    Hi Guys,

Can anyone recommend some herbal tea's? Im trying to reduce the amount of caffine I drink and so far all the herbal tea's Ive tried have been either nice smelling water or have overpowering tastes.

I've started drinking Jackson's Green Tea with Lemon infusion from Health Matters on Grafton St. and really like it- teh lemon gives it a nice kick. Tbh though, green tea and most herbal teas do take a bit of getting used to, I didn't like them straight away. Its one of those acquired tastes!!

I don't know much about keep fit but I have been using Rooibos or Redbush tea for years and can recommend it as a no caffeine drink which is perfectly palatable with or without milk or sugar.

If you are finding some of the teas hard to source and are not too impressed with the Twinings Herbal offerings try the lyons herbal blends.

They have three blends called Relax, Restore and Revive and come under the Lyons Well Being Teas. Each of them have a blend of herbs rather than just a single flavour. These were the ones I used to get a taste for Herbal Tea when I was trying to cut down on caffine. They are available in all leading supermarkets.

Other than that try putting a slice of lemon/lime/orange/mint leaves etc into the tea to add flavour to your "nice smelling water" it can make a huge difference.

Just to be annoying you could try making your own. Granted I come from a TCM background and depending on what I want to achieve or do I cater the tea to it, but its not that hard, and far tastier and cheaper then commercial blends.

For instance, in treating joint injuries, muscle soreness etc Ginger tea. Made form taking two slices of stem root ginger (available everywhere), boling hot water - done. (Not to be taken if evidence of heat exists on the body, ege. spots, rash etc)

Another example, need more energy - green tea and ginseng.

If you want to go commerical try the the Qi Tea range, Mahca Japanese Green Tea or Sencha (I get my formt eh base of mount Fugi - a specific blend called Fugcyho)
Oh and dont forget for weight loss Pu Err Tea. Greta stuff.

I'm going to jump on the green tea bandwagon too. I drink it pretty much every morning and it's replaced coffee entirely for me. It's refreshing enough to give you a milder version of a caffeine 'hit' without the bad bits :) . Also, the flavour is not too overpowering. I'd recommend buying it from an Asian food/health food shop, or looking for Asian brands in the supermarket, they're geneally nicer that the Twinings, Lyons etc.

Green tea with a slice of lemon does the trick for me.

Just on the point about reducing you caffine intake, an awful lot of people drink green tea to try and "cut down on" caffine, so substitute normal tea for green tea without realising that unless stated as decaf it can have as much if not more cafine than normal tea depending on how long its left to brew.......

i've won at least 20 bucks off people who were convinced their green tea had no caffine!

    http://www.abc.net.au/health/library/stories/2006/04/27/1829125.htm

i think it says something there about it.

    EDIT:
Green tea and black tea contain the same amount of caffeine, as both come from the Camellia sinensis plant.

Save ye trawling thru the page!

why not just try decaff tea?
i use the lyons one in the pink box and its just fine.
Roiboos is grand too, i love the twinings lemon and ginger tea or any peppermint tea.
pukka and qi tea brands are nice too but i just love me lyons tae!

Eastern european shops have the better herbal teas.
I like forrest fruit, cherry, Roobis and cocoa, and lemon and ginger. If it is strong tasting you could add honey and lemon.

Lipton do a lovely range of flavored green teas too in european shops.
It is called Clear Green. It is in mint, oriental spices and lemon.

If you can (it’s actually not that bad once it’s fairly hot) drink nettle tea...I swear it TOTALLY healed my ankle (ligaments)…ok it might have been a coincidence but it is very vrey good for you...

    My favourite homemade tea is:

Slice of lemon (get some of the juice out of it as well)
    Spoonful of honey
    a bit of fresh ginger
    Cinamon stick
    hot water

    Delicious

The Starbuck's 'Zen' tea is the nicest I've tasted. It's Green tea with spearmint & lemongrass.

Isn't their a Tea Shop in the IFSC Dublin where you can go and buy the tea leaves and such for making your own

They have one called Double Chocolate (I think) which is meant to be great for replacing coffee.

wu-long/oolong tea. Known for boosting metabolism, clearing skin, detox. Its a semi-fermented tea. Be sure to buy in asian supermarket though, health food stores charge triple the price

    Green tea.
    Black tea.
