It also exists across the stream in the UK too...

Ever watched Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels... although it's normally shortened to 'the dogs' now rather than 'the dogs bollocks'

€12.50 - that seems fairly cheap. Guess I'll reg a couple of my domain names with an EU extension now...I previously was only going to register one... which cost me $39 from my American host!

Does anyone know how long does the registration last for?
I can't seem to find it anywhere.

read the FAQ on the eurid site.

If for example you were able to register tesco.eu
Tesco can come along and dispute it and it will go to arbitration for resolution and I wouldn't really fancy your changes unless you had a real claim on the name.

    From the Eurid website:
Since April 7 the .eu is open for general registration. The so-called Sunrise phase when only holders of prior rights like trademarks and company names could apply for a .eu domain name has passed. It is now possible for anyone within the EU to register any available .eu domain name.
That basically means that the governments, large companies and trademark holders have had their chance to register before the public but now thats gone. Now the public can register any available domain.
It could still go to arbitration like it could with any other domain.

From last Friday it was a free for all.
The companies had something like 6 months to register
and if they didn't after that, tuff.
76 sites a SECOND were being registered on Friday!

Nope. Got the order and payment confirmation emails but nothing else.
According to the email I should receive user/pass today but nothing yet.
    They're probably swamped.

Swamped? I think disorganized is a better word. They were suppose to have those usernames/passwords issued long before the Landrush day so we could make second choices ON the day. Now it's a bit too late to get anything decent.

I will be demanding a refund...

    Likewise.

A check on www.whois.eu told me that they failed to register any of the five domains I wanted. At this stage there'll be nothing left to register.

I made two submissions for companies during the sunrise period which are fine. It seems though that certain registrars were just more succesful than others at getting their names in.

Been watching that date for months so am sick now.

I registered .EUs with them on Friday, and they were reigsered within the hour (as per EUrid WHOIS). Haven't got login details, but they are registered at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 97 ✭✭fixxation

cgarvey - I'm guessing you got the names because you registered them after 10am our time when the system might've been in 'live' mode.

shoutman, The Atheist and myself were in the queue - which appears we had no chance at all from the start... I'm really angry about not being able to make second choices on the day... I was completely able to do so with a small Estonian registrar (zone.eu) and got some decent ones on the afternoon. Now it's far, far too late...

    Dodgy registrar -
    www.euinternet.com

    Dodgy registry
    www.eurid.eu

Check out what the owner of GoDaddy has been saying about the whole matter of the other registrars taking names for themselves:

Typical EU, makes a horlicks of it :(

They could have made some of them NON transferable and
that would have stopped some of it.

Amazing the number of companies charging way more then 12.50 Euro per domain

There's no problem with registering a domain that nobody else has requested, it's that we stood no chance of getting a "generic" type name when the doors opened.

Also as fixxation notes, we still haven't been "informed" as to the failed registration which would prompt us to choose another domain.

    EDIT

Just got a mail from EU Internet giving me a login for my five unsuccessful registrations, and reiterating the "credit" policy for choosing a new domain.

I'm going to cool down before I reply, but frankly have no interest in anything available 3 days after the opening. Especially given the level of domain-speculation that appears to have occurred. What to do??

Interestingly, I see Dell went to the bother of registering "dellsucks" but didnt bother with "dellstinks". BTW there are loads of names available that one would think would be gone.

Go here http://www2.whois.eu/whois/GetDomainStatus.htm and enter your domain. See if your email address is listed in the details.

Glad now I went with GoDaddy - got the two I needed on Friday.

Good value at $14.75 each - less than e25.

Bob Parsons who owns GoDaddy let one rip on his blog.

Looks like the .eu crew ain't going to live this one down in a hurry.

Same as myself, I registered mine and the companys name, and they are now hosted under blacknight.
Just have to wait for the DNS to come around. I got my log-in details at around 6ish this evening.

I see Google and RTE had their faults. It seems RTE were late in processing their documents and someone grabbed it up. :D

Blacknight are charging €30 a domain. Feck that.

Typical of RTE but I'm surprised at Google slipping up.
