Just looking at the other forums, and a lot of them have their beers, or greet and grubs, art exhibition visits (hopefully). Has this forum ever gotten together to go out taking photos? Even if it were just around Dublin at night to give safety in numbers.

If it's been tried and didn't work etc, sorry, but just thought I'd ask!

...and by Dublin you mean Galway, right?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,819 ✭✭✭rymus

and by Galway you mean Cork, yeah?

No seriously though, I made a stab at organising a meet with the folks on flickr some time ago. Pity it pissed rain... I'd be all for taking a spin up to the likes of Galway or Clare some weekend to take a few shots and have a pint or two. Who so ever wants to organise such an event, go for it.

True, Dublin wouldn't be as interesting as a day trip to someplace like Galway!

Well, if anyone else that's interested posted here, and gave any ideas, and we could chop and chose from there!

Yeah sounds great... or maybe a daytrip to Glendalough, beautiful place as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Actually I was just thinking that! Was on a college trip there myself last Monday, bad weather though. It ended up being €12 each for 34 people to hire a bus but I'm sure we could organise some other way of getting people out there.

I hereby nominate you, Fajitas, to organise the event. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Lol...Right. If yer interested, post up here, same if you have an idea for where we could go.

So far we have Glendalough, Galway(?), anywhere else?

Even a day in the Burren would be quite nice. Obviously we'd have to wait until the weather gets...a bit better than it is!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Actually before this goes any further...How many people would be interested in it?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,763 ✭✭✭Fenster

    I would.

I need to go to bed now, for that matter. Bleh.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,297 ✭✭✭joolsveer

I would probably be interested too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Well, it'd be on a date that would suit those interested hopefully, and someplace that's somewhat accessible, and interesting. That's why I'm gonna try get as many suggestions as possible so we can see what'd suit best! :)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 297 ✭✭zag

I'd be interested too. Glendalough maybe. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to photography, hope there will be a few degree students or something to help me ;)

Sounds interesting alright. Anywhere along the West Coast suits me really. The Burren is good.

If anyone is interested in a trip to Trim over the summer I will organise it.

Trim has the castle and lots of ruins close together, There is certainly enough here for a full days shoot without too much trekking. I'd be able to organise a deal with the castle and a bit of grub too. Oh and there's a few grand watering holes.

Someone remind me in about 6 to 8 weeks!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 709 ✭✭✭Dimy

Sounds cool, never been to Trim :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,624 ✭✭✭✭Fajitas!

Trim does sound quite interesting actually...Anyone else up for there?

As above... Although a friend of mine works for a car rental company so I can get a car for a week-end for cheap! Or a van if needs be! :D

Any chance of a lift...? Am willing to pay petrol costs (and rental if it's not too expensive...!)

    Many thanks!

Where's Trim and is it accessible by those of us who use public transport?

Won't be too expensive, trust me! :D

If there is, let's say, 5 of us going in a car it would cost €20-25 each max

Trim is in Co. Meath, East coast, close to Dublin (i.e. far from Galway :o)

Were only 28 miles from O'Commell St. There is a nice hostel here, reasonably priced. Bus leaves Busaras every hour most days and can be picked up as it goes out the Navan Rd. €3.50 a pint which should save a few of you Dubs that frequent the upmarket joints. Good music on a Friday night in my local so it could be a good weekend. A good way to unwind after the week.

The natives are a bit wild (most have emigrated from Dublin) but sure that will only add to the challenge!

Just a thought: There is a festival on in the middle of June of old farming practices and haymaking. Lots of charachters, unusual aniamals, machinery. Outdoor drama etc. That might be an idea. Plenty of photo ops on the day.

I'll check the date and let ye know.

Would be intrested in some outings in and around dublin..

    Seb.

And for those of you in Dublin... check out the mini-meet rescheduled thread if you're interested to join. Again, this will be depending on the weather conditions upcoming weekend.

Maybe if a few of us get to the zoo ,we could decide on something bigger like this thread.

I really don't mind giving lifts,if people are stuck.

Maybe after the zoo ,we would have a better idea of how to organize bigger meetings.

    As i said i drive, I have a van and a car.
The van is handy because i can use my tripod in the rain without getting the camera wet.

Just thought i would add ,if it gets to the stage that we are organizing lifts we could do a full coastal day of dublin .

Starting at greystones and stopping at every town until we get to howth.

Theres a great day in the summer where hundreds of sailing boats are out and dun laoghaire is alive with colours and people.

I was wondering about going to the burren ,or the cliffs of moher but it seems so distant from dublin . Does anyone know if its more than a day trip?

it'd be a long trip, not long for pic taking anyway. count me in for some of these trips, hopefully by summer i'll be working, get some decent zoom lenses, much of the ideas thrown around seem zoom orintated and i'm lacking that area :(

I'm just back from walking from O'Connell St to Howth, and back... I'm bloody wrecked...I just hope my photos are alright...

    So so tired...

Oups! I thought this thread was to organise a proper Photography Expedition! I didn't know it was a "Canon n00b only" outing! :p

@ Mod: Could you please rename thread accordingly? hehehe

We'll meet in the field. Well it's not really a field, it just has less rocks than the others.

    I'm interested.

Right, we'll try get this going sooner rather than later...

How is a trip to Trim then?

There's a decent bus service by the looks of things, and it has a fair few ruins, scenery etc.

Would a weekend suit most people best?

Don't worry about your equipment. I'll be using a lot of wide angle anyways! Any equipment you have should do you really, and if you have a Nikon or Canon etc, I'm sure someone wouldn't mind sharing a lens with you! If you have a Canon I'll have no bothers sharing anyways. If the trip went anything like the Zoo, it'll be a bit of craic with people with the same interests, and it's good for picking up tips and techniques!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 709 ✭✭✭Dimy

Yeah what he said :) Was good craic yesterday, we were only three this time so would be even better if there's some more people for the next round. And I'm sure that people would be willing to share lenses so don't worry about that. I'm looking forward to future meetings! :D
