Come on its nearly three weeks before, you have to take a break for one night. Its on a friday as well, how much do we ever really study on a saturday anyway?
sixty is a bit dear though but i heard trinity is eighty or something?

How long have they been on sale/when are they going on sale/how many are left

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,010 ✭✭✭besty

Hmmmm, to go or not to go. Either that or Trinity Ball to be honest.

    *Prepares for backlash*

See now Im all paranoid and jumping to the wild conclusion - baseless I know, that Fernando is a shill account.

    I'd go for Trinners too...

Besides, as has already been stated, this is far to close to my final exams.
Sod that for a game of soldiers.

Well if you want a good tie be prepared to pay the price.

As I have no one to go to this ball with I am now accepting offers from any females who wish to go with me. (Bring money)

Im gonna be going I guess but I think 60 euro to get dressed up and not even have a meal is a bit of a rip off to be honest

I was there last year and to be honest, it wasnt great! Couldnt get a drink or get to a toilet (well there were portaloos, but they had no locks so they just swung open and there weren't enough!). A good night out but not the greatest! Also I haven't heard great things about the line-up this year!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 753 ✭✭✭Font22

Well thankfully I wont have to buy a tie as I'm a girl! Problem sorted!

UCD ball all the way people! Ocean Colour Scene are headlining the Trinity Ball and as good as they are Bell x1 are better!
Plus its my birthday four days later so it can be a bit of a celebration!

I would go but I have to fly out to Montreal the early the morning after :(

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 546 ✭✭✭Easygainer

60 smacks of a rip off without the overheads of a meal or renting a hotel. In final year too so I reckon noone from year will be there...

I also question the wisdom of having a formal blacktie occassion outdoors in a field in April! And would anyone be refused entry if they wore 'normal' clothes instead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,885 ✭✭✭Stabshauptmann

its more of a concert than a ball

just checked back in now, funny people think im Anto kelly.
i know him but Im not him.
I think the reason the ticket is so high is because its more of a big concert on campus, i mean you dont get to see that many bands when you go the ****ing eng ball do ya?
    its UCD's first Im goin!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,016 ✭✭✭Blush_01

I'm not paying €60 to see Bell X1 when they'll be playing here in a few months for a fraction of that. No sirree Bob. Especially not if I have to wear a dress!

Get a real headliner (I love Bell X1, but they're just Bell X1 after all) and then we'll talk.

Anyone know if The Blizzards are playing?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,186 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

probably too close to finals but wouldn't mind going, last hurrah.
can always leave trinity ball until next year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 209 ✭✭pimpy_c

If there's going to be no food then how will it cost so much? At the eng ball the ticket was 60 euro but citywest charged around 40 euro per person for the meal. Where is my 60euro going at the UCD Ball? Is it going to Bell X1? Or is it going to Anto Kellys enormously large back pocket in order to pay off all his debt?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,551 ✭✭✭panda100

After much deliberationIve decided definatly not to go to the UCD ball.Has anyone brought tickets?
What swung it for me was the fact that anto Kelly needed to pose beside Rossanna Davidson,Roz Lispett and two other girls tarted up in their ball gowns in that picture in the college tribune.I appreciate that sex sells but this just pissed me off-it wasnt a shoot for the evening herald it should be to entice us students to go and considering that the majority of people in UCD are girls could they not have put two fit blokes in for us girls too. That picture just mega pissed me off cos it was just selling the Ball to guys, does no one in ents care about us girls?? Thank God for Holly Irvine next year

This from someone opposed to the woman's officer because women don't need this representation:rolleyes:

I am opposed to the womens officer because it further stigmatises the gender gap between males and females not because of the unequal representation of women.

So you want women to win, but you don't want a gaurenteed voice? (I disagree with the position and hopefully the amendment gets past)

    anyway.................
not a chance im paying 60 quid i am thinkin im goin to try and get in for free somehow!! jump the fence somehow

i've heard the whole thing is selling atrociously. ents are desperate to get rid of tickets.

its a bit sad really, students have been demanding a ball for years, and when one comes along (with a line up easily comporable to Trinity ball standards), noone goes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭dajaffa

60 squids is a bit steep when there's only one big act. I'm not a fan of this multiples stages lark either. Pump the money into getting a good line-up for one stage, and stick on a couple of djs somewhere else butI saw the timetable. A few of the decent support bands are on at the same time as Bellx1 which is a wreck the head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,186 ✭✭✭✭Sangre

Thing is 2 weeks before my and most people's finals. Terrible time to have it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,470 ✭✭✭Mr_Roger_Bongos

Spiraling costs e.g. Ticket, Tux, Drink on the night - have forced me to improvise. Im thinkin, a few cans and sitting/hiding near the bushes/trees to eitherside of the car park and enjoyin the sound of bell X1 through the tent!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,578 ✭✭✭Scraggs

ok I've an idea not sure how viable it is though....

    Darams house anyone???

it is a good idea but 60 quid is too much and its too close to exams!! they should have the likes of this is september when no one has **** all to worry about exam wise

being down there myself, unfortunatly I dont think theres and door inside the venue

I don't think 60 is overly steep but it isn't cheap either, the main hidden cost is in the dresswear. The lineup wouldn't be all to my tastes but it is a decent lineup by all standards. I think the timing of the ball could be a little earlier but it is an end of year ball afterall.

In summary something along these lines would probably make it a big success.

    - Cut down to 2 stages and have a DJ set (It's not Glastonbury!)
    - Get rid of formal wear and bring in casual wear (Gigging in a tux? A needless cost)
    - Have it first week back after easter break (A month before summer exams)
    - Charge 50 euro (Similar linep to this year, economical enough for students)

and you should have a highly successful UCD Ball.

I'd love to see the future kings of spain but other then that i don't think anyone good is playing. No way would i pay €60 to go.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,151 ✭✭✭beanyb

Seems like they arent selling at all well, especially now that they're bringing in that you can put down a deposit for tickets.

My friend bought a ticket during the week, and it was number 60 or something, so if they've been sold starting at one... it doesnt look good!

I'm not going, cant afford it with the saving i'm trying to do for canada. and it is too close to the exams really.

    jesus thats pretty bad

although i doubt that's the case. I suppose the ball has to start somewhere

I can't believe that. 60 tickets sold out of 5,000 would probably bankrupt the union! I reckon they're struggling but I have no doubt there has been far more sold than that amount. Simply IMO the ents office has tried to make the ball too big too soon. The ball is only in its infancy and they should be trying to gradually establish it. Maybe lessons will be learned for next year but I still hope it will turn out to be a success.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

tbh I doubt they're being sold in strict numerical order!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 44 gliondar

Oh man..... just realised I don't know a single person who's going to the UCD Ball and I know loads of people. a total liquidation of the union when after a reasonably successful year the Ents Officer manages to cripple the Union in one foul blow..... not the first time

wait till Thursday evening and Friday morning when they come into the bar and start trying to flog tickets for a fiver to try and get people to go........

Then the people who paid 60 will feel like twits. Its happened before in UCD, the last Freshers' Ball on campus years ago the nearly bankrupted the union.

Bottom line, students just don't care. The mob is fickle.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 44 gliondar

I wonder.... from a damage limitation point of view, how much it would cost to just cancel it?
How much does it cost to run and where is the break even point? How much do all thosebands and stages cost? I'm hoping the Ball is being run on a worst case scenario plan of action

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 839 ✭✭✭zap

guys tickets sales are well well above 60 and were the very first day they went on sale.

Yea I can def see that happening.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 839 ✭✭✭zap

lads that's never going to happen, tickets for a 5iver not a chance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

Maybe not at a fiver, but still not full price.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

Nope... very much doubt it. Nearly 2500 sold at this stage, and loads more will only go to get them in the days coming up to it.
