It crashed 8 times in the last day, doesn't seem to last longer than 5 or 10 minutes before crashing. It's happened on mutiple games both running from the CD and demos running from the hard drive.

Will be ringing Microsoft tomorrow, see how that goes.

Good luck with that. Id say they will say 'call supplier'. Tell them you have a brother who works in the Star and he said he would publish an article.

From what I've heard MS are very very good with this sort of thing. Fingers crossed. I have my receipt and everything just get the impression I'd be better off ringing Microsoft than having an argument in Game.

that would certainly explian there pricing policy :D €70 - €75 for a new 360 game and €60.00 for a pre-owned! that's bloody robbery when the RRP of xbox 360 games is €65.00.

Well MS customer support were really helpful, a new one should be arriving in 3-5 working days and they'll take my one away while their here.

The troubleshooting process over the phone was interesting. Discovered my console crashes during games and when playing audio cds but not when playing DVDs. Weird. I guess the trippy visualisations must work the processor harder than playing video or something.

If you bought them from I-tunes or similar, its most likely something to do with DRM?

The Xbox 360 cannot play music purchased from the iTunes Music Store as it uses Apple's DRM. Apple and MS don't like the share ;)

If you have imported music into iTunes and it's been converted into AAC/M4A then you must download a little add-on for the Xbox 360 to enable it to play the format. More details on this page...

Yes I believe it does, The "company" cannot set prices the "Staff" at some level somewhere set the price.

The international company is not fleecing people, I was in the UK at the start of january and the only "Game" store I was in was selling at the RRP, not 10-15% above it so I would suggest that you get a grip on reality and see the truth of the matter, which is Irish staff in Irish "Game" stores are setting there own pricing policy not based on the RRP of a comodity product but based on what they believe the general retail shopping public will pay. Just look at the differences in pricing for the same products in different Dublin stores!

To be perfectly honest I couldn't care less about the feelings of a staff member who is extorting people on a daily basis, I am entitled to my opinion and shame on you sir/madam for trying to defend there behaviour.

pricing is not decided instore - it is set regionaly - i know this for a fact so why make blanket statements about their staff - who have no say in this matter and who, in my experience, are for the most part very helpful - whyis it that the shop floor staff and even shop managers are blamed for somethung that they have absolutely no say in - these decisions are regional head office decisions - your wrong - end of story

    cmb. wrote:

So you work for "Game" then? and as you know "for a fact" how there pricing structures work your reasonably senior, I take it, possibly a store manager?
    cmb. wrote:

So, the pricing that "Game" stores just appears from "the mythical Regional office pricing beast" I take it? :D

No staff member within "Game" has any say in what pricing goes on the box on the shelf? I think not!

A Staff member somewhere sets the price and from what I have seen the way the pricing changes from branch to branch in the Dublin area for the same items, they are set independently in each store.
    cmb. wrote:

Why shouldn't the staff be responsible for there own actions? to say that I am wrong end of story seems to indicate that you are privy to the inner workings of this corporate entity, so your either staff or ex-staff inwhich case your opinion is biased in some way, if your not current or Ex-staff for "game" then there is no way you can be certain of the "Facts" you are spewing as I cannot be certain that there isn't a "mythical Regional office pricing beast" I can only go on the evidence that I see and form my opinion on that. Lets recap on some facts.

"Game" in Ireland charge between 10-15% over the RRP for X-box 360 games

"Game" stores in Dublin charge different prices for the same product in different branches. If prices were set regionally they would be the same in all branches in that region.

All I'm saying is look at the facts and base an opinion on them, oh and I don't believe in "the mythical Regional office pricing beast", staff set the prices, the end.

i am looking at the facts and basining my informed opinion on it- I KNOW THE FACTS - if you chose not to believe that individual stores are giving their retail prices for products, then fine - you chose to believe what you want - but lets be clear, you are stating no more than opinion, and uninformend opinion at that - but your whole arguement is based on opinion - staff - as in in-store staff do not set prices - yes a "staff member" makes these decisions - but this staff member works at regional level-not area level but regional - dont get me wrong - i would love game to be more competative with their pricing and i thing they went down hill seriously since the eb-game merger/buyout - but thats how it is - now i understand that one should not believe everything one reads on a web forum - so here is a solution -go into a game store and ask for yourself - and if any shop is charging over the rrp i urge everyone to ask/qeustion/register complaint and most importantly refuse to patronise that store/company - simple

So a staff member at regional level sets the instore price for a game in there Grafton street branch and then sets a different price for the same game in the liffey valley branch and another price for the same game in the Blanch store? sorry that just doesn't make sense!

Well, I'm glad we can agree on something! :D I do find it incredible that these guys can charge €70-€75 for games that have an RRP of €64.99! and whats worse people pay it! not me, no more, play.com and there ilk will get my cash, even if it does mean I have to wait a little while to get what I want, it's better than being bent over a counter and ****** in the ***

You should ask for it replaced, I found them really helpful and they offered a replacement no problem, will hopefully have it on Thursday! Mine is crashing with every game though not just specific ones.

Anyways... just so you know, prices in GAME are set at a regional level. In the stores, we don't have any control over the prices ourselves. And I'd appreciate you not insulting us.

fair enough, I stand corrected, but I'm amazed that a company of that size would go to all the work of generating individual pricelists for each store at regional level, what a pointless waste of time, surely it would make more sense to have a single pricelist for all the stores in the same region?

as for insulting you personally, I don't recal naming a specific person but by proxy, it's a fair cop. Seriouisly though, if your gonna work in retail, particularly for a large chain like "game" you gotta be fairly thick skinned. I used to work for a similar chain a long time ago and if ye can't take the crap get outta the toilet!

I did and I've moved on considerably from then to where I am now and I still have to live with "never trust a salesman" or "all Sales people are just con-artists in disguise" and other such sweeping generalisations, which have no truth in them, at least as far as I'm concerned ;)

The thing to do on any of the consoles/games boards right now seems to be for kiddies to rage against Game, even when the topic is nothing about them.

If your refering to me pointing out that they are overcharging and extorting the Irish public, then 2 things you need to know

    1) I ain't no kiddie, I owned pong before it was a collectable (i really wish I hadn't chucked it when it broke)

    2) if you think I'm just raging against Game you'd be right on this occasion however the same rage, I will happily direct to any of the other games retailers out there that are charging over the RRP for games, Xtravision & gamestop I know price some games over the RRP but my local xtravision branch at least has 2 titles at the rrp of €64.99 where as I haven't seen a 360 game at the RRP "Game" since the start of the year. In my experience Game are the worst offenders, but I'm not saying there the only ones ;)

I had this same problem, I rang MS and after about 15mins of crap, They told me to unplug cables and plug them in again.

    It worked :$

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,653 ✭✭✭steviec

*sigh* guess I was premature saying how helpful they were

The '3-5 working days' were up and I'd heard nothing so gave them a ring today.

Apparently they know nothing about sending me a new xbox. According to their system they're waiting for my current one to arrive in their repair centre so they can fix it and send it back. That is not what I was told!

So now I have to send it to them(and find a more protective box than the one I currently have it stuffed into if it's gonna be coming back to me) and wait about 2 weeks to see it again... I'm not too happy. If they'd told me this to begin with I would have lived with it but it's annoying after spending a week sitting around waiting for it to arrive.

    Thats a bummer man.....

    $cumbag$

Every launch is bound to have a few probs but thats taking the piss . . .

AFAIK they are entitled to the first repair, if that doesnt work then your entitled to a replacement, losing all your gamesaves in the process (which will prob happen when its sent off to be repaired)

Nah their taking the xbox not the hard drive.

I'm trying to work out how to package the thing. I don't have the original box and I want to be content that it's safe while being delivered.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 241 ✭✭antifyre

mine packed up yesterday, have to send the HDD with it (and lose the saves).....to be quite honest, if I get my box back, i'll be happy.

They could have told us to F' off.

The lads I was talking to on the phone knew what they were on about, were quick to explain what was going on, and answered my questions....

So I lose my saves, better than losing 400 yo-yos (although I won't buy first line consoles again!;) )

Xbox live saves a record of what you've bought, so even if you lose your arcade games, you can download again for free.
