OK i don't get this, in say a sitting front bend when i pull myself into it i've still got another 5-6 inchers to go to get my chest to my legs and then if i get some one to sit on my back i get completely folded in half but in both cases i don't feel a stretch, So is it a case that i have to strength up the muscles that pull me into the stretch or relax more?

Can you get your chin over your toes? I'ld say you're rounding your lower back.

Yeah, you're not pivoting around the hip properly (i.e. are bending your lower back). Concentrate on keeping your back straight and trying to get your chin on your toe. Use a towl passing around your feet to pull on if you need leverage. If you pivot about the hip correctly your toe will nestle on your forehead, or your chin if you tilt your head back (see attached).
