ok without sounding like a moron, ive been trying to get into weightlifting over the past few months but i always lose interest, this is due to the fact that after every session the next day i have horrible pains in my arms, im thinking this is due to not stretching the muscles. so over the past few days i decided to give it another go, i looked up information on stretching and tried it, then i did my routine...again im in horrible pain to the point where i can barely move my arms. waht am i doing wrong?

tips on how to warm up the muscles properly will be much appreciated and also can anyone suggest the best lifting techniques to build up arm muscles and lose weight around the chest?

    thanks.

I'm just gonna say that there is a sticky at the top of this Forum called "The Basics" and to give it a read.

No worries, if you have any more specific questions after just pop them up and i'll try and help out.

    For now though, two things

    a) fat loss cannot really be encouraged from any particular place, you just lose weight overall, to do this you simple cut down on calories in and increase calories out. If you are unhappy with you chest you may think about cutting out milk and dairy as some blokes can add a little tissue to the chest area because of these.

    b) Your muscles are sore because you are using them. Pretty simple, when you go back to the gym get your head down and work in the 12 to 15 rep range. If your body is not used to physical activity it can be a big strain on tendons and ligaments etc and these need to be conditoned before the muscle can be worked to any great degreee.

Dragan's right. your muscles are sore because you worked them, simple as. Tbh, stretching is widely debated as to how effective it is- there's been a few threads about it recently so just do a search. Vit C has been linked with speeding up recovery time, and its a vitally important part of any diet so supplementing won't do you any harm. The pain does ease as you get stronger, but when I stop getting any pain at all I get a little worried!! It means I'm not pushing myself as hard as I could, and as strange as it sounds, a nice deep ache the day after some heavy lifting is really quite satisfying!! So take a look at those stickies and let us know if there's anything else you need.
