Hows My Diet?

    Hi,
I'm going to try my hardest to keep to a routine. Need to finally lose all excess weight and want to tone up too.

How is this for a diet?

Morning: big bowl of organic porridge, with a bit of organic cornflakes and organic unsweetened alpro soya milk.

Lunch: apple, orange, 5 rice cakes,

late lunch: Old MacDonnell's Farm Live strawberry yogurt (natural pasteurised milk, strawberries, sugar, pectin, live pro biotic cultures, lacto bacillus bulgaricus, milk solids, streptococcus thermophilus, bifido bacterium longuum, lactobacillus acidophilus), 2 whole meal round pitta breads with a spread of hummus in each

Dinner: Varies but always quite healthy with vegetables and meat, never eat chips, fish fingers, waffles or any of that crap.

Supper: Kelkin Honeycrunch no added sugar muesli with a helping of organic cornflakes, a chopped up banana and organic unsweetened alpro soya milk.

1.5 litres of water throughout the day.

Will also be starting to take Spirulina, hair skin and nails vitamins with zinc and flax seed oil.

I have an underactive thyroid and take eltroxin every day, for the rest of my life if that makes a difference to anything above?

Is there anything above I should replace with something else? Is that enough food in a day or too much?

I don't drink alcohol at all, I don't smoke, this is basically what my body intakes every day. I could stick to this every day easily enough.

    Would appreciate any feedback:)

to be able to tell if its too much/ little you need to post up age, height, current weight. what's you activity level like?

at first glance your diet is low in protein, fruit, veg and has a bit too much processed carbs in it (just coz something is organic doesn't make it good!! ;) ) Eating cereal before bed is never really a fantastic idea, you should be opting for something protein based. Is there any reason why you have to take a suplelement for your flax oil supply? what about salmon, mackerel, tuna, nuts, seeds or omega-3 eggs? nuts are also high in zinc- in fact its much more advisable to obtain zinc from foodstuffs as zinc can be quite harmful if taken in excess.

And needless to say check the stickies at the top of the page to check if you're questions have already been answered there.. which they kinda have!!!

    Hi,
I've had a brief look at the stickies but would like more personal advice:)

I'm 5/11 (6ft with shoes;)), I'm 22 in July and I weigh 14 stone currently. I should weight about 12 stone I think. I'm not as active as I plan on being. I want to start jogging every morning and playing more football. I plan on going to Spain for about 2 months in the summer so that should be a time to concentrate on being more active!

I forgot to mention that I do actually take nuts and all that too. My local health shop have big bags of mixed fruit and nuts, almonds, pecan, peanuts, dried banana, pineapple, raisins, dates etc.

I was simply recommended flax seed oil, no real reason to start taking it. Although my joints crack quite a lot.

So from the above, what would you change in my diet, what would you add in and take away?

Are tinned salmon/tuna as good as fresh health wise?

    Thanks for the feedback:)

Yes one big problem - you are eating for the weight that you currently weight NOT the weight you want to be!!!

You are simply eating too much e.g. supper - cut it out and have a herbal tea, do not eat so many nuts, 2 pitta pockets - cut to one, no rice cakes as they have a massive GI. I could go on but just like most women (sorry i assume you are female) you are eating mans portions.

This is coming from someone who works with clinets on a one to one basis for at least 23hrs of training per week so i do not make the above points lightly.

So basically you need to cut down and start very slowly

Finally - leave food on your plate at every meal as this will get you out of the whole 'finish your food' mentality.

Hope thats more specific for you otherwise pm me

Thanks for the reply, but I am actually a guy. Do I have a feminine diet?:D

Does this change what you said to me now?

You're right about the "finish your food mentality" though, I hate to waste food, and what's worse is, if somebody else wont finish theirs, I'll finish it for them. I have a few other bad habits, I gorge out some times too, which is a bit of a problem, there was cake in the house yesterday, had much more than my fair share:o

Interesting points, but do they still apply because I'm male?

Bump... I've been told I need to change and cut down, but not sure what exactly I should change and what I should cut out and add to my diet:o

Mate, I didn't cut down my intake at all, I just changed the times I ate and slept. So eating less is not a good idea, you will not lose weight if you eat less, you will only do damage. The best thing you are doing at the moment is drinking lots of water. I can only give you advice which I experienced myself.

I was in the same boat as yourself, needed to lose excess weight and what not. I cut out all sweets crisps and other fatty foods (which I didn't eat much of anyway) and I started the gym, drank alot of water and switched certain things, like instead of white bread I now eat brown.

I don't think leaving food on your plate is a good idea either. Leave it if your not hungry anymore, but for no other reason.

Taking part in an active sport or the gym is a huge part in losing weight. Increase your excercise and in about 2 weeks you will notice the differance. Also, about what time would you go to bed at and get up at in the morning? Would you lead a stress free life?

I'm always wary of hair, skin and nail formula's. Check for excess Vitamin E. I read an article on the BBC news website that indicates that excessive vitamin E intake can cause premature death. :(

    Hi, thanks for the replies.

Khannie, I don't actually see any Vitamin E in the ingredients. It's Solgar Skin, Nails and Hair Forumula!

Unfortunatley I don't live a stress free life:( I go to college and run poker.ie with just my brother. Were trying to build poker.ie up from the €100 each it took to start the company and since then, 3 years ago, we haven't been able to take a wage from it, we just put everything it makes, back into it and more. This puts me under terrible financial pressure, I don't have time to get a part time job either. Luckily I don't smoke or drink and have no addictions so it makes managing that much easier.

I have terrible sleeping patterns, I never go to bed before 11 and could stay up on average, till about 1 on college nights and later at weekends and holidays (6 last night, 7 the night before, 2 parties). I also find it very hard to get back to sleep once I wake up. Theres just so much that has to be done. I've also a very busy mind, as well as poker.ie, I've sooo many other ideas that I'm thinking of doing, setting up business after college etc etc. And losing weight is one of my main agendas too. The fact I've so much other than college means I'm lagging behind with college work and this puts more pressure on me. I've about 3 weeks to finnish a lot of work:(

One thing though, I'm planning on going away to Spain for about 2 months at the start of July. So I'm thinking, with the nice weather and the freedom and no college weighing me down and no bad influences food wise coming into the house, I'll be able to make a go at it and try my best then. I want to know what I should be eating though, I don't want to be trying my best if I'm eating the wrong food. I have to get it all right. I haven't even started taking my vitamins and spirulina, I bought a load of stuff and I'm waiting till I have time to get into a proper routine.

I'd love to have a better idea of what exactly I should eat and would appreciate any help I can get:)

there are about 1000000 different views on how to lose weight main way is carbs in less then carbs out! thats the bi rule! if you dont do that you wont lose weight! make sure to eat at least every 3 hours! try to get a protein source as your last bit of food before bed! u should get more protein in diet full stop! things like tune in brine or whatever! fish is in general a good choice! unless covered in oil or something!
