycotton has been around a long time & has a big reputation. Also the price tag of €55 is alot more than Ballycotton's entry fee.

Thats a very good time - well done!

The fee was quite high alright, the run was lovely though, some nice hills alright... hope there will be a better turn-out next year.

Do you know if there are anymore 8 - 16 mile runs coming up in the area anytime soon?

Here's a list of some up coming races throughout Cork over the next month or so.

    3rd May Wednesday - Midleton AC - Midleton - 5miles

    7th May Sunday - Mallow 10 Mile Road Race - Mallow - 10miles

    10th May Wednesday - Pfizer’s BHAA - Ringaskiddy - 6miles

    17th May Wednesday - FMRC/Garda BHAA - Ringaskiddy - 5km

    1st June Thursday - John Buckley Sports BHAA - Marina - 5km

The Cork BHAA website has a list fixtures as well. Check out: http://www.corkbhaa.com/

It was a nice run on the same. Really enjoyed those scenic views while I was dying climbing up those hills. Made it worth while!

The results were supposed to be posted yesterday, and all that's up there is the first 3 in the men's and the first 3 in the ladies - there is also a really dodgy message on the website to ease poeple's concerns that the money after costs is going to charity.

They take your 50 squid and then can't even organise themselves to put the results up on the web. I paid €7 to run in a 7 miler at the weekend, about 250 people took part and the results for every entrant were up on the web yesterday. Earlier in the year I was paying €3 to run in a winter league and again all results were available on-line later that evening.

I think this is very poor form - London Marathon times and splits are available on-line a few hours after the race - what's the story? What was the €50 for?

I didn't run in the race, so feel free to tell me to shut up - but from where I'm looking I wouldn't be at the top of the queue to enter this race next year.

I think the whole idea of the run was to raise money for charity so I had no problem paying the €50, it was a bit expensive for a run though but at least the "majority" of the money is going to charity.

Why would you want to see your time on the site anyway? Do you not just look at the clock as you're crossing the line or even look at your own watch? Sorry but I dont see what the big deal is!

I suppose you could just look at your watch - each to his own.

My initial interest was sparked because the organisers felt it necessary to put the following on the homepage of thier website ...
West Cork Run would like to clarify any concerns around the proceeds of this event to charity. Co-Action are the sole beneficiary from the Bay Run.
Any profits after the running costs (Buses, Marquee, Website Development and many more ...) of running this staged event will go to CoAction

It's just my opinion but I think it looks strange, as though they are trying to defend or justify themselves, it draws attention to something that I would not even have thought about before. If the paying punters are are happy that thier money is going where they want it to go then that's all that counts really !!

Totally agree. Results have yet to go online. I'd like to know what position I came in. However I won't give out because I've my picture on the front page walking past Ray Darcy. This is the pinncle of my running career! It can't get any better after this. :D

In regard to the money, how much did they rasie for charity (Co-Action)?
    Is the figure known yet?

No mention on the site yet anyway, sent them a mail asking when the times and positions would be up...

I spoke to a mate who ran the race, who in turn was speaking to one of the organising committee wh said that they didn't realise that they would have such large entry numbers - I suppose that there are bound to be teething problems !!

From the West Cork Run website:
"We were delighted to be able to hand them a cheque for 15,500 Euros, we expect the total raised for CoAction to be higher when remaining sponsorship cards are counted."

If 680 people finished the race, each paying €50 entry fee that comes to a grand total of €34,000. If they have handed over €15,500 to charity, that leaves €18,500. I'm sure there were costs associated with the event, such as bus hire. But I can't imagine that the buses cost that much.

So somebody (or group) made a very nice profit from the event. I knew I should have gone into event management instead of engineering!
