??? a sports car in irish traffic is a waste, full stop. I prefer looking at a nice bird in a sports car than a bald fat bloke.

A woman in any car is not just a waste, it is also a hazzard! :v:

    Lol, I concur :D

OP: Would tend to agree with you but I find it hilarious seeing a woman driving a powerful car at 20 km/h down the road with their heads virtually over the steering wheel. so let them at it.

You've got the two types, the ones who guy and buy a real sports car such as porsche and then drive it at 20km/h and you've got the skanger girls who go out and buy corsas and "do them up" and then drive like maniacs with hardcore dance music blaring along the roads. Yet they still get cheaper insurance.

I'm in no way sexist btw.

Maybe so, but the ones I see in the very expensive cars tend to be mid thirties and rich looking, not the types you expect to see out working on their motors on a saturday afternoon.

A waste how exactly? What are the alternatives? Because YOU could be driving it?? Or because you would rather see another man behind the wheel?? Do you go to car shows and wish they had some men draped across the bonnet in bikinis?? Or is it that you think a woman won't use it to its full potential and drive like a maniac in it??

Not always the case, I drive a 2002 Celica & before that it was an Audi A4(too expensive to keep on the road though!)

I think the OP thinks that those women are buying the sports cars for their "posing value". Of course everybody hates posers so no sports cars have no posing value.

You are really petty. Keep it up, it will boost anyone's morale to see that there are some sadder ones than them around.

    • 2 world wars
    • a famine in Ethiopia
    • the Cuban missile crisis

sports cars are a waste in Ireland, regardless of who is behind the wheel.
as are souped up renault 5's and all those other pieces of crap out there.
you can only go as fast as the tractor in front of you.

I agree, a Celica is hardly a sports car. Sporty, yes, but a sports car is more MX-5, Boxster, Carerra, Corvette, possibly a TT or Z4, most Ferarris... Even the M3/5, S4/6/8 and Monaro are probably not true sports cars as they have far too much functionality/comfort built in. Evo/Imprezas are an interesting category to themselves though.

Some of the back roads in the countryside are perfect for sports cars. Nice twisty things...

Of course, this haven't happened in Saudi Arabia where women can't vote. Nor are they allowed to drive a car.

Women in sports cars are great. Especially if you're the bloke in the passenger seat fiddling with the stereo and waving at gawpers on busses.

Needs to be better than that. Mine cranks out 340hp and does 0-60 in less than 6 seconds, but it's a four-seater, with quite a few luxury accoutrements. I don't consider it a sports car, just an unusually fast mid-range convertible. You also have muscle cars, which have massively big engines, but don't do too well at those corner thingies.

A true sports car must be designed with the primary purpose of getting from A to B as fast as possible over both straight and twisty roads: Interior comfort, space, luxury, cargo capacity, fuel economy, etc, are all secondary. See Lotus Elise for a prime example of a pure sports car.

sports cars are a waste in Ireland, regardless of who is behind the wheel.

I disagree, Ireland is full of "A" style single carriageways and if you want to make any sort of progress overtaking is essential, Overtaking is obviously going to be a lot easier in a sports car with a few hundred horsepower than in a 3 cylinder 50 horsepower daewoo matiz,

You have to wonder if this thread was started by the green eyed monster ;)

A waste ? Sorry, but that post is ridiculous. Half the buffoons who drive sports cars buy them for show, to say "look at me" (by both sexes). How bout you try spending your time improving your grammar instead of moaning about issues beyond your control. It just makes you sound bitter.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,660 ✭✭✭Blitzkrieger

Needs to be better than that.

That was just two criteria the new Celica falls short on. A measly 180bhp and 0-60 takes a week. Or 8.3 seconds, I'm not sure.

My sister's got a Lotus Elise 1-11s. She doesn't live in Ireland, she's a barrister Manchester. But holy **** it's a piece of work. Fantastic car and any time I've been out in it with her, and we've stopped anywhere, the comments are hilarious from the green-eyed begrudging boy racers. Sad sacks.

The last time she was in Ireland with it, some "nice person" scraped all the side of it with a key. When she visits now, she tends to come in her other car.
Jealousy's pathetic and is for looooooooooozers, you know.
