Gym contract cancellation

Hi. I joined a local gym about 3 months ago and signed up to a 12 month contract. I started a new job a few weeks ago and unfortunately have very little time to attend. I'm only paying €40 a month, but it's complete waste of money if I only get to use the pool once every couple of weeks.

Does anybody have any ideas on how I can get out of the contract?

    Thanks.

Just cancel the Direct DEbit and let that be the end of it. No Bother!

Did it myself, worst case is they ring you up after their request for payment is rejected and moan at you. No one is going to try sue for breach of contract on an amount so small.

can you sell things like this if it's not possible to do a simple cancellation?

If you sign up for a 12 month contract you must honour it unless for reason in the contract which allow an "out"
On a contract of this value it is of now economical value to chase people for cancelling the DD and hence breach of contract....
Hmmm 7, 8 months what ever x 40e / month versus solicitor and legal fees to recoup.
    No brainer!

If I do cancel the DD and break my contract, is there any chance of my name being blacklisted with a debt collection agencey?

Post up the contract and I'll find some flaw in it... if you scan it I'll find something. (Law student here...)

My guess is you'd have some way of pleading:
Frustration, some express or implied term you could use the facilities or something along these lines.

    What age are you?

Most gyms are flexible for people who are moving away from the location of the gym, say you move 10 miles plus away. why don't you just get a letter from your employer saying that you will be going to a different branch for a few months have to live somewhere else or get a letter from another source saying that you are leaving the country etc

Here's a copy of the contract I signed.

It says in the contract that you can cancel for no reason if you just give one months notice in writing if you are really worried bout the credit rating ect.

A gym can never have any effect on your credit history. Debt collection agencies have no powers, and aren't consulted as part of the lending process by any financial institutions.
