Tesco Brown Rice and Wild Rice

    Tesco brown rice takes about 20 minutes to cook and is more sticky than other brown rice i've seen which seems to take around 40 minutes to cook and has harder bits when eating.

    My question is this, is Tesco brown rice like some "brown" breads just a died white version and not having the health benifits the longer version does?

    I also noticed Tesco does "wild rice" which is black in colour, the implication being that its super healthy, can anyone enlighten me?

    I'm trying to eat a GI diet these days and am concerned that the Tesco brown rice isn't really proper brown rice at all.

    Not sure about he rice issue, but a GI diet is academic really. If you are eating protein with your rice (and if you're not start!) then the GI is no longer valid. GI was created to measure the speed of absorbtion in an individualised situation. Mixing foods lowers GI as does the quanitities so it won't overally effect things too much.

    Thanks Boru, sets my mind at ease, will stick with the basmati so as tbh am not too fond of the brown rice.

    The brown rice has fibre though.
    This is especially neccessary for movement of the food through your system when consumed with protein+oils/fat to prevent stagnation and putrification.

    In adition to these, there are trace nutrients in Brown rice that are stripped from White rices.

    Definately, the darker a whole food is (unless burnt!), generally the denser the nutrient content of that food. I would go for the Wild Rice.

    You will have to wait a lot longer for these rices to cook, but you soon adjust to boiling the kettle and having it in the pot the minute you come in the door to compensate.
