Protein supplement or some other thing

    Hows it going, i work out in the gym around three times a week and run 4 times with football aswell. Thinking about getting some kind supplement to be able to lift more. I dont want to get huge or care about 6 pack/great pecks or anything like that, just want to get stronger and fitter. Joining the guards/army hopefully. Im pretty fit, im a big tall lad just want to fill out and get stronger, and advice from people who know the game would be very much appreciated

    Hey Sgt! Well the answer to your question is simply to eat alot of good quality food. Supplements are just what they sound like - supplementary to your diet. Most of them don't really work either*, but even the ones that do only make a few percent of a difference whereas a good diet makes up a huge chunk of it.     Total calories will be very important, as is an adequate protein intake.

    Right ive had a look at that post. Wow great info. I reckon ive a good diet, balanced anyway. Possibly could do with a bit more protein, so im thinking of cutting down on eating cheese and having more tuna and cold meats. Has anyone tried casilan, or think that the stuff actually works. When is the most effective time to get an intake of protein in relation to workout. Ive heard its directly after, then ive seen people drinking protein shakes while working out or lads eating loads then going to train to burn it off

    Whey is best taken directly after, or within about half an hour, of your workout. When its mixed with water it gets absorbed really easily and provides the amino acids for your body to start repairing the muscle torn during the workout. Its also a good idea to have a shake about 1-2 hours before the workout.

    Personally I don't take whey during a workout anymore because my sessions are quite intense and only last around an hour or so, but some of the guys I know who'd be spending more time in the gym per session (1.5-2 hours) would bring weight gainer (protein and lots of carbs) with them when they have really heavy training days.

    How much whey should u use with water. Is it the best thing to use to be able to lift more, without f*cking up my running. And are there any side effects?
