wait. some guy who came to this country to earn more money feels the need to insult us? asshole.
also, the poles are known for their love of vodka. pot kettle.

Sod off back to Poland Aleksy is what I think about that.

Have a weather station?, why not join the Ireland Weather Network - http://irelandweather.eu/

I don't think so. You don't need a special day to have fun, and that's cool.
But that's only what I think.

Maybe. From my own experience working with two Polish lads over the summer I can tell you they (Polish ppl) are fairly religious and hard workers.

When we would all finish up for the day and go for a few jars they wouldn't be having any of it and would go straight home. That was the image I got off them at least. Maybe just not a drinking race.

Cheeky baxtard, tell him to fup off back to Polishland.

Read that again. He's right. It is pathetic. What is it the makes you want to lose self control?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,563 ✭✭✭leeroybrown

I'm afraid I have to agree. I'll be relaxing and enjoying the day but I'll be keeping away from the regimented drunkeness.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

It's gonna be cold so I'll need a few drinks to keep me warm.

    because it's fun?
i know that i'll enjoy sitting in the pub tomorrow with my friends and catching up with what has been going on in their world. don't get to see them all that much as they have all moved to other towns and work and other stuff gets in the way.
tomorrow we can all get together, get drunk and have fun. i don't see anything pathetic about that. it's like christmas in march.

he's somewhat right but incredibly arrogant to say that. it's like you or me going to america to earn a better wage and saying thanksgiving is a waste of time

not every1 is like that- ive never gotten that drunk... but he assumed all irish people were going to do that, ud swear id walked in to work with my skirt up my hole and a bottle of JD in my hand they way he was going on.

Funny, Poles are hard workers, but they're hard drinkers too. He was probably annoyed at something else.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,389 ✭✭✭✭Saruman

Ehh the guy is Polish, english is not his first language.. hell he maybe even meant it as a joke :D

Relax... Its interesting how because someone who is not Irish insulted what some idiots do on paddys day people see fit to go off at him because he is Polish!

Polish people are heavy drinkers.. but for the most part they handle it better! My wife lived in Prague for a year and went to a party where everyone was pissed. The Polish people there were lashing back the Vodka but not falling everywhere or puking... next morning they were up at 9 or so cooking everyone breakfast... everyone else.. major hangovers...

He is right.. some irish people just love to have an excuse to waste paddys day getting so drunk they cant remember it.

Well, all the polish students that came here last year claimed that they were a great drinking race (that polish were amoung the three most notorious nationalities for getting drunk). These students would often go through bottles of vodka and beer on "party nights".

Anyway I plan on having a few jars, but wont get plastered (cant do a ceili drunk :) )

Ireland is the one of the few countries that celebrates their national day. America has July 4th, we have Paddies day. Bring it I say :)

If people feel like unwinding and getting drunk well thats fine by me. As long as they dont go causing mayhem wheres the problem. work hard play hard if you so will. just cause in Poland they do one thing dont mean we cant do another. different races different values. ive worked with alot of poles and they are nice people but I would label them a bit boring perhaps. doesnt mean im i think they should go out and develop a personality. what they do is their own business. so i say if you want to go out and get pissed tomorrow go ahead, dont decide against it just cause polish people wouldnt be impressed.

i hope ur not assuming that im being racist- i mentioned he was polish just to let u know it was someone who didnt see the day as we do and i know for a fact hes bearly in the country 2 months so who is he to moan about us- just because he has had God shoved up his ass from birth doesnt mean he can look down on us

Sorry but its how i feel- each to their own i say- just dont critizise others beliefs/drinking when your on their soil

I don't think his nationality is important. He was probably just pissed off. Maybe some Irish people treat him bad at work so he's pissed off with Irish people and jsut let it out? It happens when you're a minority. Still, it wasn't right of him either. I wouldn't of given him a stern talking to.

To answer your question - We're not pathetic. I'm not going to feel guilty for enjoying myself on Patrick's day. I'm going to enjoy myself and if anyone has anything to say about it, f*ck em.

Calm down lads.... the guy didn't say St Patricks day was a waste of time, he didn't say there was anything wrong with having fun and enjoying yourselves tomorrow, he said that he finds it pathetic that we look forward to getting so drunk that we can't stand. For the record, I would consider that to be an opinion or an observation, not an insult, and I would also have to agree fully with him.

What ever.... I celebrate being Irish.... I'm working tomorrow and Saturday, It'd be intresting to see how many people try, and probably succeed to get get me out drinking.

Stick his head in the watercooler damnit! If people want to celebrate their St.Paddys day drinking until they cannae drink no more thats fine. Are Polish people not harder drinkers than Irish anyway?

I mentioned that i was getting "off my head"
not every1 is like that- ive never gotten that drunk... but he assumed

Everyone has the right to get drunk, and fall around a bit. But you can see how an outsider could see the "blacking out/puking all over templebar" drunk as a bit sad, when what he's used to is having a few vodkas and a singsong. I suppose it all comes down to what effect you have on others, get as drunk as you want by all means, but don't be a lout.

But then again my Polish isn't great, so he could have meant something completely different.

No, his nationality is certainly not important. It's an absolutely distusting thing for anyone to say. It's akin to saying something along the lines "All you Africans are just looking forward for a chance to rob someone blind, you're pathetic."

    Displicable tbh.

In no other city but Dublin can you be guranteed to see pools of vomit all over the streets on a Saturday morning.

Hes an EU citizen. Hes entitled to moan about you. Hes paying plenty of taxes to moan, unlike the tons of illegal Irish in NYC who badmouth the US time and time again while in the US.

And by the way, the Irish who are over here for Paddys day are proving the old national stereotype to be true.

Plus Polish people tend to be very hard workers.

Blatant Untruths. Just because we're all a bit tired you thought you'd throw that little fact/lie out there. Are you under some illusion that the Irish invented the art of puking and out of the 5 or 6 billion worldwide its only a small island of 4 million or so inhabitants that participate in this pasttime. Follow the links to prove your point to be a sham.Warning links may contain puke.

nobody in poland has even been sick on the street from drinking too much.
those poles are saints. they've never done anything wrong and there are no illegal polish immigrants in NYC.
no polish person in america has ever complained about america either.
and Dublin is the only city in the world where people get sick on the streets.

the french are cowards. the mexicans are lazy. the brits are toothless. the italians are sleazy. the germans are nazis. the dutch are stoners. the australians are eaten daily by dingo's.
every culture is stereotyped in some way or another. stop being upset because some asshole who's been here for 2 months thinks we are all drunks whose only reason for living is to get hammered drunk on the 17th of march.
as for the rest of you who are ashamed of how the majority of Irish people live their lives, deal with it. this is the country you were born in. celebrate your culture instead of crying every time someone does something that might make Ireland look bad to the rest of the world. count your blessings that you were born in one of the worlds richest countries and not in some war torn, famine ravaged, poverty stricken hell hole. you people make me sick. most of you have probably never even seen what goes on outside of the tourist areas of the countries you have visited.

Not to the same extent. In Dublin the vomit on the streets is disgusting. The level of drunkness is disgusting.

What the polish guy said - that is how the world perceives you. Like it or change it.

julep - dont talk to me like that. Your using abusive language and its not called for.

Are you drunk by any wild chance?

Go to any Polish bar and tell me what they are known for?
Alot of Polish people are nice, honest hard workers,This
guy who made this comment about the Irish is very much
in the minority of Polish,as most Polish I have met love
St.Paddys! for the same reason alot of irish do!
Ever see the Polish newspaper and see how they refer
to Ireland as "Living Hell" sometimes? This sometimes
annoys me as surely coming here they have Improved their
lifes and if not they are free to leave if they hate it so much,
again a small minority! But still it can be a little annoying!

Have to agree with Polish dude...getting wasted one day of the year solely because its paddies day is pathetic. I think he should've bit his toungue though and think it was awful arogant of him to say it. But picture it from his point of view or any forigners point of view, most of them are in Ireland to make a better living for themselves and prob wouldn't go out as often as us Paddies (cause they're sending money home or whatever). But they'll go out for Pddies Day cause of the parade and to see some ceoil and craic and what do they see? Drunken debauchery, teenagers vomiting on the streets, adults having a go at each other, its disgraceful, something like 800 people were arrested last year do think that number of people are arrested on Australia Day in Oz? or the same number of arrests on July 4th for the Yanks? No theres not! Because they are patriotic nations and they celebrate graciously not like our nation of hooligans. Its sick and I wish I wasn't in Ireland today, I'd much prefer to be in another country where the paddies band together and celebrate thier heritage with patriotic enthusiasm.

To the OP, you are the reason I won't be going into Dublin to celebrate, you are the reason I will stay in tonight and probably will end up watching the Late, late or some other such sh!te. Thanks!

Oh and by the way have any of you seen the ad campaign by diagio, "Does your drinking affect their thinking?" It obviously does and its no wonder we as a nation have been pigeon holed as p!ss heads! Thanks for that also!
