Cheltenham Wednesday bets

Just wanted some people's opinions on tomorrows races. I was thinking of opposing some of the favourites. In the first race it seems like Denman is most people's banker for the week, but was thinking that refinement ew at 7s or without Denman at 7-2 would be better value. Commercial flyer seems to be very highly thought of for the 2nd race.

In the Queen Mother I was thinking of going against Kauto Star as I only found out he has never raced at Cheltenham at all. It's also hard to have confidence in Moscow after this seasons performances if though it might have been down to the yard. I was looking at either Central House or Fota Island. Both have won good races in Ireland and barring any more mistaken finishing posts Central house could be in with a good chance.

Don't know a great deal about the other races but was going to go for skys the limit ew 5 places (powers) in the 4.00. In the 4.40 i;m going for black apalachi as if conditions are similar they would suit as I think I remember him winning well on soft ground in a good race at leopardstown at christmas. In the last i was going to go for Equus Maximus in the Bumper as Mullins always does well in this and this seems to be his best hope

    Only backing 2 horses tomorrow
2.00 Zaiyad:top french form and not to be underestimated,if Denman is'nt 100%,this one will highlight any chinks in the favourites armour 250 win

3.15 Fundamentalist:if this one fulfils his undoubted potential he could cause a shock here, imo moscow flyer is past his best, fota island and central house are not good enough and kauto star is no value,@25/1 Fundamentalist looks great value, perhaps dempsey can trouble him.

For those who are looking for a bit of value to oppose Denman with Paddy Power are refunding losing bets on the horse that finishes 2nd to Denman. The fact PP are putting up this bet means they don't think Denman will be winning, they were right yesterday with a similar offer on Sweet Wake and Racing Demon.

I'd agree with this. I think it's the safest bet of the week. I still wouldn't go OTT with it though.

The 1st 3 races will decide if I bet in any of the other races today, and possibly tomorrow.

    I need a return from
    Denman WIN
    Darkness EW
    Moscow EW

I'm a bit wary about Darkness jumping well enough, and there is a real chance Moscow will just flop, but such are the risks.

PaddyPower are offering odds of 8-1 on Moscow being Pulled up.

Think I'll get myself some of that.

If Flyer is not performing well (which we know he's not), me thinks that they would rather pull him up than have him humiliatingly defeated.

    Any other takers??

Also - my treble of the day

    2.00 - Denman
    2.35 - Our Ben
    3.15 - Kauto Star

    COME ON RUBY!

Hard to see who will beat Denman, he will be galloping all the way up the hill.

Queen Mother is hard to pick, fav very short and could be turned over. Moscow ?? Central House definitely ew but has to jump well all the way.

    2.35 Our Ben
4.00 EW Bets - Verasi / Phar Bleu & Good Thyne Jack
4.40 Another Rum & Parsons Legacy EW (Both places at Chel last year)
    5.20 Perce Rock

I got Denman AP a few months back at 3-1, wish I'd stuck more than a tenner on him now
    Each way Treble of
    Denman
    Our Ben
    Fota Island

also Dom D'Orgeval at 4pm @16s was tipped EW by Anto the security guard on 98fm today ;)

I put one of my biggest bets on Denman (certainly by far my biggest bet of the festival). It's only about half my profit from yesterday so I wouldn't say i'm going ott. :) If it doesn't win I won't be putting another bet on today as I'm not too keen on most of the other races.

In the 2.00 I am putting Denman to win, and a place for Refinement.
2.35 I will probably be going e/w with Our Ben, not to sure yet.
    3.15 Fota Island.

I will also do an e/w treble on Denman, Our Ben and Fota Island.

I backed Parson's Legacy last year and it pains me to leave him today but I think Inch Pride has ticks in all the right boxes, ground, trip course...a nice each way chance.

Inch pride is in a different race to Parsons legacy.

I too had Parson's legacy last year, he was fairly unlucky not win, he goes off a 3lb lower handicap mark, has been lightly raced this season and has one of the better riders

Aye I was still in the Afrad argument there.

underwriter is off a tantalisingly low weight for that one and there's some very decent each way value there. Whether it will still be there come the off is another matter - spotlight nap and Pricewise horse.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,764 ✭✭✭DeadParrot

underwriter's odds are shortening by the second
20-1, 16s,14s, at 12s on PP at the moment

Paddy Power is on 2fm atm. The way he is talking there isn't any other horse in the race. He has it as pretty much a cert.

a good bet is Equus Maximus in the 5.20, its a willie mullins horse and you should get a bout 5-1

    Hi,
I'm new to Boards, Just thought I'd give my input.....

    1) Denman will not be beaten.

2)Bewleys Berry has an excellent chance in the 2.35

3)Fota island for the queen mother.

4)Desert air is definitly worth an each way gamble in the 4.00

5)My nap of the day would have to be Black apalachi fo the 4.40

    6)Equus Maximus for the 5.20.

On the racing post betting site. Either make a bet with them or pay £5 for the day. No where for free I'm afraid (PP will have radio commentary though)

Look like you, and a lot of others, were wrong. Was being referred to as the banker of the festival. Lousy odds kept me from betting too much money on him, thanks God.

I thought he was going to take it but Nicanor took the last hurdle well and finished well then. I'm just glad I had Refinement for a place only, I still made a small profit in the first race, just a pity Denman couldn't find a bit extra.

You should be shot if you backed Denman. Go for decent ew value whatever hope you have. 11/10 in such a race, pure madness. I was in a bpacked bookies and I was the only one collecting. I couldn't beleive it, they were all on Denman.
