A quick one. How do you calculate your 1 RM based on a number of reps to failure of a lower weight?

A quick rule of thumbs is your 8 rm is 78% of your 1rm

    What about 5 reps?

    I'm guessing about 90% 1RM ?????

I think its about that, bodybuilding.com have a 1rm calculator somewhere on their site.

Why don't you just see what you can lift for 1 rep.

Or am i missing the point here.

    Got it! Cheers amazingemmet.

Why not do a 1RM? Main goal is to increase strength for playing football. My program is based on lifting weights between 75% and 85% 1RM so I have to change the weights every 3 weeks or so. I need to recover quickly between sessions so I don't train to complete failure or do 1RMs very often. What is the benifit of doing 1RMs? I'm always open to new ideas and a bit of variation but I don't really fancy doing 1RMs for squats or deadlifts if it means I can't walk for 5 days.
