Fitness Associations / Accreditation & Employing Trainers

Hi All, I am hopefully opening a new gym in Co.Kildare in the coming months but don't know where to start to contact the Fitness Associations & Bodies to check what qualifications & certs that trainers / managers etc should have.

Basically I am the business end of this & have no fitness background per se.

I will need to employ full time & part time staff including trainers, managers etc and will probably do newspaper advertising closer to the time to find applicants. Are there any other places I could look to find qualified staff?

Any help on the staff front would be appreciated!!!

What sort of gym and to what standard? Might be able to give you a load of heavy duty second hand stuff if its that sort of place?

Thanks for the offer Mick - I have already purchased the equipment, so sorted on this front. Have a spare room / area which I am considering using for massage / beautician / physio or something so might be interested in tables / equipment for that?

Aside from that, anyone know which the main Fitness Associations / Colleges etc are?

    Thanks.

Thanks for that Transform, I will look them up on-line. Asides from National / Local papers, are there any websites or publications you would reccomend advertising job vacancies in?

While I think of it, I have a figure in mind, but if anyone can tell me what an average full Studio Manager & full time trainer's salary should be, plus the average hourly rate for part time trainers? PM if you don't want to post a figure.

    All feedback appreciated!!!

jobs.ie, Irishjobs.ie, fas.ie, monster.ie all good for advertising for staff. Will give you a good idea of what other people are paying aswell.

    @ MickK

Thanks for that, had a peek and salary seems to range from €25,000 - €40,000 for a full time Manager depending on the facility ie is there a pool etc or just a straightforward studio. Would this sound right to people?

Can anyone advise as to how the relationship works for trainers who do classes? Is it a case that you give someone a regular slot for, eg, Pilates and they get a set price per class paid to them by the gym, with the gym getting the balance of money from the members attending? Or do you rent the room to the trainer and then what he/she makes of it is theirs?

    Can go both ways.

Rental of the room works for outside instructors. They will be responsible for advertising etc and they will charge the members of your gym.

For your own instructors they don't usually charge gym members but get to keep the fees from outside members.

Or you continue to pay the instructor their hourly rate and you keep the fees of the class.

Depends on the instructor and the arrangement you both come to. Good interview question.....

    Hey Rosco99
Your best checking out the are and finding out what type of classes your clientele will require.
I ran a city centre gym for 11 years and we were very successful with our classes.
Let me know if you need any questions answered, I dont work i the field anymore but have a wealth of knowledge.
