    Hey!

It's usually very difficult to find out any information about the results of the election. Sometimes I dont find out the results until the Observer comes out a week or so later! So, how about people post any results that they hear about up here?

How about this is made the official results thread? I know Peachy is only going to allow one results thread (because she's a goddess, and we all thank her profusely for it) so let this be it. The count isn't on until tomorrow, and there'll probably be the odd recount or two with Ents.

I'll be there so I'll post when I get the chance tomorrow.

As Blush said, this is going to be the only results thread. Please discuss all election results here and if any other threads are made on the subject I'm going to merge them with this one.

Wow, the excitment is just palpable! You can feel it in your bones! Where's Jon Snow with his insightful analysis when you need it?

Abou an hour ago -dan winning, education and welfare too close to call

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 18 YeVaD

I was hoping Enda Donoghue would win for Ents, but Dave does have a great promotions background, so it looks like he'd just be as good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

After Health Science, with just Ag and Science to go (Sci turnout about 500):
Dan Hayden about 55% of vote, will win on first count
    Duffy 25%, Orla 15%, RON 5%.

Deputy, Dave about 85%, RON 15%.

Education there's about 100-odd votes in it, in Doyle's favour.

Welfare, Barry might just scrape the quota on the first count.

Ents - Dave in front, Holly 2nd, Canny and Hartshorn at 3rd. Unsure about transfers. Prob RON and O'Duinn to be eliminated after first count.

    ...as I type,
    Deputy;
    RON 715
    Curran 3382
    ...Dave is the winnah.

God I hope Holly doesn't get Ents. Redmond wouldn't be my first choice by any stretch of the imagination, but at least he has some clue what he's doing some of the time. And he could manage to run an event in Bondi.

Poor endaway. Looks like that Batman suit didnt pay off. Seriously students take this way to seriously and gone are the days of fun and stupid Laughs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

    Dan won it, obviously.
Dave got Dep, as I said earlier.
Barry beat the quota by 50-odd, is thrilled.
Brian Doyle beat Kate without hitting the quota, getting 32 of the 278 RONs.

As for Ents, currently awaiting the 5th count, Hartshorn's 717 being redistributed.
The quota is 2131, and so far
    Canny 919
    Irvine 968
    Redmond 1210

I'll try to keep you all posted.

    After Ents count 5: - Hartshorn's 717...

    CANNY, Brian .... + 154 = 1073
    IRVINE, Holly .... + 181 = 1149
    REDMOND, Dave + 102 = 1312

Canny's been eliminated and now they're starting the awful task of spreading his 1073. With so many to spread and 163 between them I wouldn't make a prediction just yet...

hey, i understand PRSTV and all that, but we were told on the ballot sheet to Mark and X as to which candidate we wanted. how can there be votes transferred if its just X's?

Also any news on the Referendum?

So so happy Duffy didn't get in!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

Just an update: after Canny's transfers Redmond actually won it by 22, but it was so close that Morgan declared a recount himself, due to the possibility of initially spoiled votes being genuinely valid and vice versa.

The recount is tomorrow at 2pm.

Well, basically, if the RONs involved don't have any second preferences (I believe of the 300-odd there were only 70 that had a second pref attached) then after everything's been done you eliminate the lowest candidate. This was done, Kate was eliminated, leaving Brian as the only nominee remaining.

In ents Holly + Dave are on 1500ish with Dave 22 ahead. The recount tomorrow starts from scratch, unlike the General Elections, so with about 4250 valid votes I reckon a margin of error around 1% could swing it for Holly.

I have to say this year's results have made me think Canvassing on Election day should be banned. It was mental at loads of the polling stations and it's gives a far too great advantage to those with big election teams, which is by no means an indication of a candidates ability. Also, it would limit people's ability to break the rules to get votes. Dave send out texts messages (I got one neway +so did loads of people I know), and apparently had his team handing out cans of Red Bull, but cause he did them on the 2nd election day, no punishment could make any real impact on his votes, short of being disqualified.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,270 ✭✭✭singingstranger

Just to clarify, he WAS fined €40 and 100 manifestos, so it's not as if it went without being dealt with. Of course, the argument could still stand that it didn't really impact on his votes but he was punished.

The left have been dealt a viscious blow. :)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,121 ✭✭✭dajaffa

Oh I know he was punished, it's just that the punishment wouldn't have had an effect on the votes at all really.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 687 ✭✭✭scop

Youre all insane, you realise you wont hear from the SU at all this year, youve voted in every chancer in the place to sit around doing nothing.

phew-justice has been done in UCD.I'm just so pleased Dan got in.I wish Orla had done better though cos its sad to see just how girls just dont stand a chance of getting voted president in UCD.:(
Was delighted with the others that won.Think it will be a really strong team but I have to admit with all my bashing of the womens officer position then I take it back for next year. With a union full of guys a womens officer will be desperatly needed in 06/07.
