Hi gang. Quick question for yis. Is white rice as evil as some dieticians say? I am keeping a very good diet with lots of excersise but I can't help but panic/get paranoid when I eat white rice. I'd only have it maybe twice a week and a table spoon amount. Is this ok? My goal is weightloss.

Just can't handle eating brown rice, its awful. Anyone have any ideas for jazzing up brown rice?

    Thanks

Brown rice is fine for me, much tastier than white, although it does take longer to cook properly ~ 40mins.

A table spoon amount is a small portion, If its you're only vice, its not so bad.

Yes I am eating more carbs than that. I just have 2 maybe 3 meals a week with Rice and it has to be white. The reason its only a table spoon amount is because I am paranoid about it.

if you wanted to liven up brown rice how about adding a stock cube to the water when its cooking? or stir fry it with an egg? after eating brown rice for so long I now find white rice too 'sticky' and heavy to eat- I usually put peas and corn through my rice of sometimes put raisins, peppers and a little vinagrette with it.

basmati rice has lower GI and is a more complex carbohydrate than white rice but in all honestly white rice isnt a bad food,if your eating it with meat etc then its gi is lowered as part of meal,a few tablespoons of rice is nothing ,i'd be more worried about lack of exercise excess calories and consuming sweets etc

I much prefer brown rice and can't stand the taste of white rice. I'll usually haave brown rice, cut up a chicken fillet and ad some spices to the chicken. Delish and healty!

check the labels too. roma brown rice has far less fibre than uncle bens. uncle bens do a quick(er) boil brown rice too.

It is a question of what you are used to, it took me ages to get into eating brown rice, I couldn't stand it but now, like zabbo, I find brown rice to be really tasty and much prefer it to white rice :D

Tip: Soak brown rice in water the morning or night before you are going to use it and it will cook quicker.

brown rice is comparitively "better" for you in the way it has a lower glycemic index and doesn't provoke as much of an insulin response.

but non-fried white rice isnt too bad for you. boiled or steamed tis good enough.
