As I am in early stages of play (level 5) I have pretty bad weapons, fine steel bow and silver longsword.

So I would like this thread to be about good weapons and where ya found them.

Fine steel bow: Pick pocketed from a Bruma guard.

Silver longsword: Also robbed in a Barracks in Bruma.

So if anyone has some decent weaponary please let us know.

Yeah I saw those they're across from the damaged akavira(sp?) shield aren't they

Level 3 - fine iron longsword and iron bow. Yay! I hear that this game is different to morrowind in that you cant just wander into an area and nick really powerful weapons then leg it, you have to be an appropriate level for them?

Yeah I fear you are right, I did a mission the other day and all the guy who i had to kill dropped was claymore and crap armor but I watched my friend doing the mission and they guy dropped a glass longsword and was wearing Mithril armor.

The only difference was that my friend was a much higher level than me. I am really pissed to hear this news. It has sickened me really as finding tasty loot is one of my favourite things to do. Now they have taken that away from me.

Yeah I don't mind spending the lock picks as security is going up and there's a nice bit of loot in it, will try that so this evening. I opend a very hard chest the other day and there was nothing in it but crap

    Yes, its' kinda.... strange.

When your a low level most NPC's has basic stuff, like you really, some a little highier, some a little lower. (I found a goblin with a steel shield yesterday and I'm only level 2.)

As you level up everyone gets better gear. So ordinary bandits, goblins and Dremora start to posess Ebony, Glass, dredirc items.... stuff that was super rare in Morrowind seems to be mass produced in Cyrodiil. If you go back to Morrowind there may well be a "Made in Cyrodiil" sticker somewhere on your suit of Dredric armor!

I nabbed an Elven Longbow from some random vampire leader in some random dungeon. It was almost like "WHO ARE YOU!? What are you doing here? Why have you slain all my vampiric brethren!?" and all I could think of was "I was passing by and decided to drop in..."

I just learned soul trap, which isn't all that impressive, but im a ninja with mysticism not favoured and finally I can begin collecting souls! Although now ive gotta go do the mage quests so I can put them to use.

12 I think. I was one less when I got the bow. I was freaked out when he got me near death with 3 or four hits.

Whoa! You all must be so good at security! Pickpocketing a guard!

I hate my char. I want to be destruction mage/thief/assassin.

The one decent weapon drop that I know of regardless of level is Umbra. It's a mission you get given by the Clavicus Vile shrine, you have to be at a high level to be given the quest in the first place....BUT you don't need to start the quest in order to get the weapon (I was at level 15 and wasn't high enough, not sure what you needed). Anyway, head to Vandisel, it's a ruin that can be reached by taking a left as you walk off the imperial bridge and keep heading along the coast, it's about 100 feet in from the water, maybe a mile down the road (It's the second one you'll see AFAIR). Watchout for the traps and you will eventually find a single humanoid on a lower floor, she is INCREDIBLY hard to beat toe-to-toe soooooo sneak down and hop onto the broken pillar (If you do it right you actually hop into the broken section) then pepper her with arrows until she's toast. You will need a lot of ammo (Took about 60 Elven arrows from an Elven bow as Master Marksman (I think my rating was 10dmg per shot). She drops an excellent unique sword and armour (ie. they are not random'd and relative to level). (Also remember your blade damage will be relative to your Blade skill so it will increase as you do, still it's a good 50% above any other sword I can use at the same level).

Anybody know if the katanas in the blades barracks respawn ever ? (I thought they'd make a good source of quick gold :o )

Jeez dunno. Might check that out tonight. Nice one.

I use the Akavri Dai-Katana (2 handed) i got when i joined the Blades. You get all their gear free. Most of it has no value but is pretty decent like the armour.. but the swords are worth a lot of money.. I then enchanted it:
I used the stone thingy i got when closing the Kvatch (spelling??) Obvlivion gate. It gives shock damage.. kicks ass at low level. I also used another oblivion gate stone to fortify health on one a locket or ring or something

Umbra is great, definitely get that. I use it in combination with my mage staff, means I'm constantly topped up on magic on my weapons (mmm souls).
She's not really that hard 1-on-1, I've seen a few people say that but I didn't get into a blade fight (melee) with her, I used a lot of magic and she folded like a squishy pancake (well, after a few tries ;) ).

The sigil stones are very handy. One of them gave me 30% cameleon effect (constant).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,099 ✭✭✭✭WhiteWashMan

to be honest, i spent about 5 days (thats real time here, not game time) trying to find flowers to get back intot he mages guild tht i lost track of everything else i was doing.

i do however now have an exceedingly complete mapo of the world with pretty much every dungeon and ruin on it :)
but it means that ive got to level 11 without doing much of any quests except the fighters ones.

no idea how to join the blades, havent murdered anyone yet, and have only just got the mages staff, and have only just closed the first gate at kvatch. havent even found jeoffrey yet.

less fluffying around eamo, get some quests done!

by the way, you do start to get some kick arse weapons and armour as you go higher.

but does anyone have any spoilers as to how to get plenty of cash? i seem to be constantly on zero!

Well, it isn't much but for newbies on the game.
in the mages guild in chorrol, there are loads of alchemy stuff you can take and sell for 30 to the guy in the mages guild, do this after you have joined. lol, so it isnt illegal, you should get around 300 gold, not much but a help

lol, not really a spoiler but i wanted to look important. :D

Indeedy. I didn't bother keeping magical weapons for quite a while as they just needed too much maintenance. But Umbra+Azura's star = unlimited magical resupply :).

    come again please?

did you say unlimited magical resupply??? do tell...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

    Azura's Star is
    a rechargeable soul gem

I posted details here (on where to get it):
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=51145645&postcount=29

    Umbra is
a sword with magic enchant that does soul trap, I'd have to check my map later to see where you start the quest, but IIRC it's close enough to the imperial city, south from weyn (sp?) perhaps. Will check later

I'm currently using sufferthorn, which is an elven dagger with some nice enchantments, not as powerful as the longswords but can swing it loads before fatigue reaches zero

Your lack of dedication to the way of the bow is upsetting young assassin...

Both blade and marksman are major skills, glass bow at the moment as I haven't done any main story missions as I don't want oblivion gates open everywhere when I am trying to enjoy thieves guild (which i finished last night, final mission for the thieves guild was class) and Dark brotherhood.

My sneak and acrobatics are what are keeping me alive as the old wood elf isn't the greatest in up close combat.

I can turn enemies into pin cushions in dark rooms cos they have no clue i am there, especially useful for wraiths as I hate fightin them up close.

Poisoned arrows are my favourite implement of death

you know, i was going to post and ask some questions, but i got a pdf copy of the hints and tips manual.
why dont i just read that eh?
    :)

at 700 meg, its certainly a large download!

My biggest problem is cash flow and empty magical weapons. With the magic in the weapons I'm lethal but without I just get worn down if there are more than one enemy.

The cash flow problem I tackle by stealing a lot but I've started to wear out the shops so now I have to go to the castles for the good stuff which are littered with guards and hence take ages to time their patrol patterns etc. Time consuming stuff. :(

Also - whats the main advantage to a house? Is it just for a free bed and somewhere safe to stash belongings or is there more advantages? Can't justify the 5000 needed for the cheapest one!

well if you finish any of the TG and the MG missions you get a room of your own so no need for a house really as they are very expensive. My gold isn't the greatest either and I have finished the TG I thought I would be minted after it.

Also find azuras star and get soultrap for your weapons problems

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,304 ✭✭✭✭koneko

There's no real need for a house, but it's nice if you have a lot of money and it's cool to have your "own place". There is a house in Anvil (I think) that is haunted, if you complete the quest and get rid of the ghosties you can buy it for 4000gold IIRC.

You get free beds in the guilds you join anyway.

Empty magical weapons is easily solved, I'm constantly topped up nowadays. Money isn't much of an object, I have around 30,000 gold. My character can't carry that much weight so I'm always leaving behind nice weapons in dungeons, so I could be a lot richer but I don't need to be.

If you finish the arena you can make some nice cash, as grand champion you do weekly matches. I pick the highest option (3 minotaur lords) and make a nice bit of cash that way. If you're stuck for cash, and your sneaking is high, just pickpocket people while they're sleeping and take their cash (the imperial city is great for robbing people).

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

I pickpoket and rob houses constantly and its just massively time consuming for only about 100g per house on average. Although I'll be a heavy armour expert very soon which will help a lot as then the equipped stuff weighs half so I can carry a lot more weapons and ****.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭Blowfish

Yeah, i've managed to become master at heavy armour, so it doesn't weigh anything, plus i found gauntlets with feather of 125. and my strength is 100, so i can carry 625. Its great, i carry about 6 different weapons, used for different situations, and still have loads of room to spare

Anyone found any "Boots of Blinding Speed" type items yet? Do they exist, I wonder...

    I don't think they do :(
Luckily running is pretty fast in the game anyway.

no boots, but found an amulet with speed +20, athletics +20 and acrobatics +20, that helped

Yeah thats true but i still havent found anything that does more damage than my daedric claymore, enchanted with one of the sigil stones.
31 base dmg, +30 damage health

well both weapons i mentioned would do more damage in sneak mode than your weapon ever could cos its a two handed weapon you get no attack modifier.

With a chameleon(sp?) spell and the reward for the thieves guild you wouldn't stand a chance

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,371 ✭✭✭✭Zillah

Claymore shmaymore. A daedric longsword at x6 damage outclasses anything.

I like the daggers and shortswords cos they look more lethal than brute force and ya can swing em all day.

A player versus player multiplayer would be so class for this game, I find the combat quite good so playing real people would be awesome

Wouldn't work without significant changes. For example, theres no visual difference between 1% chameleon and invisible. Also, how do you decide if one person has "seen" another, and therefor is immune to a damage multiplier?

Ok i've spent a lot of time thinking about the sneaking aspect of a multiplayer Oblivion (10 minutes) and have come up with the following concept design. I just have a lot of essays I don't wanna write.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 18,115 ✭✭✭✭ShiverinEskimo

What you've just drawn out is the basic focus and nimbus concept of gaming. Your focus being the area that you can see and your nimbus being the 'personal bubble' of the object. When a person's focus (A) intercepts an object's nimbus (B) the computer registers this as A can now see B - and renders B on A's screen.

For sneak all you would need to do is reduce the size of someone's nimbus to a pin point so that you would have to be looking straight at the perfect point for the computer to render that object - your sneak skill would dictate the size of your nimbus - low sneak, bigger nimbus, high sneak, smaller nimbus. This method was used for the stealth/invisible ****ers in FEAR to my knowledge.

Don't be absurd. We'd sneak around not seeing each other until one got lucky and managed to spot the other.

Then you'd make the mistake of trying to knife me and you'd get a poisoned arrow in the face :)
