It could be quite a task to get tickets for this game considering Pearse Park in Longford(where it's being played) only holds 13,000 and by the time they distribute the tickets out to the clubs, families, county baord officials, etc. there will be very little tickets left for the general public.

I will be getting my through a club just wondering when they will be released

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 992 ✭✭✭mchurl

normally requests for tickets from the clubs have to be in a little over a week before the match takes place

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,759 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Dublin clubs generally release their tickets between Wednesday and Friday of the week of the match. Be very unusual to get tickets more than a week before, although being the first game of the championship there might be scope for early allocation.

Can anyone explain to me why the GAA have chosen to have the first round match played in Pearse Park? I have it from lads in Longford, that the Longford players are raging that they aren't playing in Croke Park. I can't remember the attendence at lasts years game, but as I recall it was well in excess of the 13,000 that Pearse Park holds.

Last year Dublin played Longford in Croker, and Dublin whupped them by 19 points. I believe its a fair while since Longford had a home game in the Leinster championship. It was agreed by all sides therefore that this year's game would be played in Longford, although at the time of agreement it was thought the capacity would be 18,000.

When it came out a few weeks ago that capacity would only be 13,000, Dublin requested a change of venue to somewhere bigger such as Portlaoise. Longford refused the request so it went to the Leinster Council for adjudication. They decided it should go ahead in Pearse Park.

I'd be very surprised if any Longford player was raging about the decision. I know a number of Longford supporters who were going mental that Dublin had the "cheek" to try and get it moved away from Longford.

In fairness, just because Dublin (obviously) has more supporters than any other county, why should a team forego home advantage?

I don't think the Dubs have a problem with this, and Longford certainly shouldn't.

GAA is about the community, not just about players getting to play in Croker. If they're good enough, they'll get their day out.

Longford people deserve the opportunity to charge the Dubs €5 a pint as well ya know:p ... seriously though, it will give the town a great boost for a weekend, and that's what the GAA should be all about.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,759 ✭✭✭The Rooster

I think the Dubs owed it to their fans to at least try and get it changed when it became clear how low the capacity would be. On the face of it, it makes no sense whatsoever to be locking fans out of a first round Leinster championship game, when there are fans willing to hand out their cash to get in and there are grounds not far away that would cope with the crowds.

But against that as Culchie, Longford deserve a home game.

Do you penalise Longford just because they are playing Dublin?
Do you penalise Dublin fans just because there are more of them?

So it was a tight call and different people will have different opinions on it. I dont agree with the decision - I think Longford pulled a fast one initially by claiming a higher capacity and that it should have been moved to Portlaoise or similar - but I understand and accept it. It should be a great atmosphere in a packed Pearse Park with the majority supporting the home team, which should lead them to give a good account of themselves.

I thought Dublin fans were being allocated 7,000 tickets which is just over half?

I heard it was more around the 10,000 mark?

If the ground only holds 13000 there is no way Dublin fans are getting 10,000 tickets. I believe it is around the 5,000 mark, but I heard that from a guy who heard it from a guy if you know what I mean, not sure how reliable it is. Sounds more realistic then the other two amounts though.

I read the 7,000 figure in the paper I think but I'm not sure how reliable this source is.

The Lenister Council are taking booking for terrace tickets, 15 euro, for said match at the moment.

I am already guaranteed a ticket through my club so im happy but I can understand why some people are annoyed that its in such a small ground because many people wont get to see the game. Saying that though its only fair that Longford get to play a home game for a change. Should be a good day(and night) out in Longford. Thats the only downside to Dublin games always being in Croker, you dont get to go to these towns around Ireland and have the craic!

Bluetonic, Thanks for the heads up - got my tickets from them on Monday, by the way the number has a new code.

I expect the Dubs to annihilate Longford unless they decide to take it easy and give a few younger players a bit of Championship experience.

    hey,

Would love to go and see this game as I've family from Dublin and Longford... me being a Dub meself.

Do you think there's still a chance of me getting tickets? (I'm not a member of any club though).
Would the Leinster Branch still have some on sale? They closed for the weekend apparently...

Leinster board are out of tickets and they've gone to the county boards now.

Anyone know the best way of getting tickets now?

I really should have become a member of a club as I got to enough championship games anyway.
Would any be on sale direct from the co board HQs? Cant ring them in work :(

Any help would be very very very much appreciated!

I doubt it at this stage. With the capaity being so small there will surely be enough demand through clubs for all of the remaining tickets. Club members have to get preference.

Still its worth giving them a call just to make sure.

Whiskeyman, if you're in Dublin ring the County Board and see if there is any places left for the Parnell Park Scheme. It's renewed every 30th June. You pay €100 for terrace and I think €150 for stand tickets. You get free admission to all games under the command of the county board (includes National Leauge games when held at home) and you get guaranteed Tickets for the championship. Parnell Park Ticket holders usually get their tickets on the Wednesday before a game by turning up at PP and showing the ticket. You still have to pay for the match ticket, the bonus is that even if we get to an all-ireland final your ticket is guaranteed.

Got my ticket today as well. Should be a nice day, weather looks decent. However, dont think it'll be a cakewalk, we should be a bit rusty and they'll be up for it.

Oops sorry posted it the gaa chit chat thread already! I didn't see this one!
Dublin midfielder Ciarán Whelan has been passed fit for Sunday's Leinster SFC quarter-final against Longford at Pearse Park.

The Raheny stalwart tweaked his hamstring during a challenge match against Tipperary last week but has since returned to full training.

Whelan's shoulder has also recovered from the AC joint damage he picked up against Mayo in the National League in March. He missed the Dubs' last competitive outing - a 0-13 to 0-13 draw with Kerry on April 9.

Dublin manager Paul Caffrey will put his players through their paces at training tonight before naming his starting line-up.

Kilmacud defender Paul Griffin is available for selection after shaking off a shoulder injury. His clubmate Ray Cosgrove may have played his way into contention - he kicked an impressive 0-10 (3f) in Kilmacud's league win over Trinity Gaels on Saturday night.

Two debutants for Dubs v Longford

Dublin have named two SFC debutants in their side for Sunday’s Leinster quarter-final against Longford in Pearse Park (2.30).

St Jude’s Niall O’Shea has been named at right full-back while St Brigid’s Kevin Bonner has been selected at right half-forward.

O’Shea recently captained Jude’s to the Dublin under-21 FC ‘A’ when Jude’s defeated St Brigid’s after extra-time in the decider while Bonner is a son of former Donegal and Ulster forward Seamus.

The starting 15 includes 11 players who started against Tyrone in last August’s All-Ireland quarter-final replay defeat with O’Shea, Bonner, David Henry and Mark Vaughan coming in.

Vaughan had started in the Leinster SFC match against Wexford (June 18) after coming off the bench to kick two long-range frees against Meath in the previous round.

Henry’s last championship appearance for the Dubs was when he came on as a sub against London in Parnell Park in the 2004 (June 13) All-Ireland qualifiers.

The four players who are missing from last August’s starting replay team against Tyrone are Paddy Christie, Stephen O’Shaughnessy, Colin Moran and Jason Sherlock.

The players who were not considered for selection owing to injury were Darren Magee, Declan O’Mahony, Derek Murray, Pat Burke and Stephen O’Shaughnessy.

Dublin captain Colin Moran is named among the Dublin subs as is last summer's captain Paddy Christie.

    DUBLIN (SF v Longford) – S Cluxton; N O’Shea, B Cahill, D Henry; P Casey, C Goggins, P Griffin; C Whelan, S Ryan; K Bonner, A Brogan, B Cullen; T Quinn, C Keaney, M Vaughan. Subs: J Leonard, P Andrews, P Christie, C Moran, S Connell, D Lally, D O’Callaghan, J Sherlock, R Cosgrove, D Bastick, R McConnell, B Brogan, G Norton, D Reilly, C Prenderville.
    LONGFORD (SF) - D Sheridan; D Brady, N Farrell, E Ledwith; C Conefrey, A O’Connor, D Reilly; B McElvaney, L Keenan; T Smullen, P Barden, P Berry; D Barden, K Mulligan, B Kavanagh. Subs: G Evans, B Gilleran, S Mulligan, P Foy, J Martin, P Murtagh, D Masterson, W Murray, P Dowd, E Williams, K Smith, S McCormack.

    Team news for game

Whats the chances of getting a couple of tickets on the day down there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,528 ✭✭✭dcr22B

I'm surprised myself at the inclusion of Bonner and to a lesser extent Vaughan. I really thought that Lally had done enough to merit a start given his great performance in the league. I'm just hoping that Vaughan keeps the head like he did when he was playing against Mayo, very level headed performance given the treatment that was being dished out to him.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 992 ✭✭✭mchurl

Have to say im very surprised Pillar hasnt started Lally as i thought he had a fine league and im a big fan of him. I thought he was going to play Bonner in the full forward line and not play Vaughan at all. I just hope Vaughan steps up the plate and really delivers in teh championship. Do you all think Mossy will stay on free's? I think he should but its always good to have Vaughan in reserve.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,832 ✭✭✭Waylander

I think Mossy should take the frees unless he misses a couple in one match, then Vaughan should take over.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,759 ✭✭✭The Rooster

Mossy will certainly take the frees, although Keaney will take some from the right hand side. Vaughan will take any that we might get from outside the 45m line.

The big question is, how many misses would it take to changeover to Vaughan?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,832 ✭✭✭Waylander

Well Mossy has demonstrated in the past that when he is not on form he is awful, for free taking at least. I would hope the cut off would be fairly low myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,307 ✭✭✭cruiserweight

Although in a game where Dublin are expected to win quite easily, if they are well ahead it might make sense to allow him to continue to take frees whether or not he is putting them over or not!If he is to be Dublins free taker for the championship then why rattle his confidence?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 992 ✭✭✭mchurl

Mossy really is a confidence player and i hope he gets off to a good start against Longford so we can move ahead confidently. Vaughan is a good long range option to have but i think he is even more inconsistent than Mossy when it comes to frees. In fact I thnik Mossy is a decent free taker and hope he can show this through the Championship( all the way to the final preferably:D )

I heard a rumour today that the gardaí are not letting non-ticket holders near the town...

    Is this true?

Even if I don't get a ticket, normally - I go along to the town for the day out.

First of all they have the match in a stadium which is too small
THEN they say fans should not travel without tickets??
What the hell did they bloody have it there for then!!!

I don't see why I cant go to a town for a day out like I always do. This is getting silly now..

Ah For feck's sake, this is childish talk.

Like every other town in Ireland, there are idiots in every town.

Also, Wbailey.....I can't see how they can ban people from going to Longford without a ticket, seeing as it bang in the middle of the N5 and N4 to Castlebar and Sligo, and can't really be avoided !!

I'm not one for giving out about Dublin just for the sake of it, but the ones complainng about having an away game ...get over it.
Longford are entitled to home advantage and a gate receipt once in a while, and plenty of $$$ for the community instead of landing in Quinn's and The Red Parrott once in a while.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 718 ✭✭✭thirdmantackle

    just shows how much know...

Longford has a bypass so most traffic avoids the place
It is also a hole of a town - worst county town in Ireland
It is also quite a rough town, with a large traveller population, no real decent pubs

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,598 ✭✭✭Yavvy

im sure the dubs will out number however many travellers there are, but will that make longford a bigger hole ...doubt it.

Well we start another championship quest, I heard the dubs are 8/1 to win sam (longford about 7500/1). I actually think the dubs have a better chance of doing well this year then they will for a long time, the quality from Kerry, tyrone and Armagh wont be as good as last year. however ppl like Galway, mayo and laois have just as good a chance of being the dark horse. Im predicting that the big 3 wont win it this year.

Anywho see yas in longford ( turn right at the bif roundabout on the N4 isnt it ?)

    C'MON the DUBS !!

Well you'll find alot of Longford people will admit to the fact that there is alot of trouble in the town. I've only ever driven through Longford town but went to college with plenty of Longford people and not one of them had a good word to say about the place.

There are idiots in every town but some places have more than others. As for the game, I expect Dublin to win by 7 or 8 points, if not more.
