What is the significance of the Donnnybrook Tesco? Does it have some magic power that prevents you from turning into a warewolf in the full moon as long as you stay within range of it?

There is no Tesco in Donnybrook. Also, you'll be frozen solid on this picnic!

Why not leave earlier and get the Dart out to Howth instead.

Deer Park would be a nice location.

It's gonna be a suprise. Gonna on night out at instead of goong for a Ediie rocketsof abbraskabbra. I'll have a totally Random Idea "wink wink Nudge nudge" to go for lovely a picnic on the beach. So we stop off in Tesco and pick up all our provisions, and she is "hopefully" totally enchanted

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 524 ✭✭✭Lisapeep

No, there isn't a Tesco in Donnybrook. You must be thinking about Tesco in the Merrion Shopping Centre, that's a stone's throw from UCD!

What on earth is an ecout chatolic? Maybe you should try to brush up on your communication skills before trying to "enchant" this girl!

Sandymount Strand? Or, if you really want to be spontaneous, hail a taxi and head somewhere further away

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Let us not forget the sheer volume of insects the heat and light will attract. It's hard to convince anyone to take their top off when they can barely see you for the moths.

A better idea would be if you had everything stashed somewhere and laid out nicely.. instead of bringing her with you to get the stuff. It makes it seem.. slightly less romantic.

Make sure you have candles of some sort. Hopefully (though you'd be lucky if you get this any time soon) a sky full of stars.

Looks like I cant get a friggin brake. We were gonna go forthe picknick last Thurs after babysambles. I thought it would be a great Idea with all the bars being closed. Doherty never bothered showing up. The Gig was resheduled for tonight and now it's been cancelled. Iam nmeeting this chick at 1930 and havent a cluw what to do. She's going to be seriously dissapointed when she finds out, its not on.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,082 ✭✭✭lostexpectation

ah thats terrible, was she a fan or are you introducing her to the shambles?

might have been better to pick a more reliable band for your big date

Wich of course took me completely by surprise. Go to UGC, Stringfellows and Traffic. Not a bad Idea. Any thought on how to top it

    She's not worth it, and she's a skank...dump her

so she turns up dead late and isnt properly dressed- she obviously isnt that bothered to make an effort for you yet you have spent the last week or so planning a picnic and romantic evening for her? bit of a waste.....find a chick who might appreciate it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,638 ✭✭✭Iago

Firstly you're trying too hard, secondly to be sponteanous means having no forward planning, thirdly if if doesn't come to you without asking the help of annonymous people on the interweb thingy it's going to fall flat on it's face anyway.

In terms of her being underdressed, I've no idea what that means, possibly that she was wearing a skirt and a light top, but then she was planning on being in a concert hall at a gig where it was going to be very warm and clammy all night so it's hardly a surprise that she wasn't wrapped up in her winter best. As for her being late, that's a female thing, either learn to accept it or stop seeing women.

90 minutes is a little excessive though, you could also use the hotness meter, wait 10 minutes after the appointed time for each point she scores on a 1-10 ranking in terms of what you're looking for. Me, I don't have time for those games, so I'll accept it once but I'd raise it as an issue and hopefully resolve it then and there.

So look if you want to impress/have a good date/day with her this is what I recommend...

Forget the picnic, we don't have the weather or the scenery for it in Dublin. Arrange to meet her early some day when you're both free, if the weather is good go and sit in a park somewhere and chat. Bring her to a nice place for lunch and then try and catch a film in the afternoon (either rom-com or regular comedy, something light hearted, whichever SHE prefers) after the movie go for a drink in a popular but quiet bar, discuss the film (this means you have to pay attention to the movie!) what you liked or disliked, ideally compare it to similar films you may have seen/heard of before (this shows you have the same type of interests) when you go for a drink, you drink at her pace, not yours. You don't want to be drunk and you don't want her to feel rushed. Mention that you have dinner planned, so it's probably best to drink something light and refreshing rather than pints/glasses of beer.

After the drink back to your place for dinner, if you're getting wine try and get a bottle you know or have tried before (nothing kills a mood more than wine that doesn't go with the meal or is too acrid/flat for the taste buds, if you don't know wine, generally Chilean Red is quite nice while South african white tends to be easier on the stomach (mass generalisation I know, and a lot more thought should go into it but cest la vie)) I'd recommend cooking something light, maybe even a pasta dish of some sort. In which case if you're having red wine with a bologanise/meatball/mince type dish put a couple of drops of the wine in with the sauce.

During dinner chat about her and her life, what's new, what's big in her life right now etc. After dinner maybe have some baileys and ice ready to sip, while you relax and finish off the evening.

This could be overkill though :D

How hot is she? On a scale of 1 to 10.

Considering she was 90 fooking minutes late, I'd organise a date where it won't matter a **** if she's late and where you can corner her into a lay! Or more likely tell you to fook off or at worst call the guards!
    Either way, you'll get closure!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,915 ✭✭✭Siogfinsceal

yeah Iago is on the right track. Stop trying to plan everthing from the sounds of it its early days with this girl so you dont want to put her off by trying too hard. Just have a laugh go for a few drinks, see a film , see where the night takes you.
A male friend recently took a girl to a dance class at one of the dance academys in dublin and said it was great fun

Dumped her last night. Finally realised I was been taken for a fool. 45 minutes later the first night 90 minutes the second. So here's what I did. Booked a dinner in the Unicorn for 10. Told her it was for 1900 and that I'd meet her in Hartigans b4 hand. I didn’t show up till 10 on the dot. Go down to unicorn where we wait another 20 minutes for dinner. I order about a hundred euro's worth of food and drink. Tell her it's not working out and leave her with the bill. The other night she showed up in Hooker boots, hot pants , a boob tube and cowboy hat

I think that was appropriate attire for a babyshambles gig!! sides if she was hot why would you mind her wearing that ?

Is that a good idea? You may want to warn her beforehand to wrap up warm, considering the weather at the moment. Unless you're going to use that as a cunning excuse to cling to her like a limpet.

Edit: Eh, just read the last few posts...

I dont like beingtaken for a fool. She showed up in unicorn wearing pretty much the same, she wouldnt be the sharpest tool in the box either and i actually ened up waiting for over two hours the privios night
