The guy arrested is in two of my modules (anyone in first year bess/soc pol etc knows him and he has a ton of nicknames), everyone has a story to tell about him (mine is that he got kicked out of my tutorial once). Anyway, does anyone know why he was arrested?

yeh saw the whole situation after it unfolded. 4 gárdaí were there. two security and a barman/buttery staff/randomer (not sure will have a chat with gerry later) standing off about twenty metres away. dermot had (i think) started a fight with him and security intervened. i only saw the aftermath but will get the whole story from gerry (who is the coolest security guard in the whole wide campus) tomorrow morning.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,626 ✭✭✭Stargal

What time did it happen at? We're going to mention it in TN but the Garda press office can't give us info until we know roughly what time it happened at.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭Bartronilic

Roughly it was between 4 and 5 because i heard about it when i was supposed to be in a tutorial at that time (i'm so mad missing it  ).

He WAS in my politics tutorial until he interrupted the tutor about 20 times, pulled down a projector screen out of nowhere and slagged feminism (which u don't do to a politics tuto).

I know 9 billion stories about him, some people say he's a hero beacuse of the entertainment we get from him.

(apparently the SEVEN policmen asked him was he on medication, he rplied "Yeah... lemsip").

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,523 ✭✭✭ApeXaviour

    So why was he arrested?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭Bartronilic

Nobody knows but it seems like he fought a staff member (by looking at ilovemybrick's post). I think it is more serious because SEVEN guards and a van.

just out of curiosity is this the same guy that sits in the computer room on the 4th floor of the arts block and curses, talks to himself, throws his shoes at the door, kicks the door! there some be some guy that shouts and stuff up there, i think there's something wrong with him. he's got really short hair, almost shaved? if its not him does anybody know who he is?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 518 ✭✭✭Bartronilic

That is DEFINITELY him! That's the one, the talk of the town... or campus

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,452 ✭✭✭Time Magazine

Really aggressive looking guy? Intimidating, like?

I think I know the chap.

    Guns 'N Roses hoodie guy?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,618 ✭✭✭Ideo

i dont know whether you would say aggressive looking. put it this way i wouldnt like to be caught staring at him for a while! and i apologise for the above post, was reading it and it doesn't make much sense! has he a split personality or something? i think there's something mentally wrong with him, i dont think he's just a trouble maker or anything

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 676 ✭✭✭ilovemybrick

eeehhhhmmmm varying stories from the security lads i was talking to about it. but both VERY serious. i wont post because they're libelous but i cant see him being here next year anyway. oh and christine you are entitled to the Junior Dean report on any incident under freedom of information so look into that. id say that will be more detailed than what you will get from the Garda press office. and the incident happenend just before 4 but the original four gárdaí were there until almost twenty past and the van arrived shortly after with the other two gárdaí (the seventh which some people saw may have remained in the van i didnt see him/her).
and in answer to anyones questions as to who he is you're all right. he also came to a lecture a few weeks ago with one shoe on and the other foot wrapped in an exceptionally long scarf which went from around his neck down around his foot.
AAAANNNNDDD if your smart and can recognise him running you may be able to see him in some of the videos posted about last saturdays little incident.

*edit - made my post less defamatory :) *

guys just a pointer, i know for a fact a relation of the guy in question reads these boards and probably has seen this post so comments like
sounds liek he was probally arested for being such a hard bsatard...schweeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
probably aint the nicest to read

also i dunno how smart it is to be implying he was up to anything in the riots without any proof being provided

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

^^^ Exactly so - but no-one is going to sue a student... they don't have any money!

If you've seen someone in a picture rioting, then you've seen them rioting. Also the guy sounds liek a complete tool/looper.

fair enough if you see them, but to say that you seen something and offer no proof could get you into hot water is my point

eg i could say that i seen you having intercourse with a donkey and however untrue (well for your sake i hope its untrue :p) without any proof its just slander/libelous (i dunno im no lawyer)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

Libel = written (permanent form) slander = vocal (transient form) (free legal advice?!? you won't find that often ;) )

when i get done for manslaughter for engineering a dodgy bridge in the future i know where im coming :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,110 ✭✭✭Thirdfox

Don't worry, most coporate manslaughter cases never go the way of plaintiffs :( Remember the rail track situation in England or the Irish(?) Ferries case?

oh and christine you are entitled to the Junior Dean report on any incident under freedom of information so look into that.

No, no, no, no, no, you're not. You're entitled to request such a report under the FOI law. You're not entitled to receive it.

There are various exemptions written into the Act(s), to cover issues such as the protection of privacy, commercial confidentiality, security, the interests/rights of others, etc. Now there are limits to the limits - i.e. a right to appeal, and so on - but it's wrong to assume that just because a record exists, and a body is subject to being FOIed, that you have an entitlement to receive it. In most cases, yes you will receive what you ask for, but not always.

In addition, there is a difference between requests related to your own personal information and a general request.

There is also defamation and innuendo. Those are legal terms. It is really not on to claim something which is subject to criminal law for three reasons:

    1. It might not be true.
    2. I might affect the actual proceedings.
    3. It might be true and do 2 ie it is sub judice.

    5 what happened to 4
    4 Oh there it is
F: How come it is suddenly gone alphabetical?
G: This is the penultimate point.

    ISAW wrote:

    Not quite.

Warning: off topic shpiel about to begin.

Data protection is about your own information, yeah - but FoI applies to both. The main difference between personal info and general info under Freedom of Information is that you have to pay for the latter but not for the former. Also, the restrictions are naturally tighter on general stuff. In addition, you have a right to have personal info corrected (there's a similar right under Data Protection, along with lots of other stuff), and a right to receive reasons for a decision affecting you - these don't apply to general requests for info just because you're interested.

Also, data protection applies generally (i.e. including private companies); FoI only applies to the bodies on an exclusive list created by law (amended every now and again to add more).

    Further info on both laws:
    http://www.oic.gov.ie/en/ (Freedom of Information)
    http://www.dataprotection.ie (Data Protection)

These websites are run by the respective 'commissioners', and have lots of non-legal guides (as well as the full Acts) - they are also generally quite helpful if you have a query (phone or email) about how to get access to information.
BTW Whatever happened to the "new" disciplinary procedures?

BD/05-06/159 Statute on Student Discipline The Board noted that the Visitors had approved the Ordinance to amend Chapter VII, Section 13 and Chapter XII, Section 23 and agreed that the date for implementation of the regulations will be 1 November 2006.

    (Board minutes)
