So its good friday....are you drinking or eating meat

Just emailed the wife in work to see what we would have for dinner, if i needed to pick anything up for dinner, she said we could get chinese tonight, I write back to say ok but I cant eat meat its good friday....

But wait this is coming from the guy who used to arrange parties on good friday with beer, i dont go to mass, I do believe, but dont practice....

Am I going soft or what? What are you guys and girls doing.

I am not drinking anyway, been off it since January.

I had some meat earlier and will probably have a few beers later. As I don't go to mass, I am not going to be hypocritical about the whole thing one day of the year by abiding by the rules.

Girlfriend is now sick of Prawn Curry cos i went on a binge of it every few days for a fortnight

Not my fault it only takes 12 minutes to cook rice, 8 for the veggies about 20 - 30 seconds to heat prawns - that's fast eating!

PS - nope, not eating meat or drinking booze today! Probably a fish supper and bottle of Coke for me. Not that i'm too bothered!

Seriously though, about this whole no beer no meat thing. I'm not really a devout (sp?) catholic, and neither are my parents so they've never forced me not to eat meat or whatever. What was it like for you as a kid? Were you forced to go to church and not eat meat on good fridays?

We go to mass, well used to as a kid and we ate fish instead of meat....beacause they are so...different... :P

I was made go to the Protestant service in my dads church followed by the neverending Good Friday mass with my mother, so it was twice the torture for me. And we always had fish (ugh) for dinner which never impressed me. I always wished we had school on Good Friday cos anything was better than 2 bloody services.

Yes to alcohol, probably no to meat.. depends where/what I do for dinner. Although I don't usually eat much meat so it's not difficult to avoid.

Well I'm just gonna mosey on down the praire a bit and yee - ha over the border into a wee place called Clady located in Co. tyrone (30 yards from the border).

I'll just sup a few vodkas with a couple of harp chasers and dont even have to worry about having to go outside to smoke.

I was halfway through my chicken soup this morning when I realised what day it was... I kept going due to the wastage of food being the greater sin. When I remember I'm not supposed to be eating meat I try not too. Drinkin tomorrow night so I think I'll handle sobriety for tonight.

I'll be doing neither but tbh, I don't find it a big deal at all. My mother fasts strictly according to the rules on Godd Friday, so the abstinence of the rest of the family usually pales in comparison to her sacrifice!
