Hoping to have another one on the 22nd in UCD, waiting on confirmation from Larry whether or not we get the room. That date probaly doesn't suit, does it?

I've put in a room booking, requesting the same room we had last time, so hopefully...
Also, we were pretty much agreed on going for the 4th saturday of each month for meetups, for the sake of consistency and regularity. Hopefully we'll be able to find somewhere other than UCD to go to soon enough.

    got the room
unfortunately it's not the same room

J109 Arts building (same building, but will definitely require more signposts this time....)
    Saturday 22nd, 2pm
Maybe make a sticky for "Linux meetups" instead of "1st....."
or possibly just rename the thread???
I'll do up a better map, and give it to jaqian for the website

I think it would probably be worthwhile to start a new thread for each meeting, perhaps with the sticky changed to a locked thread giving general information (like the website url). Fingers crossed I make it tomorrow and see you all there.

right - there 3 people who turned up, should we go for it this saturday, or wait till next month. hmm... maybe I'll start a poll......

I might not be able to make it next saturday
maybe next month, but make a bigger noise about it

    BIG NOISE

not big enough, may have to resort to ascii art.

So finally will there be a meeting this Saturday? I'd be interested in coming along if there is one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭jaqian

Whats happening with Dublin LUG? Have ppl lost interest in it already? There is very little talk going on about it and the last meeting only three ppl showed (ok I admit I was absent too). I thought the first meeting was a great success but after getting that off the ground all the energy/excitement seems to have disappeared.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭Blowfish

Right well I was one of the three, and I'll definitely be up for more.

I was at the first meeting, but couldn't attend the second.
jagian, why not call a meeting for the fourth saturday of this month (May 27th), see what the response is here, and if there's much/any interest, let's go ahead and have the meeting. If there's little or no interest or if five or less show at a meeting, then I think we can say DubLug is dead, R.I.P. :)

I was just in the local pub near me in Churchtown last night and I'm able to get the function room upstairs in it for free, its a nice size and would suit perfectly for a meet up if you guys want.

The pub is called the Glenside and is located on landscape road.

Let me know if you guys want and I can book it.

The Glenside is a great size. I was at meetings there years back
for a Classic Bike owners club, and there was plenty room.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 998 ✭✭✭zekiel

one things I meant to say its free from monday to friday.. sat + sun would probably cost a few quid... I think its about €150.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭jaqian

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 998 ✭✭✭zekiel

How about a Thursday evening... 7pm till 11pm? first thursday of every month perhaps?

Sorry to interfere with your discussions, but I'm from the other side of the country and will never be able to make it to UCD...

I have a genuine/strong interest in Linux and would love to be a part of LUG but cant attend the meetings. What do I do? Can I get involved in any way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,724 ✭✭✭jaqian

Hi nevf unfortunately our LUG didn't get off the ground. We had two meetings and fizzled out :(

Try and find others in your area that are interested and get together. Post in these forums for ppl in your area to try and meet up etc. Good luck.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,919 ✭✭✭Bob the Builder

    that's a shame...it was such a good idea...

Well, there's plenty of people I can find in my area that are interested and I'm have someone that would help me find people...

Good luck with that. I think if you start with a small core of ppl and determine what direction and focus you want the group to take before expanding.
