    Hi all,
I want to get fit again but am limited in what i can do.

I had a serious accident about 3 years ago,was touch and go on whether id lose my leg or not.
After 6 weeks in hospital my leg survived but sometimes i wish i lost it and got a prosthesis [spelling],atleast then id be pain free,i did lose the big toe from that leg however.
My leg was badly crushed and during reconstruction operations they had to insert metal in places where not normally used.
They also had to insert metal at differing angles to normal procedures.
This is what is contributing to my pain so long after the accident.
It looks set to continue as they have stated that the metal will not be removed because i have poor circulation after the crush injuryand therefore with poor circulation bones healing when metal is removed is somewhat dodgy :(

To cut a long story short i cant walk very far without pain, even with pain killers.
I have gone to a gym but the only real exercise i could do was the excercise bike,it was relatively pain free compared to others.
The gym in general was too painfull to continue so im back to square one.
    Swimming also is extremely painfull.

I doubt i will ever get as fit as i was pre accident when i played rugby on weekends plus indoor soccer midweek and was pretty fit.
Obviously ive gained weight since the accident and short of going on one of these crazy diets, excercise is the best option i feel.

Im thinking of getting an excercise bike and hoping i can stay pain free to an extent that i can use it to lose the weight ive gained, not neccessarily super fit again.
Any advice on maybe a bike program or indeed a decent bike to purchase would be appreciated.
Its amazing the change to your life an accident that took only seconds can cause.

    Thanks in advance.

Also most gyms have bikes that have a handcycle aspect to it, or pure handcycle mahines with these you can get a half decent arm cardio workout out. Also stationary rowing may also be benefical. Supplement this with a weights workout and arm work and you will have a have decent workout.

Ok i got a bike with legs and hand cycle setup.
Seems to give a good workout, well it builds up a sweat and gets the heart pumping :)
Any tips on timeframe i should excercise for, times per day etc?
Its still painfull for me but nowhere near as painfull as other things ive tried.
    Thanks to all for replying.

As with everything else in this world you only get what you put in. So try and push yourself on it.
I only use a handle cycle one, as it is one of the only decent arm only cardio machine and is good for when you are resting the lower body, the one you will use will give a better overall workout. Your best bet would be do one long low intensity workou on it a week and then another where you do a shorter high intensity. so warm up and then do a 30 second sprint then 45-60 at a slow pace then 30 second at a high resistance level and another 60 second rest and then chop and change giving yourself longer rest when needed.
The main advantage for you using this machine is that you can use it as a part bike for a full body workout however if you knee acts up you can just stop cycling but can continue with the upper body cardio
