I'll tell you what it has to do with shallowness. The lad wants to spend a few hundred quid on a fancy watch to impress some bimbo chick when he could just as easily spend the money on Self Improvement Courses which would enable him to bag a lady without flashing his fancy jewelerry. The lads all about the bling bling.

Im confused. This thread - Why?

Also, does pigman only do the 3rd person thing every second post?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 21,296 ✭✭✭✭gimmick

We were just talking about this at work yesterday. If its ascertained that a customer, who you only ever have phone contact, might be good looking, you will be alot nicer to her. Well, thats the case for us anyway. Also, when its assumed she is good looking, and you then find to the contray, you wont be as nice anymore.

    Now thats shallow :D !

BTW, why does pighead refer to himself in the third person???

Exactly what I was thinking ?? It's getting pretty annoying tbh.

Proud? You've gotta be joking me. Pighead feels nothing but shame for those 10 sham years of shallowness and ugly chick chasing activities. The Copper Face Jack Years are consigned to the dustbin of shame. Please don't judge Pighead Beruthial, I'm a much much better man now.

How can we be sure this is shallowness? Perhaps these people suffer in their souls, and due to the material nature of the society we live in, the only way they feel they can increase their personal happiness is by securing the goods and services that advertisers tell them they deserve. Perhaps its actually a cry for help put in a modern materialistic way. Money = Happiness, therefore, if there is an innate unhappiness in your soul, you may think that heaps of jewellery/fast cars/big bank balance will make up for this.

Is it shallow to assume somebody else is shallow without ever actually knowing the person, their circumstances, their lives and their level of happiness?

    Just a thought.

Well if the person is conforming to the "materialistic nature of the society we live in" then once again that can be deemed as shallow. A cry for help it may be but its a shallow cry all the same.
    Are you shallow Archeron?

Maybe because its not the topic of the thread and discussing it would be dragging the thread drastically off topic?

If conforming to materialistic society makes me shallow, then in a way, yes I am. I have a car, i like my car, i like my material goods. However, its not the most important thing in my life, so in that regards, no I'm not. A matter of perspective really!

i dont understand why these things are always presented as some osrt of trade off.

i have a lovely partner who is beautiful, funny and yet lacks nothing whatsoever inthe brains department.

perhaps if you are happy with an either-or situation, you get what you deserve, but for me, im happy to be picky and get it all.

I'm fairly shallow... In a girlfriend, my preferences would probably break down as 50:50, looks:personality

    I know :(

How are any of us supposed to know anything? By gathering knowledge through experience, instruction, and asking questions. What you can always know is that if you are in doubt, assumptions can be just as wrong as right. He could have asked someone why there was an exclamation mark there, and what it signified; but to simply ignore something because one doesn't know it's meaning, is foolish.

Actually I think most people's perception of it is that it looks like it means equals. Why should you doubt what looks patently obvious, especially when it's such a minor thing.

It's patently obvious, and a well known fact among many many people, that an exclamation mark preceding an equals means not equal. The difference between '=' and '!=' is not a minor thing. They are the exact opposite of each other. I also doubt that 'most people' would perceive != to mean the same as =.

    LOLed at 'nonce' too :D

Ditto wwdude. They ain't mutually exclusive. Its the same with my female.

And anyone who doesn't know that != mean not equal to is obviously not a programmer/general all round geek.

Also Pighead, stop mixing you refering to yourself int he 3rd person and then the 1st person int he one post.

So.... I must of bumped into the wrong thread. before hand I thought it was a unusual thread....... now that I read through it all, Its just sh!te. there's nothing for anyone to really chat much about??? me thinks . If your ugly your ugly if your good looking your goodlooking that's it, so what....

People can be shallow for all sorts of reason. If someone keeps telling himeself/herself and to the nation that your it. it will get a bit desparate,

what should i do to avoid it:eek:

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,130 ✭✭✭✭Kiera

Buying stuff you like doesn’t make you shallow. If a guy was to go out with you just for your nice car and pretty clothes then that would make HIM shallow.
