Running a half marathon at the end of April...

What sort of distance should I be running at this stage of my training? Im not really following a particular training schedule, I love jogging and do it for fun, thats why I really havent been doing much training...

At the moment Im running about 6 - 7 miles...I know I should push it a bit more... am I on track for doing the 13 miles ok? Im not aiming for a time, just a comfortable run and finish...

    Thanks

While I am certainly no expert, I have run a marathon and did read up a good bit about what you should be doing and when. I'd say you'll be fine for the half marathon - if you can manage what your doing now well (i.e. not falling over yourself). I would (obviously) increase your running distance on the run up, culminating in a 10-13 mile run 2 weekends before. Just do light jogging then and you'll be set, I'd wager.

Good luck with the run! Let us know how you do.

I've been running 5-7 miles 3 times a week for the last few months. Have done the odd 8-9 mile run. Ran 13 miles on saturday, I got around but it hurt bad, if you're not aiming for a particualr time, you'll be grand.

Is it the Bantry half marathon?

Thinking of doing it myself but its expensive.

you should be fine, to give yourself the best chance, cut back some of your runs to 5 mile and do one longer one a week. eg this week do 9, then 11, 10, 13, 11, 13, 9, 7 each week in the run up. this will give you a much better feel for the distance and great confidence. If you can support this run with 4 other runs in the week of 4-6 miles, make one of these speedwork (tempo or hill run are the easiest and safest). the other 3 runs take easy enough, if you are feeling any niggles cut out 1 or 2 of the other 3 runs, but keep the speedwork and long run (wed speed, sat long run is a good option)
