BMI measurement

    BMI calculations are common enough these days. While the idea behind the show is welcome I wonder how this calculator is done.

    I need to lose nearly 25 kg rather than the 10-12kg that would do the trick !! Even allowing for some level of muscularity it is pretty misleading.

    not exactly sure the exact calculation but I think its height in mm divided by weight in kg

    BMI = [Weight in kg/(height in metres)(height in metres)]

    so its a ration of body weight to height. It doesn't take into account people who are very athletic or those who have a higher muscle ration than average. It's a useful tool to use for the general pyblic but certainly not hte be-all and end all. A more helpful measurement is your body fat percentage (calculated using calipers at a gym) or the hip to waist ratio. Waist Hip Ratio is calculated by dividing your waist measurement by your hip measurement. men should have a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.95 or less. women should have a waist-to-hip ratio of 0.8 or less. carrying excess weight around teh waist is more conducive to developing heart disease or diabetes.
