Speed stats on every page now. Feedback?

As part of our investigation into finding out if/why we have a speed issue, we've put speed stats at the bottom of almost every page.

If you get a slowdown, when the page comes down can you copy and paste the speed stats here. It looks likes this:

Obviously we need to know the time you took the reading at too..

We're also looking to see if the time it says it took to generate the page is vastly different from the perceived time it took from start to finish, as this is an important stat too, can you tell us how long you thought the page took to load (as a guesstimate).

Finally as a control, can a few people who ARENT experiencing particularly slow response post their speed stats as controls on the whole thing...

If you ARE having intermittent speed issues can you keep an eye on the stats to see if they correlate to the times when you have a slowdown?

remember, this isnt a test of how fast it was delivered to you, its a measure of how fast the server compiled the various results into one html page. At that stage the measurement stops and then the page is delivered to you. This gives us a differential between the actual time the server took to do stuff and the variance between different ISPs and connections etc...

I'm going to try disabling sigs and see if that helps.

/edit - it could also be stats.big-boards.com; I'm not sure how to check these things conclusivly.

Could it be a skin issue? My pages seem to consistently take only 10 queries, whereas everyone else's take 11. I'm on Cloud skin. That said, I have noticed speed issues in the past.

ok, this is all good stuff. I would seem we *are* having internal speed lags, probably mysql blockages, but also there seems to be external connectivity issues with some users, as some people are seeing generation speeds of 1sec yet still taking 30 seconds to display the page.

This is all grist to the mill and good data. Thanks guys.

I suggest the inclusion of whether sig's are turned to on/off when reporting slow down, as I personally think this is what contributes to the perceived slowdown (i.e. When it's not a page generation issue).
