I love catholic "holidays", they make me feel sane.

So yes, it'll be steak for dinner tonight.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 735 ✭✭✭finlma

I'll make a point of it.

Where did the idea come from anyway? I bet Jesus had a sneaky bacon sandwich out in the desert. If he can turn water into wine I'm sure he could turn sand into a breakfast role.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,936 ✭✭✭fade2black

    hence the name sandwich...

    sorry.

Ha ha, you reckon he's looking down and laughing at us for fretting over dinner when he could always have whipped up a steak when he was peckish?

I'm not Irish and I'm not Catholic. If I don't eat meat today, it'll be purely coincidental.

I do have my eye on some nice fish for lunch though.

I thought Ash Wednesday was a day to give rememberance to all of those unfortunate enough to burn their pancakes on Shrove Tuesday? I'll sure as hell be having a nice big red steak tonight.

So long as he doesn't have to eat any he should be happy enough

Definitely eating some sort of meat today. These Catholic holidays make me laugh.

Think maybe a steak, chicken or a spaghetti bolegnese is on the menu tonight.

I'm going to have a big steak, rashers, sausages, chicken etc. Just to piss off everyone I know.

I'm having white truffles, lobster, stuffed quail's eggs and caviar. Nothing too outrageous, it is Lent after all.

Wouldn't have really bothered me on way or the other, but now I know I'll be making sure I get as much dead animal into me as possible today.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,575 ✭✭✭ZiabR

Well the last two years in a row i have eaten meat (totally forgetting what day it was). I will prob eat meat today as i have never paid much attention to Catholic holidays. But i am not eating meat to make a point, i just dont see the point in anyone of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,928 ✭✭✭✭rainbow kirby

Tbh, today is an opportunity to eat as many kinds of meat as possible :)

It would make more sense if Ash Wednesday and Pancake Tuesday were combined into the one day. At least then you'd have a alternative serving suggestion.

That's already sort of happening. I've friends who stuffed themselves so full of pancakes last night they don't feel like eating anything at all today. Well so far today anyway.

    ....my girlfriend.

Sorry, I've done that joke already!

Yes, just to buck the irrational trend of religions. I'll be having chicken curry tonight, followed by sex with my (unmarried!!!!) girlfriend, and I might aswell use a condom to secure a one way ticket to hell.

Seriously though, isn't religion a bit thick at times? Don't eat meat? Don't have sex until you're married? And even then, don't use Condoms? Don't eat shellfish/pork? The world would be such a better place without these childish rules. If there is a God, I reckon he's bordering on suicidal having to listen to the same prayers being repeated day after day after day for the last few thousand years, not to mention amused by the stupid rules we as humans have come up with for ourselves.
