Ok....a multi billion euro company and you cant even send a f*cken text off their web-site because the server is down...I would'nt mind if this was a once off occurence but it is constantly happening......anyone want to join me in burning the company to the ground(metaphorically speaking of course);) ;);)

I use the online text service all the time and have never had a problem

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 43 jdwals

I agree. Sent a picture message to my girlfriend yesterday. She didn't receive it after about ten minutes and I sent it again. No sign of it.
Then about six hours later - she gets the message and the resend of the message.
That happens a lot and it is costing me money. Not good.

Yeah it is a bit annoying when you've typed out a message, go to send and theres an "administrative error" so you have to type the feckin thing again and hope for the best.. I typed the same message out 4 times yesterday before it sent.. And yes I know you can click the back button and copy and paste in a new message but for some reason it wouldnt let me yesterday.. Just kept saying "No message was sent"

But for the most part they are alright.. and the 300 txts a month are a god send.. saves me a fortune on credit

I use em all the time, & sometimes the error pops up so i leave it a bit & it comes back.

Had alot of trouble with Vodafone myself last year. They messed up iwth the DD took 2 lots of payment for 1 month. I complained nothing happened so i cancelled the DD. Then i got a letter saying that i owed wait for it ................35c & i had 7 working days to pay it or i would be cut off & also they stated on the same letter that i have to give 1 months notice before i cancell the dd. Enclosed with the letter was a neww dd mandate form (ahh the cheek!).

So me being me i sent them back a very smart & sarcastic letter about there lack of communication in the company & also enclosed the dd form with 35c stuck to the mandate enclosing my payment of 35c that i owed.

I put it all in 1cents. So never got a reply but im sure they were happy.

Well i was anyway twas a good laugh.:D

Brother, I feel your pain. Their website is complete sh*ite. I get errors when attempting to send texts or else they tell me I've used up all my texts (when I've got 200 left). I haven't successfully registered for their 3 cent call deal they have at the moment either due to online errors. I've had to send curt mail to them as well demanding them to give me my 2 euro free credit when I topped up with 20.
The next time I walk by a Meteor shop, I'm gonna stop in and change network. Free Meteor to Meteor texts (5 cents to everyone else, unlike Vodafone's poxy 13 cent texts) plus they're always giving my housemate (a Meteor customer) lots of free credit for no reason. They sound great, a utopian phone network!

same crap happened to me yesterday id 80 messages on tues and none yesterday aparently. I emailed them. They emailed me back saying 'sorry our server is down' yet did nothing and suggested i ring them for further assistance - like what goods ringing them going to do??

I'm surprised their phones work. Now there would be an ironic twist if they didn't.

I have had problems with Vodafone's server. There have been many occasions where I could not send a text message because of the crashed server. You cannot tell if the text has reached the intended destination. On one occasion, I used the scheduled text function to send a text at a particular time but it didn't work.

Sadly, I have no choice but to use it. I currently have no credit. :(

my dad works for vodafone.. here's the low-down:

vodafone splits up all the responsibility between all the various countries it's invaded. vodafone ireland, for example, looks after their fat database of customers and what not (they bought some supercomputer of a bank a few years ago).

all that server lark is handled by vodafone germany. it's probably hosted in ireland, but maintaned by someone named hansel in some post-modern architects wet-dream. i.e. as far removed from the regular irish user of webtext as possible.

that said, i've yet to have a problem with it.

I moved from Vodafone bill to Meteor pay then to O2 bill. Vodafone though I was with them for years always seemed to be costing me more money. My phone bill was massively reduced going to Meteor. I only switched to O2 because I got 6 months free.

i can't remember how to do that whois thing properly, but a quick search located the site as originating in amsterdam.

Yeah, the vodafone website is always down when you need it! Vodafone UK is even worse though. Calls cost 35p per minute, texts are 12p each, you get no free credit when you sign up and you get NO free online texts!

I quickly switched to Orange bill pay and I adore them. I'm going to the cinema tonight with their "Orange Wednesdays 2 for 1 cinema tickets" offer.

Ok, you save money but what about the prestige? I mean, Meteor is just not cool....even the name is not cool. Whereas Vodafone sounds already much better...and you can see it as sponsor of the F1 Ferrari team too....now, that is cool! :)

I'm so used to getting errors when I try to send an onlne text, that every time I type one out, I ctrl+c it before clicking 'send'.. That way I don't have to type it out again, just paste it back in.

I'm still on contract with Vodafone, but as soon as it's up, I'm switching to someone else.. Vodafone's network coverage is excellent, but everything else is pants..

    K.

    .

I do exactly the same thing. I try my best to do most of my texting from the net. Not always possible obviously. But it really is infuriating, when it the site doesn't work. I'd say overall, there's something wrong with it a third of the time, higher some days. Maybe they do it to curtail people's use of free texts. I want to change network but it's a pain, so never get around to it. It's also handy to be on a carrier that works anywhere in the world. BUt I spend a fortune on my phone. Last bill was over 100 euro. And it's always above 70. Their calls and texts prices are far far too high. But then we're too lazy to do anything about it I supppose.

Also, bill payers are even more ripped off. It's supposed to be cheaper but it's definitely not. I was very annoyed to see this stop the clock craic!! I mean wtf, I'm a guaranteed customer every month on bill and the ready to go people get an offer like that. My phone a friend for free is rubbish in comparison.

My texts always send from Webtext. I think it's great!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,184 ✭✭✭✭Pighead

Yeah they're pretty nifty alright. However Pighead has 2 minor gripes that he hopes and expects the leaders of Vodafone can remedy pretty sharpish.

1/ Not enough characters allowed in the free message. I mean come on, how the hell am I supposed to woo the ladies/scold the enemies/chat to the buddies if i'm restricted to 70 odd characters. And before you say it, No i won't be using the text speak.

2/ Right i've written a message to my girlfriend telling her shes great and then head off to the toilet to think about how great she is and go for a wee wee at the same time. She texts back telling me how fabulous I am and how I make her knees tremble every time she sees/hears me. I go back to the PC, write her a 70 character text agreeing with everything shes said, press send and the fcuking thing tells me to log in again and my bloody message is lost. SHODDY. Sort it out lads.

In summary: MORE CHARACTERS, LONGER LOG IN TIMES

Pighead, do you talk to your girlfriend in the third person? She must be a very patient individual... Tiresome at this point.

I once sent an email to Vodafone about their website. I think it the biggest pile of ****e I have ever used. I reckon about 50% of the time I get some 'error' when trying to view my bill details. They told me 'it was just down for maintenance'... 4 days later it was still down.

I must look into this Meteor switching...

I don't understand how all mobile phone companies have got away with the rip off for so long. A text costs Vodafone €0 to send, nothing, nada. But they charge 9c (odd) for each one to each customer. The phonecalls do cost Vodafone money, but at that they hike the custormer's price by at least 120% - 400%.. rip off.

The web texts costs nothing, there should be more characters available and the site should be up graded to handle the volume, but if they leave it and allow it to overload every couple of hours, it means that the customer will be forced to send a text using their mobile - cha ching. It's all done on purpose.

    /end rant.

It's not free . We're already paying for the overall service. It's part of the package they offer. And it's just not good enough. My minimum bill every month is €39 for my inclusive minutes and texts. As was just mentioned, texts cost nothing to them, as every single text is sent on what was a test carrier line and never envisaged for use in this way. It is one of the biggest rip offs in this country.

please do elaborate as to how sending a data packets across networks cost vodafone "nada" so your claiming there is absolutlely no overheads involved in sending an SMS???

as for the 300 webtext being part of the package...thats complate rubbish it does not state anywhere in your T+C's that as part of your service vodafone will provide you with 300 webtexts per month...this a bonus feature offered to vodafone customers as an additional feature free of charge therefore as i stated already this is free to customers

Sorry, Vodafone obviously have to pay 'something' to provide the service. As stated earlier, text lines were origionally set up as test lines and have no direct cost. Maybe less than 1/5th of a cent per text. How can Meteor afford to do texts for free? I remember loads of websites in 1999/2000 which allowed you to send texts for free - cos it cost nothing (or next to nothing). Then they all started to cop that they could charge for it.

With the billions that Vodafone make in post tax profits, you'd think that they could afford to give a proper service. :(

    yep.

No problems with the phone end, but their website has always annoyed... Its slow and the connection times out a lot. Added to that, until recently parts of the site wouldn't work with Firefox.

For instance i cant even get into their webmail at the moment.

Do they host their website from someones bedroom?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 841 ✭✭✭Dr Pepper

I used to be with o2 and found their webtext service to be far better than Vodafone's.. The site rarely works for me on the first attempt. I don't even use it anymore because, on average, it's less time-consuming (and stressful!) to just write the message on my phone.
I know it's free but IT SHOULD WORK ANYWAY!

PS - Anybody ever tried saving a contact name/number on this site? Did you find it laughable?

o2 website - send a message to a number that's not in your phonebook - Next page says: "Your message was sent to 087 1234567.. Would you like to add this person to your phone book?" <Text Field> Type the persons name and press 'Ok'. (Or something like that) Done

vodafone website - about 10 steps (which I don't have time to describe) involving being directed to the email service and eventually re-entering the phone number and persons name.

    Meteor, here I come!

But they do. The only problems I've ever had sending texts occured because of a dodgy handset or network congestion. Even congestion is now gone - I could make calls on New Year's Eve this year.

The webtext is not part of your service. It's one of those freebies that exists because everyone else is doing it. Vodafone used to only do thirty texts from their webtext to Vodafone-only numbers. Then they found a huge number of students (the future heavy pay-monthly users) were jumping to O2 or Meteor because of the webtext facility, and upgraded theirs accordingly. Two big rules of business - Offer at least what your competitors offer, and try to get ahead using minor benefits to the consumer, not massive ones.

My point is that it is a free service, which you're not entitled to. If you're unhappy with it, switch provider (you can keep your number and get switched over that day) and let Vodafone know that an iffy website is the reason you're moving.

Nobody's forcing you to go with Vodafone. Why do the Irish have this habit of complaining about the service they're receiving, but continue using it anyway?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,129 ✭✭✭Nightwish

my e-mail account is with them and it totally pisses me iff cos the server is always down. Especially when I've e-mails for payments or important college stuff. I've emailed them complaining about it (from my college email!) and what do you think they did...e-mailed me back but to my vodafone mail, even though I couldnt get access to it.
