    what does mean std's please?

    Sexually Transmitted Diseases..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,894 ✭✭✭Chinafoot

Yup...usually every 6 months or so.

And no, that does not mean I don't practice safe sex....it means that I'm sensible on the issue and am aware that no matter how careful you are somethings can't be protected against and that in some cases an STI can take months to make an appearance....therefore regular testing is the only way to go.

    Nope. Never, in fact.

EDIT: I should probably add in the proviso that I've never had sex, so... Make of that what you will :D

I don't because I've heard that insurance companies will increase your premiums if you've had an STD test.
I don't know if thats true or not. If it is, it's a disgrace.

that's a stupid reason not to don't you think?

Well, early days yet, but the poll is showing a trend i thought it would.. but again, early days..

never.. didnt realise ya had to get one regularly [unless you havnt been careful like...]

I can see this post being used as an example in a careless youth of today type way...

That is absolutely not true. where did you hear that one?

just have to say, even though there is only 6 votes so far, lundimardi's poll shows that it seems a lot of men are quite ignorant of sexual health... with 5 men already saying they've never had a std test.

a male friend of mine insists he cant get an std, and has never been checked out. he is under the impression that only women get them.... total idiot

i do admit though that i myself voted no, but i've only been with one person and that person with me, so tis not something i have to worry about at the moment.

Well I first heard it here. I didn't really believe it, so I asked a doctor, and she said it was actually true.
I don't know what to believe.

well redner for me then if it is true.

you say a doctor said it was true..

madness surely. why get a higher premium for actually looking after your health....

im paranoid about getting hiv even with protection althought the risk is miniscule when protection is used.

Never, dont feel the need while in a long term relationship. and i'm seldom not in a long term relationship :).

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,144 ✭✭✭LundiMardi

why do you not feel the need when in a LT relationship? What about what happens before said relationship?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,606 ✭✭✭djmarkus

This is true, but i wouldnt go out with someone that had more penii in them than hot dinners(which kinda highers the chances a bit;)).

In essence i think the risk to me is minimal.(crosses fingers)

na seriously, i get to know girls i go out with for a few months to get to know them before actually sleeping with them(if i sleep with them).

    and this is fullproof?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,606 ✭✭✭djmarkus

I never said it was foolproof, i could be dying of aids while i type, although the chances are pretty low.

I forgot to mention that i would proceed to have safe sex for a sustained amount of time(until a more permanent solution is in place :))

When was the last time you got checked?

How would having safe sex at the start of the relationship make a difference? I'm not trying to be a smartarse, but it's obvious the point i'm getting at..

    I've already explained my situation.

Well theres more of a chance of any STI symtoms becoming obvious during 6 months of safe sex rather than just jumping in bareback(i know its not the case with HIV)?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,061 ✭✭✭✭Terry

never felt the need as i've never had unprotected sex. except for that one time, but that was many years ago and my lad still seems fine.

as a naive 18 year old, i tried to chat up a hooker in Dublin one night. i didn't know she was a hooker and i was really drunk. my friends were across the road, pissing themselves laughing.

and lundimardi is right. my friend recently went for an STD test and had a swab of some sort inserted into his japs eye.

    Rude and quite painful!

Surely before you have regular checks you have to have regular sex...
