Dumbells were invented because kettlebells were so awkward, I dont see any advantage really, just a fad if you ask me. Havn't seen them on sale in Ireland and shipping will kill you from the states.

I do a bit of kettlebell training. Mickk is right they are kind of akward. That said it causes you to to rectruit extra muscle tissue, and promotes more functional lifting. There are also some realy cool drills you can do that dumbells just aren't great for.

Unfortunately they are no suppliers in Ireland. I tried to bring them in when I worked for a fitness equipment company. No luck. That said you can get them in the Uk and at http://www.kettlebells.co.uk/

The way I did was I went over to England for training weekend and arranged them to be sent over to the hotel I was staying at. Picked them up, out them in the boot, done.

There was a kettlebell for sale in the "FS General" section of this site recently.

I personally would not buy fixed weight kettlebells as they are very dear and i'm not that sure about their advantages compared to DBs and BBs. There is undoubtedly a lot of hype surrounding them however this don't mean that they're not good!

A good compromise might be to look for an adjustable KB. Some KBs are hollow the weight is adjusted by filling with with lead shot.. Then there's ones that are like a KB handle that you load normal weight plates onto.
edit: this page might be of some interest

No offence to any of the guys here who are saying kettlebells are awkward but that is the whole point.

Kettlebells are great and HUGELY beneficial, especially in the arts, which i am assuming is your interest paddy?

Some of the kettlebell drills are simple the best things i have done in the gym.

Paddy, if you go to www.crossfit.com you should be able to find a lot of stuff about kettlebells, especially on the message boards and under the excercise section.

There are also many, many sites listed that sell gear and that may be willing to help you out on price as all these guys are pretty decent souls.

If worst comes to worst then try ironmind.com as you can get adjustable kettlebell handles from them, but as they use plates they do make some of the movements a little more awakward than ususal.

However, if you have the backing of a club budget i really can recommend kettlebells drills enough. I've seen guys who could go 12 rounds floored by kettle bell drills.
