Go to your Control Panel (bottom left of box that says Welcome, <username>).

On the left click Edit Options.

Scroll down to Date and Time Options, about 2/3 of the way down.

Select GMT as your timezone and 'DST corrections always on' in the drop down.

    Save.

Wallah, boards shows the right times.

Why dont we just put it half an hour forward and leave it like that?

Would save a whole lot of confusion.

    IIRC

Clocks go back at this time of year over there. When we were there last October there was a 2 hour time swing when they went forward in Oz but back up here for winter time.

    Confused Yet?

The idea behind the clocks going forward in summer time was first concieved in order to give working class Britons a better quality of life. It first became policy during world war one.

From then up until 1972 Britain (and I assume Ireland) operated on GMT+1hour in the winter and GMT+2hours in the summer. Meaning that the hours we have as summertime now were the winter time hours and the summer was another hour ahead of current summertime.

Personally I wish they'd go back to that system as in the last 4 years I have moved from Limerick to Dublin, and then to London and each move has shaved around 20-25 minutes of daylight off my evenings and I want it back!

That's a stupid way to remember it, because Spring back and Fall forward also makes sense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

its just a ryhming thing to help remember, like the one about the months,

??? But it doesn't rhyme. And saying it the exact opposite way makes exactly the same amount of sense. My point being, it's a dumb way of remembering it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

ok its a saying, a sayimg that helps people, why is it dumb? because it doesn't make sence to you? that doesn't make it dumb, if some people want to use it let them

It's dumb, because if you say it the EXACT opposite way: i.e. Spring Back, Fall Forward, - that phrase still makes sense, but it doesn't help you remember which way the clocks go, because it's wrong. I've explained it 3 times now (a simple concept, disected as much as possible) - so if you don't understand now, there's little hope...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,953 ✭✭✭blu_sonic

but to some people it makes sence because its embedded into their psyche they know the saying, there are saying for everything to help remember. You think its dumb ok fair enough i don't if you don't understand it well then there is little hope...

Again, but in coherent English please. Try pasting your post into MS WORD, then hit F7. Then paste it back in here when done. Thanks. Appreciated. I'll reply to your point when I can understand it.
