Just wondering how effective are they compared to a protein shake? Are the results worth the price?

    thanks

Protein is protein usually, the results will be the same. Watch the carbs and fat in bars tho as they can be high.
Good if you are sick of shakes or dont want to carry around one or two shaker bottles...

Solid food won't get into the system as quick as a liquid shake. The bars are generally MRPs, they're supposed to be used instead of a meal (assuming you eat 6 or more a day and can afford to make one of them a bar). I.e. If you are meant to have 7 meals and you've only prepared 6 then throw a bar in aswell.

alcohol sugars(empty kcals?), glucose-fructose syrup(reduce insulin sensitivity), soya protein(poor amino profile, estrogenic effect - ), hydrogenated veg oil(!!), veg oil(this is soya oil), gums, etc. etc

most of these bars are crap. dire. and expensive.
again its all about the money. cheap = more profit. health is NOT a concern  unless its something acute like death upon first bite:D

    protein is not protein.

    results will vary. casein(slow release/anticatabolic) v's whey (fast/anabolic)
soya and plant protein v's milk proteins(amino profile), processing technique in whey: ion exchanged v's microfiltration( denaturation and other removal of content like growth factors, immunoglobulins), BCAAs v's full proteins, timing of ingestion of these proteins etc etc.
