Stepper in Gym

I have recently stsrted using the stepper in the gym and whilst i enjoy using it im not sure if its the best for a cardio workout. I tend to warm up for 10 mins on the bike then do 25 mins on stepper and 15 on Crosstrainer. I would prefer to do longer on CT but i have gotten kinda lazy lately.

Anyway, i dont even feel my heart flicker on the stepper which i put on a fast setting initially then doing the slow one to build muscle. Iv heard people say the stepper is supposed to be the best and harest thing to do in gym, but i disagree.

I do see results from using it the past 3 months, my ass got tighter and my legs very strong. But is it any good as a cardio machine?? Im thinking not....

    Hi Clar,

Cardio is cardio in my opinion. .just pick something that you enjoy doing..

Lets say you do half an hour on the threadmill with your heart rate at 140 bpm..

This is the essentially the same as doing half an hour on stairs, bike, rowing machine etc at the same heart rate...

If you are trying to loose weight just pick one that you like at keep your heart rate high.. but not too high!!

Personally i use the stationary bike more than anything else.. less impact on the joints

Yeah your right, my heart rate goes at 145 bpm and I dont need to loose weight so i should just stick to the stepper if i enjoy it. I just wonder if i should have my heart rate goin faster thats all by doing more on the CT or rower. I have the treadmill so i avoid it..

If you want to up your heart rate on the stepper just step harder and faster!!!

I know for me the stepper is extremely tough.. makes me sweat like there is no tomorrow

Different strokes for different folks and all that jazz.

I find the stepper easy and yet the cross trainer kills me after 5 mins no matter how determined i am. Having said that i know plenty of people who are the other way round and cant keep pace on the stepper at all. Its just one of those things... but like a previous poster has said, go with the activity you enjoy most and that you can maintain a good pace at for longest.
