Classic Car & Vintage Show at Dromod Train Station (Co Leitrim) on Sun 7th May. Was very good last last year, only got there too late.:o Into the bargain, they do train rides from there, plus you can look at the projects they're restoring plus what must be the 2nd largest collection of buses in Ireland, plus some Airplanes (or pieces of some) which are being kept there (including the RTE outside broadcast unit which broadcast the Pope's visit in '79). Lots for all restoration nuts!!

The Irish Vintage Society's all Ireland Day is being hosted at Moynalty this year. Its a fanatstic show, was there last year and as well as a large selection of cars and tractors, there was field of corn so they could have working demonstrations of old farm machinery.

The 2006 All Ireland Citroën rally is being held in Carlingford Co. Louth on the 1st and 2nd of July. Apparently, this will be the largest Citroën rally to date on this island, so should be worth a visit.

All types of Citroën are welcome, even C5s :D . There's never enough 2cvs or GSs at these meets, if you have one please bring it along. If you don't have a Citroën but are interested in the marque, this would be an excellent opportunity to get a good close look at or drive in some of the most interesting cars ever made.

PM me if you want details of accomodation, routes, etc. or if you're interested in doing a convoy from Dublin.

As far as I know there's a small fee for entrants to the drive, and there's definitely a cover for the meal on Saturday night.

    7th May

    Classic Military Vehicle Show
    The Curragh
    Co. Kildare

Apparently this show, organised by The Military Vehicle Club Of Ireland and sponsored by a UK classic military vehicle mag, is to be larger than previous shows and will also include re-enactments of battle scenes.

    UPDATE 7-5-06

I attended the show today and there was a good selection of ex-military vehicles on show - c.50 I would reckon.
There were also several stalls displaying/selling military kit, etc and there was a large crowd attending.

Sadly, most of the privately-owned vehicles were ex-British Army as, until recently, Irish Army vehicles were scrapped or exported when retired from active service.

Good to see the Air Corps there with one of their new EC-135 helis!

    Guys,

Do any of you own classics. If you do then read on. This Sunday 7th May I am organising a get together. The idea is to get together at the Spawell Car park on the Tallaght Bypass at 11.45 in the morning. We will then go for a spin out to Blessington at noon and stop off for a beverage in Ballymore Eustace, returning to the Spawell for approx 14:00. There are already a number of people interested in coming along and I plan to make this a regular excursion every second Sunday from different starting points. The next run will be on 28th May starting from the Playwright on Newtownpark Avenue Blackrock at noon.

The idea is to get people out driving their classics. Nothing fancy, just an opportunity to meet like minded people and get out and drive the cars.

I'll post more details of later runs if you guys are interested. As I said above, this is for everyone who appreciates or drives classic cars. Just come along for the craic and take some time out to enjoy your classic and chat to others of a similar breed!!

If you need further details then email me at phelanpa@eircom.net.

    Hope to see you there.

    Paul.

There is a military vehicle show in Dungarvan (I think?) in June. Don't know exact dates at the mo. Supposedly it's going to be a big show.

Get those old skool retro Fords, etc to Limerick on June 4th for the largest classic car show in Munster............

Also largest performance VW show in Ireland.............since ' 92..........

Where? Mungret GAA grounds , on N69 just few miles from Limerick city centre.....

airnwater. I want to go to a car show in June sometime. Do you have any more info on that one.

When you say performance VW are talking about a maxxers heaven type show? I'm bringing my dad and he wouldn't be impressed!

That show is held in Mungret Gaa grounds, big area, VWs mainly Golfs at one end and non VW in the other, great turn out 2 years ago when the weather was good, rained last year , you get a bit of boom boom music but mainly the overpowering smell of polish, those VW guys love waxing those Golfs:D

    Anyone from here going?

Will go if the weather looks reasonable... though I missed my annual Celbridge drenching this year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 291 ✭✭Paul (MN)

How many real classics go to it. I'm not interested in attending a mostly maxxers heaven event.

It's highly likely that I will go if it's decent. I might be down that way anyway

@ 8~) what date is Kilbeggan? That would be ideal for me if it is 2 weeks from now.

Just checked on midlands site, the Kilbeggan Vintage show is on the 28th May, next Sunday. I assume the same place as the yank show, I'll be heading up. weather permitting.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,568 ✭✭✭Blue850

Mungret show is about 1/3 VW 2/3 other classics, heading to Kilbeggan, great show last year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,568 ✭✭✭Blue850

Anyone going to kilbeggan this weekend?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭8~)

Weather permitting, yes. 850, you exibiting or spectating? Spectator myself though will likely have the w123 in the carpark.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 291 ✭✭Paul (MN)

Undecided if I'll make it to Kilbeggan. I was going to combine it with a trip I had to make to Roscommon but that's been cancelled :(

    Weather looks OK!

Blue850, Paul (MN), 8~) and anybody else interested ... What about meeting and go together in a little convoy to Kilbeggan?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 291 ✭✭Paul (MN)

    Andreas,

If I end up going I would like to talk to you about your veggie oil conversion (it is you that has done it isn't it?).
On that note, you should pay to exhibit your car and stick a big Lidl veggie oil canister on the bonnet. I'm sure you'll get lots of questions.

I'm not driving anything of note at the moment.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 586 ✭✭✭8~)

I'd be on for a mini-meet at the show.
Not so sure about the convoy idea though, unless you're all coming in from the west.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,568 ✭✭✭Blue850

I'm heading from Galway, hoping to get there before 12.00

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,084 ✭✭✭dubtom

I'll be coming from Dublin, wouldn't mind meeting somewhere and driving up together, rather it was earlyish though, 10/10.30.Reguarding showing the car, is it not the same as the yank show, presenters get in free.Woudn't mind paying a few bob if it's for a good cause though.
Looking forward to this, first show this year, Yahoo.

............the novelty of talking to everybody in the entire Country about your car wears off after the first hour or so !

Then you get home and realise that the only car you've seen at the show...................is you own !

Ahhhhh I'm just being cynical since i wont be exhibiting at ANY show this year !

But if anyone does see our Mercedes Club flag/Tent etc please do come over and say hello, I'll be at most of the shows anyway !

Just to recap on dates Mosney June 11th, Terenure July 9th and Trim is July16th !

Can we all agree on a funny walk we do or something, to recognise each other!

I guess we could make an announcement over the PA for boards.ie members. It would be alot more interesting than the 50,000 announcements about an umbrella that had been found, at last years event (or was that Trim?)

Regarding meeting in Kilbeggan; who's going, who actually wants to meet and what time does the event start (i.e. when are people arriving). I'm relatively local so normally amble in at whatever time suits me. I haven't a car entered so will park in the public car fiel.. park unless there's a great desire to see an old Mercedes estate in the show, in which case, how do I enter it?

Do we arrange a meet, funny walk optional, or not?

...........there's no place for cruelty on this forum !

The truth about my car is that as I get older and grow more handsome I had to ensure that my car kept up with me and didn't let the side down !! ;)

8~), I am now going and am on for meeting you, or a group.

I think you should enter the Merc. There are always 123's on show and people would be interested in the 7 seater.

I thought I could find MercMad by finding the white Pagoda with only one sun visor... but now I'll need a bit more help.

I would also like to see your 220D Andreas.
