I don't deny it, adam. However; first friday of the month is friday next week, yet for a lot of folks, pay day be this friday and therefore those of us born stupid have to ask. Besides which, the whole "first friday of the month" thing should have a huge rider reading "except when people don't feel like it, or there's a compelling reason to have it on a different day, or even if its just that none of us could be arsed".

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭Blitzkrieger

I should (hopefully) get a pay *raise the day before so I'll definitely be up for celebrating.......as if I need an excuse.

    *Don't get excited - it's probably 3%

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 4,757 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tree

Well, speaking for myself - helloooo - I think I'm going to the pub tomorrow night, and this old body isn't able to do two nights in a row any more.

Hahaha, yet you think you adequately handle one night in the pub? :P Besides which, I'm off paintballing on saturday morning and still want to go drinking on friday, so you've no excuse.

Ah now adam, when have you ever known me to be bitter about anything? ;)

    so cad é an verdict?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,107 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

Personally I say booze on friday, preferably with adam dragged along whether he likes it or not, the big jessie. Now, the only question is where and when. I'd favour a later start for a change, but then I'm hardly someone who should be listened to when it comes to arranging times & places...

How about the Slate? I've been in there a few times lately, and I quite like the new look

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭Blitzkrieger

That the old Bar Rumba? Are you talking about Friday the 31st or Friday the 7th?

    Who's tick now? :o

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

One can only presume Friday the 7th; given that it's the first Friday of the month. Feckin tick bastids!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭Blitzkrieger

But then Adam started talking about going out Thursday night and, and, and.....my head hurts :(

I just remembered - we were in the Slate the last BBC, weren't we? :o

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 16,659 ✭✭✭✭dahamsta

Ignore that Adam fella, he hasn't a clue.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 4,757 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tree

apparently not. perhaps we should buy him a calendar and educate him

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,107 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

Nah, I say we go for more forceful forms of education like kicking him in the nadgers repeatedly until he gets it right.

So, Friday the 7th. The Slate. What time suits folks?

    Mmmm, nadgers.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 4,757 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tree

    post ten for me!

we can deep fry your nadgers for ya if you want em that way

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 4,757 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tree

given that i doubt the slate will be the venue for the whole night (or i'd hope it wont be anyway), would someone like to take my number so i dont get lost?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭Blitzkrieger

I'll be the first to make an excuse and slink off this time :(

I won a ticket to a poker competition last night so I'm going to be in the Casino instead. I might still make it if I'm knocked out early enough, but first prize is probably about €14,000 so I'm understandably torn between beer and lots and lots of money.

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 16,659 ✭✭✭✭dahamsta

I'm not going unless at least three other people will be out before 7pm, and will be staying out until we're all thoroughly drunk.

    There, I've said it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

I wouldn't be able to make it till about 8.

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,107 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

I'll be finished work at 5, so allowing for a quick shower and bite to eat I can be there about 6ish, though I don't think we should stay at the Slate all that long.

Can't promise to get too hammered though, I've knackered my knee last saturday and may be on medication depending on what the doc says tomorrow morning...plus I've already spent a horrific amount of money this month.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 4,757 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tree

ill get ahpilly hammered but i wont be out til after ten and i have to find someone to come w/

so considering you have at least one person who will be hammered adn another out at six, you're halfway to your demands

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,518 ✭✭✭✭dudara

I can be there for sometime around 6-6.30pm, but won't be getting hammered. That's so passé, dahling

But, but, but....trends involve well lit bars with expensive drinks and a dress code. Whereas being passe just involves getting demented in some dingy backalley bar that smells of vomit. (Guess which I prefer? Plus people let me in automatically wherever there's a smell of vomit, whereas when there's a dress code my only hope is that they laugh and let me past).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 451 ✭✭LilMrsDahamsta

I'm working in Galway tomorrow, as par usual. I'll be back about 11.30pm but I won't really be in the mood for drinking at that stage. So that's a definite no then. Maybe next month again.

and passé is much more affordable

An excellent point considering the state of my wallet lately :(

Where's this damned Slate place? Do young people go there?

Between the state of my wallet and my liver a quietish night would be a great idea.

And the slate is by the quad. Isn't it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,518 ✭✭✭✭dudara

Indeed, it was formerly Bar Rhumba. I think its quite nice inside. One of the better changes in the Cork pub scene of late.

So are we on for at least a drink or two this evening?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

I'm still planning on coming in for a few pints. Might be able to make it a bit earlier than 8 but probably not by much. Are we still talking about the Slate?

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 16,659 ✭✭✭✭dahamsta

Right, I'm going to the pub. See you losers later.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

Finished earlier than expected today so just about to follow you in :)

How are we all today then?

I just got my hair done, and got a head massage while getting my hair shampooed... that felt so good after last night

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,107 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

    *yawn*

I only really got up a couple of hours ago, and still haven't really woken up. Gonna lounge around for the day, methinks. Last night was fun though, we have to do it again soon. I say we should all go see Ice Age 2 at the Gate sometime. We could maybe get food beforehand? (Alternatively we could go to the pub beforehand, but knowing us, especially when adam's around, we wouldn't make it to the cinema so that's probably a bad idea..)

On another note : Hehehehe, "she-wee"!

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 16,659 ✭✭✭✭dahamsta

LOL. What was that about again?

Apparently all the bloggers are meeting tonight in Reidy's. So stay away from Reidy's unless you want to catch blogging.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

I'm still asleep... That sounds like a good idea Fysh. Did ye stay on much longer last night?

  • Moderators, Arts Moderators, Regional Abroad Moderators Posts: 11,107 Mod ✭✭✭✭Fysh

Ken & dudara left a while after you did; I had good intentions of going home by about 12:30 but ended up staying out till closing, then drinking until about 4 at my place with some friends.

So, what's the concensus on Ice Age 2? This week is awkward what with, you know, Easter and stuff. Thursday onwards is out for me due to family stuff. We could do wednesday night, I suppose - the film's on at 9, so we could meet for food beforehand and possibly pints afterwards?

What say ye, yay or nay?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,780 ✭✭✭JohnK

I actually ended up seeing it last night but I'd go again if there's a group of us going.

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 4,757 Mod ✭✭✭✭Tree

ooooooh cinema! ahvent been in weeks. what time would ye be thinkin of?

OK, wednesday cinema dealie is for the Gate's 9 o'clock showing of Ice Age 2.

I reckon we may as well meet up beforehand (between 7:30 and 8:00) and go for food/coffee/beers, in that order of preference. Which throws up the question of where to go. Unless anyone has any fantastic suggestions, I say Le Cheile because it's next door.

What's the preference for the pre-film aperitif: food, coffee or beer?
